See, the thing is I feel bad for YM actually. From what I gather of him since I started posting here, he plays the game on his own terms as best as he can. And he does so knowing that the general population of the game will ridicule him, undermine his views of the game, and question his intelligence. Me? Guilty as charged. There have been many times I dismiss him because he can't speak from a high level perspective. My impression is that he is just becoming overwhelmingly aware of this. Maybe there was a time long ago I realized the game wasn't what I thought it was and too considered quitting at the time?

So now that YM has gotten to this point (long as it took him to take to get here), what does he need to continue enjoying this game? I think he should start thinking about he can make compromises that make him more palatable to popular opinion. I'm actually disappointed that he would view a subjob and a new and incredibly potent WS as a crux to his ability to play the way he wants when, if anything, the potential for closing the gap somewhat is now there for the taking, if only he will work to get it.

All I did first was see something that I felt was false, and did not want it to be the only testimony out there. And in kind, I get a paragraph about how spoiled RDMs want to nuke as well as BLMs, RDMs want to heal as well as WHMs, RDMs want to hack & slash as well as SAMs. None of which I have ever actually said. On Dreams in Vana'diel. Or anywhere else for that matter. I did, however, follow up with a comment that I don't actually believe you can be a good RDM if you don't have nuking gear and healing gear. Now, if that makes me confused about the job...

Get Paladin to level 50. Get Red Mage to level "a lot" (in practice, probably about 75, when I will be able to start on Merits and Magians). Complete myriad quests and missions along the way.

And then . . .

I think that I will be at the point where this comes to the forefront of my mind. At the very least, I was already planning on evaluating all available weapon options at that point to decide which was the most worth working on. Knowing what I know now about Dual Wield being basically strictly superior to whatever else I could try to do kind of throws a monkey wrench in to things, though, as you can imagine. =/

Ketaru: I have nothing against Chant du Cygne itself; if it ends up being such a dramatic dealbreaker, I'll work on upgrading a Badelaire like you. It's just the Almace that disgusts me so much.
