I got my friend to come help me farm Tonberries for Abyssite in Kon[tab] tonight. I'm fairly certain killspeed went down after he showed up. I certainly wasn't nuking as much since I had to keep his squishy THF ass alive. He had trouble pulling hate off me and I ended up dying twice for it. It's not that I mind the exp loss, but I wasn't dying before he showed up...

ARGH!
Squishy DD type people are the ball and chain that keeps me from being all "WOOSH I AM THE MAGE FEARMENOW!"

I am unable to solo doors in Quicksand caves. Now I have to haul someone down here just to get it open to go visit the Chamber of Oracles.

This is why it was nice when I had access to my ex-husband's account. Not only was he a free PL (for extreme low levels, since he was DRK/WHM lol) but also a teleport bitch, a raise bitch, and a "stand on that damn thingy" bitch.

Actually that brings up that I'm bored of Abyssea these days. I want to help people with missions and stuff. And I have been, when I can.

But what I really want is Assault fights. Someone was in PJ Friday shouting for a CS rank fight (I'm only C, which is three ranks lower, but mostly due to a Nyzul climb, so I have a lot that I've never done). Then he changed to a 3-rank range of CS to CS+2. By late Sunday he was actually 2/3 for that. So that brings up my new peeve, which is that nobody will do content unless there is uber (or perceived uber) gear at the end of it. You can't take any time to do fun stuff because NO FUN ALLOWED, no doing anything else until you've finished grinding the most uber gear possible! Then go out and grind more gear!

Hence all the screwed up shouts (we're 3/4, need DD job X that everyone else needs and have seals left for unpopular job Y, etc. for half an hour) The only reason it's even sort of possible to get Nyzul climb groups together is because of the weaponskills at the end. And hence WG turning into a ghost town in the past couple of months (the JPs hung on for a while, but now it's dead.) People will still do Dynamis (because of OCD to complete sets, even when the gear is lame) and even Limbus, but at least there's only what, ten Dynamis zones, as opposed to fifty Assaults? And it's got better operant conditioning because gear drops during the whole run.

I wanna do Assaults, dammit, because they're generally fun missions. Nobody else wants to do them because there's (essentially) no gear behind them. Oh and hey, SE, isn't it right that nobody can build a Mythic weapon without having finished them all? (among half a dozen now impossible things that nobody else wants to do) All fifty of them? Of which you can only do one per day on average, or realistically 3-4 one day per week in a static? But even back in the day, people still only spammed their favorites which were the easy ones that gave them the particular points they needed for the uber gear they wanted, so it's not like it's only recently broken.

I think the only way to fix this is to put ToAU-related conditions on some new magian trials. After all, look at what the "turn in ten fairy bottles" trial did. If there were trials that required you to finish an entire rank of Assaults, guess what people would start doing? (Same with Nyzul floors, but let's not get started on that whole shared ID tag bag o' fail.) And it might even get people the fuck out of PJ for a while.


And another peeve. I was about to solo my MNK/WHM (yes, I don't have /WAR or /DNC yet, I was leveling it because skills were already capped) out in Rolanberry just to level and farm silk thread, when two others in the LS wanted to do some sync. So we started to trio, but one had to suddenly bail. Remaining guy wants to do some Qufim. Okay, that's fine, and then he suddenly got a full party, which is still okay. I did notice that nobody was a healer main job, though I did check and /PUP only gets Cure II for Soulsoother at 28, so that was out of the question. We started at 21, but once we hit 22, I rocked that /WHM with FoV Refresh for all it was worth.

An hour or two later and he has to go, gets a replacement. We still don't have any healer main. Then replacement starts saying "why don't you go /WAR" "because I don't have it" "well you should get it blah blah" "yeah I know", etc.

I probably should have pointed out that sure it's a great subjob for MNK when there's a freaking main heal in the party. Others going /DNC (especially at Qufim level) do not constitute a main heal. He also said "yeah you should /WAR when doing level 10-20 stuff", to which I should have pointed out we started at 21 and were already in the mid 20s. (Yeah, /WHM sucks before 22 because Cure 1 is so weak, and having to cast three times as often will really affect your damage output.)

Anyhow, once we finished the page it fell apart from not enough people wanting to stick around, which was also fine, because except for replacement guy, the rest of us had been there the whole time.

But I was kind of annoyed that someone was "derp MNK should always sub WAR!" when there was no main heal in the party. So yeah, if you're going to ride the bandwagons, we shouldn't even go out there until we get a main healer. Sorry, charlie, but "everyone subs something with healing" is also a viable form of party, it just doesn't work well when not enough people sub healing.

Cure 1 may be weak but it's not like /WAR offers anything before 20 other than Provoke. 10-20 I'll take all my DDs /WHM over /WAR any day of the week, especially post-FoV. Even post-20 I'd accept /WHM since /WAR just offers 10 extra Defense (and /WHM offers Magic Defense Bonus anyways, which is going to be more useful if the tank holds hate,) though if you have /RNG or /DRK or /DRG or /NIN that's potentially better.

The lack of research some people do makes my head spin.

Here are 2 examples that happened over the weekend

Player A: “Hey Rom, can you help me with a couple XZY body seals?”
Rom: “sure, what job do you need, I got Bst, Pup, Smn’
Rom: “I also have a lolwhm and lolblm…but I’m not that great on those jobs”?
Player A: “Not sure, do you know what drops the seals?”

(While fighting a NM)
Rom: “Use an elemental WS to get a proc hint for red”
Player B: “I don’t need any of the seals, I just want the KI”
Rom: “Use an elemental WS to get a proc hint for red”

i cut them slack becasue they are really nice guys...but geez, look something up once in a while.

I do enjoy helping others. I do. I like seeing people happy. What I don’t like is someone asking for help and them expecting me to set everything up.

They're usually the same people I used to see a month later in full Salvage gear while I used to struggle to find/build an EU Salvage shell.

/nin isn't effective until lvl 24 anyways. I would prefer there be some one /war pre lvl 20, maybe even to lvl 27 if they are any good at tanking. /Drk isn't that great, and /drg doesn't offer anything much anyways. Sure, jump is nice free TP, but /Rng is better if your job has a decent RACC, and can use Crossbows. Drk/Rng in low levels is pretty good, and even better after they get the accuracy bonus from Ranger.
