I was referring to those individuals that actually did purchase the token/Satchel, it was they who could no longer use the excuse of not wanting to tote about a few extra pieces of Acc, Haste, or Atk gear.

But, seeing as how the token is just a shade more expensive(after shipping) than any one of the expansion scenarios, no one who bought one of the scenarios (let alone all three), has any room to cite cost as a limitation.

Firewall stops other computers from accessing mine without my permission. My understanding that is how they steal your account information by installing a trojan that records your password.

The other I read was with a fake website and I only go to SE using the address bar not trusting links.

What else does it do other than prevent a person that might have your password log into the account?

Currently, I can't afford extra costs with work being slow often having to forego playing on and off so I can't justify purchasing any more scenarios or a token.

In general you don't really understand how your firewall is working.

The keylogger is installed behind your back by malicious javascript that is embedded in compromised sites or ad servers. ffxi-atlas, ffxiah, somepage and ffxiclopedia have all fallen victim to this in the past year, sometimes multiple times.

A firewall does not protect you from this.

Once the keylogger is installed and you log in without the token all the information you just entered is sent on to a listening server to be recorded. Most (all?) consumer firewalls do not restrict any outgoing traffic so they aren't going to protect you from this either.

This is what the token protects you from. There is a 30 second window from when you hit the button on the keyfob that the tokens generated password is valid. You need both the random password to be correct and your username and password combo to log in. The 30 second window of opportunity makes the practicality stealing accounts this way next to nil.

Very, very rarely is a home user going to have a directed attack from the outside carried out against them. A firewalls use here is preventing worms that are simply scanning masses of IP addresses looking for vulnerable hosts.
I use a Mac because I'm just better than you are.

Ty for the explanation. Knowing that I'll probably get it when I have the money.

Not exactly. I think the generated code is valid for at least a few minutes, and maybe for as long as 30 minutes. The keyfob does generate a new key every 30 seconds so, but unless you use a (chronologically) later code, the code you saw a few minute ago still will let you log in.

Perhaps it can be characterized as sequential code invalidation? Anyway, the strength of this security measure is that the code cannot be reused--not from another computer, and not even from the same computer, since at the first use, every code is invalidated, along with all previously generated codes (within some time period, I assume)--that property stops simple, normal keylogging based attacks from compromising the SE account.

Of course, if the hacker can intercept the log in attempt, record the authentication info, and prevent the player from submitting the authentication information (including the code from the keyfob) and instead do it from another machine (under the control of the hacker), then the account can still be hijacked.

Is it really too much trouble to get the f'n Campaign map to refresh in a decent amount of time. I mean really... I don't know how many times I've been tricked at this point. I've tele'd out to E. Ron(S) when the map says there's fighting only to find non-battle music, I run to the fort (long run) ... check the map and it still lists where I'm at as having battle ... there is NONE... I tele back to town... check the map after I get to the tele dude, still fighting, there was never a fight in the last 5 min... BS!!! Nothing like getting in a string of them too...

Also... I find these two things very funny:

                  1) the people who wait for the beastmen army at the front line... you will die... let them have the fort then, then pull them off of it... nothing says /laugh like seeing an NM clear 20-30 NPC's right at the start of the battle.

                  2) um... er... the fact I got busy at work and totally forgot what my 2nd was gonna be... CURSES!!!!!

The information on the key fob said the code was good for 30 seconds. Direct quote from the Square site "When entering the one-time password, a six digit number will appear as the password once the button on the security token is pressed. Please enter the password within 30 seconds as the password will change after that time." Square Enix Support Center And I have one of the keyfobs - if I hit it, then blank the screen, then hit it again a new number will appear. I can have a new number every second, it does not take 30 seconds to generate a new number.

Test it yourself. (Hint: I've done it; put the code in POL, wait more than 60 seconds, then hit return.)

Hell, I'd even sympathize TPing in MAcc gear (though just barely), at least that can be explained if you're worried about En-spell accuracy. Alas, not even that.

I mean, it's typically only in Campaign battles, and I respect that in such a casual environment players are free to conduct themselves as they please, and so I keep my mouth shut.

To be fair it's not exactly hard to hit regular Campaign mobs and if your your RDM has thier Sword skill capped you will only really need +Acc gear for some of the NMs.

I know that with capped club skill on my WHM and capped sword on my Lv66 PLD I only really need to macro in some +Acc stuff to hit NMs in campaign so I leave in gear the lets me toss out cures for longer to farm more XP and AN >.>

So sick of NM camping... Had to kill Lizzie around 7 times before I got the drop, and I am still 0/10 on VE. It doesn't help that people like to come in and just start killing everything except the damn PH which makes it harder to find the PH...
