I guess I was imagining it happening. I guess I didn't go from 85-90 and 20 merits in a Mandies party. I guess everyone editing the wiki imagined it. I guess there isn't another way to get ruby lights.

    Oh wait -

But, ya. Thanks for mistaking your misinformation and apparent tendency to be in crappy parties for knowing whats going on.

Thing is, on mandies red boxes are a catch-22: You need to get ruby light from red boxes, which you get from having ruby light. You can certainly get ruby from other sources very quickly (just a few ephs will cap you), but in the meantime you could get so MUCH ruby that the more essential azure and TE boxes don't pop (or take a long time to pop), or if you decide to do them in the middle of the run instead of at the beginning you run the risk of loosing whatever chain you have built up on mandies by switching families, which is more likely to happen in lower end parties he is describing.

I don't think anyone will argue that mandies don't have the potential to be great, and can be great if you have a terrific alliance. However, you must accept that there are many FAR BETTER options out there now.

You didn't notice that I said where the red boxes come from? Getting ruby lights. And as KoZ said, if you try to get them first, you screw up your azure and pearl. If you try to get them later, you screw up your chain.

Yet people still go there. Which is why I was posting in the peeve thread.

So now I've got one that's sure to get at least one or two of you raging.

Apparently some folks in my LS were in a seals party. 3/6 people were kicked from that seals party for... not having the Shinryu atma.

Let's review quickly what that atma is:
Drops from Shinryu Atma of the Apocalypse "Triple Attack"+: Superior (15%) Quick Magic (10%)" Auto-Reraise (Reraise III)"
Sounds like someone is asspained that their old forms of elitism no longer work. Or maybe he simply got all the seals that he wanted, and had to come up with a stupid excuse for bumping people. Not that I can figure out how he could know what atma someone has, anyhow.

          That's just sad.

But, on the other hand, I found one of the BEST uses for that atma. We were killing Sippoy and got it down to 1% when we all wiped. The tank (a DNC, and don't criticize, they do it very well) had that set as one of their 3 atmas. In order to keep it from regening up to 100%, they would just keep accepting the raise. One-shot fall, reraise, one-shot fall, reraise, etc. After one raise, somehow, they managed to evade, put up shadows and kill it.

Brings a whole new meaning to the term zombie tactics.

There you go again mistaking misinformation for knowledge and a shitty party for the way things are done.

Red chests do not ONLY come from ruby lights, they are always a chance drop. Ruby Lights INCREASE the chance and quality.

I will write this down so even a kindergarten student could understand -

              We go Abyssea - Tahrongi
              We kill mandies
              We no kill other mob

With all else equal, it takes (far) longer to get to 600 exp/kill that way. If using vision zones, might as well go to Abyssea - La Theine and target Crapaudy, which gives all lights and has no TP moves. They do link--but that's actually a plus for Lv.85+ parties since they die pretty fast.

Unless you're trying to mix in key item farming from gold boxes, Tahrongi is kinda sucky for exp'ing with melee based alliance. Even if you are trying to KI farm, Pachypodium (Mandragora/Lycopodium) there also don't give Amber lights, making gold box farming slower.

Yeah, Pachypodium can work, and aren't too dangerous, but Crapaudy (La Theine) works better for not much more risk. Heck, even Shadow Lizard (Konschtat) with its Baleful Gaze is a better deal, IMO.

                yet not a mote of dust is stirred;

I'm quite sure that was happening in WoW too yesterday, but I wasn't feeling well so I didn't log in at all. But judging by the asshats that were bickering over Prop 19 a few months ago, I'd say it's a safe bet Trade channel was blowing up with retardation.

I got kicked from a Jungle party the other night when the leader had to zone something and tossed leader to someone else. Perhaps I should be more specific, they tossed it to the rank 2 SAM who had flat out told us he didn't know anything about mageing it up.

Suddenly I find myself not in the party. My LS-mate who was also in the party informed me, as did the original party leader, that someone had been complaining that I was leeching.

