And I'll be damned if it isn't a haven for the most disgusting demographic of people inhabiting the FFXI community.

Granted I will laugh at some things - honestly, I can't help it - but I always feel bad afterwards, then reiterate that I'm well aware that I'll be heading to the fiery depths when I've drawn my last breath, do not pass GO, do not collect $200. That said, the fact that people are actually angry about the game being down for this reason is actually disgusting to me. Yep, AF3 is suuuuuuuuper important.

The only justification for bitching would be if SE was going to expect everyone to pay for the time the service was not available. They said right away that April fees are off the table, so no one has any right to bitch at all.

Suck it up and go outside.

I honestly wouldn't be able to resist the temptation to go all apeshit on these people. I'd probably last less than a day there. And whether I bought my own account to use or borrowed someone else's, the fact of the matter is, it's not worth it for just one day of fun. So I'm content to lurk and make fun of them on BG instead.

The people in Jeuno who started shouting about how inconvenient this was the moment the announcement came which was just around prime-time Japan. Even the ones that were more concerned about their god-damn stones accruing... Some people are just amazingly out of touch, classless, and fucking addicted.

I post this as a warning of decency... to anyone out there thinking of posting anything along the lines of:

"My peeve is that the servers are down for a week".

Remember that the only reason they are down is so that power can be supplied to those people in Japan who are without it. SE is doing the right thing and we should support their decision. Take this time to re-evaluate your priorities... and remember... the RMTs have it WAYYYYY worse than you.

When I tried to log on this morning and couldn't, I actually suspected something along these lines. I'm disappointed I had to find out from Allakhazam though and that it isn't even mentioned on the main POL site.

I've already had to delete people from facebook and other things due to the completely retarded comments they're making on the entire situation. I looked at the official forums as well, and I think it was a mistake even making them. It's sad how low people stoop when they're over the internet.

I've taken a brief skim through of the main forums and the content that goes on there frightened me away from those places. Actually, safe to say this is about the only FFXI forum I post at these days because people are actually sane here. Sorry to say that too, since it seems like it's mostly non-FFXI players that post here too.

In general, "addiction" is a word poorly stamped onto gamers, since it compares gamers to people addicted to alcohol or drugs. Those things actually change the bodies of people who use them too much and stops them from normally functioning if they are denied these things. People don't suddenly stop being able to think of they are away from games for a while.

....at least, that's what I think is the usual case. Sometimes, this is cast in doubt. Apparently, some people lose brain function when they are deprived of FFXI.

It's not prominent, but it IS on the POL site: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/pol...ews20541.shtml; on the main site it would be at the bottom, under the information section. It also has said the servers are down for maintenance for the last 2-3 days if you look at the server status in the top right corner.

It's also on pretty much every FFXI- and FFXIV-related forum, so it's not all that difficult to miss.

The announcement is right where all of their information is regarding maintenance, outages, etc. Seriously, people need to take more than 5 seconds to actually look for information, instead of complaining that "it's not on SE's website" when it clearly is.

New peeve: Everyone and their pet platypus getting all self righteous on every forum every time someone complains about the FFXI servers being down. It's seriously getting old.

Yes the earthquake was a horrible tragedy and we should all feel bad for the people trapped under several tons of concrete and twisted metal. However, that does not mean I don't get to still be disgruntled about an abrupt halt to a continuous service that I pay for and expect. No, shut up about the waived fees for April. It doesn't work like that. Service is supposed to be provided on a continual basis not a "whenever is convenient and don't worry because you just don't have to pay for it when we don't feel like providing it". SE is a gaming industry behemoth and I pay them fees because I expect services to be rendered regularly and professionally.

I have absolutely no sympathy for big companies. I am perfectly content to complain about their lapse in services even in the face of extreme circumstances. There is no shame in it, and I wish people would stop pretending it's some sort of horrendous offense.

I reserve my sympathies and good will for people trapped under rubble, not for corporations who can't put together contingency plans.

Either you are aiming for the "Troll of the year" award or you really honestly need to stop being a spoiled kid about things like this.



Hint: In the real world continuous service is a luxury, and requires many, many things to be working properly to be attained. Try getting a job sometime so you can see just how difficult things are even without being in an emergency state.
