Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?
Not so much a pet peeve of Final Fantasy XI so much as it is a certain detractor of the game.
I enjoyed Final Fantasy XII and thought I'd go around seeing what kind of opinions people have of it. What I walk away with is what funny, curious people Final Fantasy fans are. They're like a religion all on their own, verging on the conservative side.
They see Nobuo Uematsu composing the music for XIV and act as if it's some great return to tradition. He's the God, the Alpha, and the Omega, the supreme composer of video game music. To hell with that X, XI, XII, and XIII crap where where they let go of the simplistic, whistle-friendly, pop sensible stuff.
They have asinine opinions like "FFXI was the worst game in the series because I hate online games" (pretty much verbatim). Never mind that, with Final Fantasy XI being an online game, and giving Final Fantasy XII MMO flair to it, they created what I just call short of living, breathing, dynamic worlds complete with histories that go beyond the scope of the main characters.
I won't say I would enjoy Final Fantasy XIII; it looks too silly to me. But the way some people think the series made disastrous, practically immoral, departures from "traditions" post IX is the funniest thing I've ever heard and I can't wait to see what SquareEnix does to stick it to 'em next.
Hint: Despite the fact people hold some of the older games as Paragons of Final Fantasy Excellence, there actually are people who dislike key components of the games people hold so dear. They decry that X and XII allow for too much character customizing. But they neglect to mention is was VII that started this. They whine about how the series is becoming too sequel/franchise oriented. But once again, VII: guilty.