That's a laugh. A really deep full bodied laugh like the kind a large jolly fat man gives after hearing the most brilliant joke ever.

I'm on Scholar, my LS-mate is on WHM. I'm applying enfeebles, regening, curing and nuking all without taking hate, which would have been easy to do if I had just chain-nuked. Yeah...me leeching on a mage job? No chance in hell. I work my ass off when I play mage jobs. If I wanted to leech I'd play a frontline DD and hit auto-attack and WS all night long.

So yeah, I got kicked by some idiot melee player and then left along with my shellmate. Real smart play guys, piss off the two people in the party who can heal you. Word is the rest of the party stuck up for me and said that no, I wasn't leeching, but you know what? Fuck partying with someone who'll boot a hard-working mage. They can eat shit.

It all ended well though. My shellmate rebuilt us into a proper party and we went off to stomp all over Behemoth's Domain and I ended the night right at 37, perfect for setting up an East Ronfaure (S) party later this week.

                      • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

People setting up xyz runs that really don’t know what their doing.

First off, I’ll give them kudos for attempting to set up. But for the love of god please do SOME research if your that’s your plan…I mean, have a good idea on what’s needed but just never built one. I know that you need a tank and maybe a back up tank. I know that you need a healer or 2. I know that you need a couple different melee jobs that have the correct WS and I know you need some mage jobs for enfeebling/nuking/stunning…etc. I may not be the best leader but I do try and help as much as possible.

So this guy shouted for a Boss run where 3 KIs were needed. He had 1/3. We got to 17/18 people. Most asking what job. He basically said come as whatever you want and we’ll rearrange parties once everyone’s ready. This took maybe 20 minutes.

We’ll needless to say we had a bunch of mages and not enough jobs to Proc red !!. On top of that…no one had a tank job. So we spent the next 45-60 minutes (at 17/18 mind you) shouting for a Nin. Yeah…took that long. Apparently all the NINs had this boss already.

FINALLY we find one. Leader then asks the group what the procs WS are and do have all the jobs/weapons to cover? In a nut shell he was say “I got 18 people, you figure out the rest”. So tack on another 20 minutes of the group working out WS oppose to the leader assigning. About 3 people get annoyed with his stupidity and the amount of time already wasted and drop. So another 15 minutes goes by and were full again and by the grace of god most (if not all) have of the WSs covered.

So zone to the the area but not in abyssea. He wants to reform parties. Tells EVERYONE to drop except leaders. Like the good leader that he is…he forgets half the people who were in the alliance. So tack on another 20-30 minutes…eventually we enter. It’s been upwards of 2 hours for me at this point.

We purchased one of the pop items and killed the NM right away for the 2nd KI item. 3rd KI item was from a 15m timer NM. Well…after multiple attempts of him failing at pulling and the 2 attempts where we actually killed the NM and he die (resulting in no KI) we decided to call it after almost 2 hours in abyssea.

Killing 3 NMs should not take 3-4 hours. I’ve done full VV atma runs in much less time ><.

Next day joined another shout from a different leader. Almost the SAME EXACT situation. Same boss, 1/3 KIs…etc. But this time the leader knew what he was doing and the whole run took less than 1.5 hours. And most of that time was the preparing.

I'll admit I'm guilty of that. On Saturday I decided to throw a party together to get my final Caturae (Kuth). I had a dancer in my shell who was willing to tank it if I got more people to help out, since speed does kind of matter for this case.

One shout and I was at 6 before I knew what happened. One more shout and I had another party and a half. I probably could have handled it if we went for what I was thinking originally... basically get everyone on a DD type job, throw in a few mages (of which I would be one) and voila. Then people started asking about getting atma procs. Oh fun. I have had no experience setting up anything like that. I had wiki up so I could attempted to coordinate it, but ultimately it was because two other people (including the tank from my shell) helped me out that we were able to get most if not all the possible proc skills.

