The fact that even though you know you're <insert weapon of choice> skill is 10 levels below normal due to Level Sync parties, when you are asked, "Level Since East Ron (s), do you need it?" you just can't say no...

Finally hit level 54 on drg and got a party in Waj. Woodlands where they were going to level sync to me. Penta thrust gets acquired at level 49 with capped skill at 150. I was level 54 and had a skill of 130... /cry

By the end of the party, I had a skill of 160. It's getting there...

Did you two confuse Corsair with Red Mage?

A few weeks ago I put up the seek flag on RDM to get some of the rust out of my RDM healer game. Four nights of seeking without invite while waiting in front of the fountain in my finest armor as a RDM/WHM was the result. Finally had to cobble together a sub-merit party with LS members (not all Lv.75) and a pickup THF to practice.

And, don't dismiss RDM in merit party as some of bum; there's work enough there to keep quite busy in most groups. In fact, in a good merit party, there's not a single "not-busy" person.

Four nights? Try going two months without invite and constantly being excluded from Dyna because you can't get a buffer and you will start to see what it is like to play a White Mage at endgame.

And if you think Corsair is a bum in a party then you have clearly never played the job. Most parties expect the COR to handle all the pulls and sleeps, keep up 4 rolls and shoot and belive me trying to keep up with the demands of a party on a COR will wear you out.

If you said Bards on the other hand...I would have agreed with you there . Play 2 of 4 songs, get the tank (or whoever keeps pulling hate in a merit party) almost perma-slowed and ignore the healer until people start dying and the party reps the healer and the process starts over again. Bards could also turn up to a party nude and without instruments and nobody will care (I've had that happen before and the Bard tried to get me kicked from the group because of it). Life is easy for Bards.

If anybody actually leveled Corsair, then maybe.

There kinda has to be, you know, a band on the wagon for it to be a bandwagon.

If you wanted an explanation for your lack of invites, I could only assume either bad luck, or maybe that the supply of Haste/Refresh monkeys on your server has finally caught up to the demand.

I must be doing something right because I fucking hate all the other mages I party with.

Red Mages who don't put on a full set of enfeebles.
White Mages who don't use regen.
White Mages who decide it's a good idea to stand inside of AoE sleep radius for the entire party, despite the fact that the Black Mage(me in this case) manages to dodge it and has to wake them up every time.
White Mages who don't use barspells.
White Mages who don't use Curaga at all.
White Mages who draw enough aggro to get goblin bombs in the face.

Having idiot mages in the Linkshell and not being able to call them out on it because I don't want to be a dick and start a bunch of drama.

If you want a job done right you gotta do it yourself.

"Full set" is slightly dependent on level - as in, it's likely just a waste of time to cast Poison at most levels before Poison II, and always a waste of time to cast Blind on dark-oriented mobs (bats or undead, if you happen to take aggro).

But if the people you're talking about are trying to pull crap like, say, neglecting Slow, Paralyze, Dia, you know, crucial crap like that, then yeah, screw those guys.

You need to level Bard and find out for yourself; I've probably gotten at least one million limit points using Bard, and 'easy' is about wrong of a word as you can pick.

Since three out of my last five pickup merit parties had a COR in them each, I claim they exist. (The forth had double BRD.)

All I assume is that you probably don't have first hand knowledge of what RDM's role is like in merit parties, because you're likely not Lv.75 yet. Since you have loudly protested that RDM shouldn't be main healers and such multiple times in the past, I'd further assume there's a chance you may never find out--but will keep complaining about it.

A "full set" of enfeebles also depends on the people in your party and if the stupid mob spams stuff you need to dispel or negate too often.

Now that I"m on Imps there are times I have an idiot tank and hate isn't being held so sometimes I'm barely keeping the entire party in yellow while, about every 5 fights it seems, I'm in a Silence/Silena dual with the Imp. I'm not kidding they Silence, I silena the mages, it Silences again etc. I'm happy on these guys if I can get 1 enfeeble on them and I'm still not sure which I should choose over the other enfeebles then. I generally do slow> Paralyze>Dia.

That is just plain sad. Almost as sad as the time I was in a party on DRG with a RDM that insisted that the proper way to fight "at this level" was that no one touch the mob when it was brought in so she could sleep it. In her addled mind you could only debuff a mob when it was asleep...

What happened to bringing echo drops and standing outside AoE range? When I use to play BLM (granted it was before CoP) and everyone knew we were going to fight mobs who cast silence. It was expect that a casting job would have a least a stack and knew where to stand. If the job was tanking they would let the support remove it but had a stack on them in cause of emergancies. I still always have a stack on me at all times among other meds.

Imp is a great test to see if the DRK in your party is a mindless brute who just likes to hurt things or a finesse player who eschews Hasso for the sake of recast timer, and watches the Imp's every motion, ready to pounce on the Tantara moves. (Yes, those are stunnable.)

                        Same for BLMs.

On Ifrit, at least, most back line job players learned that Imp's AoE range is relatively small and fairly easy to stay outside of. Every JP tank and Bard I've had on Imps had brought what seemed like limitless supply of echo drops with them, too. (Was funny when I was in competition with them on SCH to see if I can land Silena before they use Echo Drops.) NA was less even, but most tanks had echo drops as well.

I craft my own Echo Drops since getting the honey isn't exactly hard to do and you only need a couple of stacks on WHM. Auspice, Cura, Curaga and Barspells will mean that you will end up getting silenced at some point when fighting Imps. I'd assume that SCHs would take them anyway since I'm not sure on Accession's range

Mini-spansion BS regression. Having to redo the mission prior for a loss sux. Yeah yeah... It's relatively easy... but not painless. Trouncing around Beaucedine, Xarc, and Castle V is not my idea of fun (Dyna has disenchanted those zones for me). Just hope that damn Shadow Dragon's bigger bro is up for a fight to make things a lil interesting.

Had the {Final}{Fight} for MKD last night. Somehow my Sam got hate above the staircase and "drawn in". We have no idea how... it may have been Warcry but that is only a guess. I had just used a RR earring as well... maybe that's it. Total conjecture. Had I not been stunned w/ 43HP by the {Mega Boss} I might have actually survived that wierdness and we'd proly gotten the win... but that didn't happen. This... after hours of shouting in WG for a BLM or SCH to fill in our 5/6 while waiting for 2 to finish the mission prior, we relented and paid a merc BLM to come (they did fine) ... but the win didn't happen and it cost us... a lil piece of our souls.

Most of the parties I meet seem to feel only the main healer, not even the PLD tank, need to bring echo drops. I've gotten to a point where I tell anyone other than PLD or BLU I will not unsilence them. If the DRK is decent and knows how to stun I'll also do them but if they are an idiot I won't waste my mp. I expect BLM/SMN/SCH to stand outside of the AOE range and if they don't and I can't Silena because I need to keep the melee alive they go without and not complain.

I wish most brought drops then I could do more of what RDM is meant for instead of "pink" mage only.

EDITED: Removed DRK from the last line since it was unintended.

I always bring echos and try my best to stand out of range but if you have hate bouncing around like a ping pong, I'd be eating echos like tic tacs. Often thats the reason mages get silenced, either there is no one holding hate in the melee party or a crazy mage doesn't know hate management. I know there are some idiots that just don't care and then expect the mages that are careful to constantly silena them. I'll tell them "Either you move back to where we are or bring echos."
