Freaking Maat. Fought him with my whole group over the weekend at ~ 67.

Pld ran out of time. Not actual time, but after tanking him fit so long he just started asuran fist spam. Lived through 4 though.

Whm, repose wouldn't stick more than once. Guess I need more divine skillups, though skill was at near 200.

RDM had some bad luck. Should've just chugged VE instead of converting.

SAM walked in wondering if Konzen-ittai > tachi gekko > darkness would make him give up. Turned out no, as he summarily meikyo shisui'd and combo>spinning fisted me for 700 on the combo and then death.

BLM got off a flare, he started a thundaga ii. I ran out of range, ran back just in time for him to finish a waterga iii on me that i didn't see for being too far away.

BLU is just a crap shoot that depends on what the guy decides to smack you with.

Farming up a new set of testimonies and I guess I'll wait until 70 to try again.

PLDs need an offensive approach for Maat. He'll wear you down first otherwise, and I hear he starts to go berserk around the 10 minute mark anyways. Rules of thumb:
* You will not miss him
* He will not miss you
* Stocking up on Defense won't stop him from hitting like a truck
* He's not hard to damage
So, the answer is to pile on a lot of Attack gear (e.g. Haubergeon/Byrnie), use a high DPS weapon (Joyeuse will be a HUGE help,) eat meat food. Run right in and start fucking him up, spam Vorpal Blade and pop Hi-potions as needed and it'll work out fine.

Tip: If you're running, mobs can't use melee-range TP move. That's because they always trail you at maximum melee range, so during that half a second "readying" phase of the TP move you'll run out of range. This is universal, it'll work on any mob with close-range moves, from Foot Kick to Sickle Slash.

Here's the thing: if you go into first person mode and remove target lock, you can actually run backwards at full speed *while facing the mob.* That means you can shield/parry/guard and keep attacking, but any time he attempts a close-range TP move it'll fail. So you can just keep running backwards in a large circle around the arena and stay safe. (This is hilarious to do against Shadows because Dimensional Death is their only TP move and it'll always whiff. It's also good against Bombs and Dolls because you can run out of the range of self-destruct and they'll kill themselves in vain.) This can work on other Maat fights but it doesn't work out as well since he'll stop to cast spells.

Also I was under the impression that you can just Meikyo Shisui for a quick victory. Preferably do a long skillchain ending in Lv.3 instead of just doing Lv.3 three times. That racks up more damage.

Finished my first EVA Sekka. I hate how you put in all of this work and the weapons look completely uninteresting.

Yes... I completely agree. I really think this is stupid and it's one of the main reasons I have a difficult time motivating myself to do trials. Hell, in Fable III I collected and level'd crap weapons just to see how they'd turn out. I really wish SE would make the non Emp. Weapons look better. Tired of having a Bone Knife w/ exceptional stats.

They could also make the Shamshir look like a shamshir instead of a western longsword, ffs. They could have at least used a scimitar model and come close. All the jobs that can equip magian blades can equip scimitars.

That's basically how I feel about every H2H weapon in the game. Except Katars, but SE barely put any of those in the game.