The only real sad thing from the whole thing, our group decided to go on an outright Caturae run (all but Rani and Raja), but we weren't able to get the one the other person who helped out his last one. I really do wish we could have gotten it for him, but I think camping for Sippoy took up most of the time people had.

Um, yeah, that's kind of exactly why I don't try to set up those Mega Boss runs, because I barely understand the procing.

But I've got another peeve about these big boss runs.

If you (or your buddies) are low on stones and you want to form a {mega boss} alliance, what do you do?

                            1) stop whoring yourself into seals parties with 3 stones left and save up a few stones
                            2) get some more celerity and sojourn abyssites
                            3) join a TE party
                            4) make the pick-up alliance farm TEs in addition to the boss pop items.

If your answer was 4, you must have been leading the {mega boss} alliance I was just in! And as I was the only BLM, I had the honor of being told to go out and find some ephemerals. Um, yeah, I haven't played BLM much in months until this past week, and I only dusted it off the other day as my fifth of five jobs to get to 90. So I'm kind of rusty on sleep-nuke soloing. At least there was also a RDM who had more clue than me about this, and who was also assigned to do it. Oh, and I have over 370 stones, and the RDM had over 400.

(Yep, it's still once you go black, nobody else will ever let you go back.)

But I went and at least made an attempt at it because it was my ninth of nine, and we got the win and a pretty decent DD atma. And maybe 20K xp to get me to 1K tnl. I was amused that the NM was at 50% by the time all the procing was done... I haven't seen one get that low just from procing and was almost sure I had missed the call to finish him off. (And lol he's forming another run now.)

So zone to the the area but not in abyssea. He wants to reform parties. Tells EVERYONE to drop except leaders. /facepalm

Geez. I was in one yesterday, we were trying to farm KI and failed to kill Sedna once, then the guy who started it apparently ran out of RL time and had to go. I went back to Jeuno to change jobs, noticed we had room for 6 more, shouted, got almost spammed with tells (!) when I wasn't leader and was in a 5/6 pt (another was 1/6). But I managed to wrangle almost everyone in and we got the win. And I got a feel for what it's like on the other side of the tells.

It’s all explained on the wiki page so look there for deeper info but I’ll give you a brief idea.

It’s pretty easy. When you proc, you’ll see either a yellow, Red or blue !! over the mob and the chat log will say you staggered it. Every NM in abyssea has 3 weaknesses (completely random every time). It will have an elemental WS weakness, a magic spell weakness and a WS weakness

Procing Red (hitting the elemental WS weakness) increases the chances (to extremely high) of getting the Abysitte, Atma and Key Item (if the mob drops them).
There are only 13 (I believe) elemental WSs that will work but it’s over a bunch of weapons. Again, wiki has the list of WS. You basically cycle through them until you proc. Then finish off then NM (unless you wanna proc other colors).

Procing yellow (hitting the spell weakness) increase the seal drop rate and I think possibly synth materials
Yellow is proced with either a Blm/Whm/Blu/Nin or Brd spell. The spell element depends on the day’s element, the day before and the day after. So if its firesday, a fire, dark or earth spell is what will proc. A Blm is able to cover most of the spells. Wiki has the list.

Procing blue (hitting the WS weakness) increase gear drop rates
This is the tricky on in my opinion. The day is split up between 3 different time zones. I don’t remember the exact time frames but it all depends on when you POP or CLAIM the NM. 1 time frame will be 1 if 15 slashing WS, another timeframe its 1 of 15 Blunt ws and the last time frame is 1 of 15 pierecing WS. Again, just type ‘abyssea’ on wiki and scroll down. It’s on there

Just a few things to note
You CANNOT proc when the NM is casting or doing a TP move. Must be just regular attacking
not 100% sure, but I don’t think you can proc if the NM is stunned
Procing the same !! more than once will either decrease drop chances or maybe even cancel them out. So proc desired color ONCE.
