BLM again? Try soloing, I promise once you get the hang of it, it's fun.

If/when you join an endgame shell, you'll get plenty of time to learn how to MB on big mobs (ZNMs, HNMs, Jailers, whatever). And hell, that's not really all that difficult, if you don't know when to go and if you have your filters set right, you can start casting just a moment after the other BLMs in the alliance do and still land the MB.

And eventually you'll learn it on your own. You'll start to pay attention to when your melees are about to WS and exactly how soon you need to start casting. It's not really hard.

Yeah...Black Mage again. I'm still only 31 and I only plan to take it up to 37 for now, though I might come back later.
I haven't really had much luck with soloing as of late. I don't know if it's my gear, my skills or just the lack of truly powerful nukes at this level, but soloing feels damn slow. Heck, just picking on the bees in Rolanberry goes something like this:
        Bind > nuke > nuke > sleep > /heal > bind > nuke >repeat until dead > /heal for 2 minutes
Anything more threatening tends to resist and then comes to beat my ass down. It's just not my cup of tea.

Aye, I've had a little experience with magic bursting from when I was duoing with this one corsair a few months back so I'm not completely hopeless. It's just frustrating to have such a neat mechanic be completely disregarded in every single exp party I've ever been in.

The key to BLM soloing is picking on beastmaster mobs. Search the forums here or on ffxiclopedia for "BLM SOLOING" and you'll find a place that has a mob and a pet. The key is you stay out of aggro range of the mob and when he turns his back on you (for gobs) you fire a big nuke on his pet. The pet runs towards you and you either take him out or sleep, rest and then take him out. You get great xp off of the pets.

Ah ha, so that's the trick to it. I was just running around aggroing normal mobs. I'll try pet hunting tonight and see if it goes any better.

People who invite you to a party and then can't be bothered to wait for you to get there before replacing you with someone closer.

You know what? Next time don't bother to fucking invite me you asshole!

That's happened to me on WHM a lot and sometimes COR. It usually happens when a party ignores someone's warning then they need to leave so the impatient leader just invites whoever can get there in seconds.

People are stupid, ok now it makes more sense.

The vast majority of RDMs and BRDs are people levelling them purely for merits and party invites so it's very difficult to find RDMs and BRDs that actually enjoy the job and take the time to learn how to play rather than just "brainafkcure4hastespam" or "brainafkminuetmadrigalspam". I've seen RDMs get themselves killed may times because they converted in AoE range of the mob. It's even more amusing when RDM PLs convert while in AoE range of say a Gobbie Smithy and they have to get the party to raise them .

At least you can solo your own merits . Campaign for merits is painfully slow. The annoying thing is is that WHM/SCH can now easily keep up with a with the right support: Stoneskin cures, Sublimation, Noble's Tunic, Light Staff, Light Arts, Sanction Refresh, Cure V, Curagas, Regen III, Barspells, Esuna, Flash... Toss in Ballad and/or Evoker's Roll and Healer's Roll and the WHM/SCH can last for a very, very long time and is viable for a merit party. WHM + BRD and/or COR isn't optimal but it still gets the job done.

Fun fact: A WHM and PLD can stop a DD from ever taking any damage from pulling hate if Flashes, Stoneskin Cures, Shield Bash, Voke and the DD's damage mitigation abilities (Shadows, Third Eye, Super Jump, Stuns etc) are timed correctly.

It's as Mhurron said, players are stupid and flat out refuse to take something that isn't a "perfect" setup for a merit party even if the party members themselves aren't even geared for a merit party or don't have an actual merit subjob instead of just subbing /NIN out of laziness because "lolshadowzarebeztz!111".

Installed FFXI Ultimate on my new laptop. Immediately had to go in to update my credit card since it expired last month and I was LM-08'd for non-payment fees. After doing all that and then installing 2 1/2 hours worth of updates, I didn't even feel like playing anymore . The good news is that when I get ready to play again, I'll be ready.

Hauberk is now 60k (HOLY SHITE!) (Hauby is like 120-150k) I almost danced the other day when I saw Vermy's Cloak was 300k (Didn't it used to be like 700k?) I wanted to get one for my BLU awhile back but never got around to it since it costed so much (Blu couldn't wear it anyways >.>, its not high enough). Royal Cloak was around 500k unless I read it wrong. Martial Bhuj dropped to 1 million which is a shock to me since it had went up to like 1.8million at one time...

                        • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

Mildly vexed with exp parties that don't perform anywhere close to their fullest potential.

Had a exp party on Colibri in East Ronfaure [S], I was on Cor. Party setup was Whm, Rng, Dnc, Pld, Cor, Drg. Kill speed was fast, but the Pld was pulling for some unknown reason. So I wait a bit to see what's up, Pld only pulls from the exp camp location, and we kill the birds decently fast enough, but once the camp is empty it's empty and we're waiting on respawns, and after about 10-15 minutes I just say that now I'm pulling.

I pull from far and wide so there is a pretty steady stream of exp with little downtime. I'm a little irked at the Rng or Dnc for not pulling, but meh. Then I notice that the Rng is now meleeing for TP and the Dnc is not using any or very few steps or curing or sambas, and he's not WSing either, so he's just constantly sitting on 300% TP and seeming to use a token Dnc move every so often. Healing was mostly handled by the Pld, with regens and light cures from the Whm, or maybe it was a Rdm, I forget and they were /anon, I think Whm 'cause of Protectra II.

Now granted, we were killing fast, exp was pretty good, but still.... I was a bit disappointed. The exp party could have been alot better, and I feel a little bit, I dunno. I brought my A game, performed to the best that I could and tried my best to be an attentive support job buffer/puller/DD, but frankly I feel like the Rng and Dnc were just mooching off of me. I really dislike that, especially when I'm paying so much for a party as Cor. Now again, exp was great, just could have been better, it's just that the lack of performance on their part left kind of a bitter taste in my mouth I suppose.

I'm all for having fun and goofing off a little bit in a party, but I expect a bit more from people than what I saw. Though keep in mind, Pld, Drg, and Whm performed just fine. I did complain a little about hate control to my LS, but I'll also admit that maybe I was pushing the hate line a little more than I should have, or realized that I was. I just switched from a 600 delay gun to the AF gun of what, 480 delay?

Looking forward to the Deluxe Carbine at lvl 46, and then Shark Gun at 60, mwahahahahahaa :D

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.

At that lvl I'd still pull as DNC if there were no other puller-type members avail (Thf, Rng, Brd) ... but too much later in lvl and IF you're doing all that you're supposed to be doing as DNC then you it's very difficult to pull and still function well... Rng shoulda been pulling in that pt though, imHo. I tried pulling in a merit party on DNC... they made me stop... I just had too much hate and would pull the mob off with me and be unable to get many abilities off before it was time to pull another. Once they had someone else start pulling it was way way better... it was versus Mamools and not birds.

This is a peeve of mine... players who give my favorite job to play, DNC, a bad name by being too lazy to function properly... there's sooooooo many of them too. It really annoyed me when I was lvl'n SAM and knew what the DNCers in my party could do but they weren't doing it... too many macros. When I'm doing DNC right my hands hurt from all the crazy macro'n I'm doing from all my abilities that keep constantly making themselves available.

As a RDM, when I'm in a party with a lazy RDM while I"m on another job it really irks me. I've sent tells with suggestions like "use regen it really helps you manage your MP" and they're so sure "no its wastes more MP than saves". There is no reason a RDM 50+ should be constantly running out of MP if they learn to manage their spells.
