  • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

Solmyr hit it on the head. There are times when tanks or pullers have lost just enough HP for a Regen alone to heal it and aren't in any danger of taking any more damage soon. They may be very good at keeping shadows up all the time of we may just simply be waiting for the next pull or moving on to the next area in Nyzul or Dyna. It could be that everyone is /NIN so the front line fighters aren't in danger of very suddenly losing huge chunks of MP (well unless you're doing Sky Gods or HNMs).

There are times when the party has lost a chunk of HP which is when it's really nice to break out the curagas but even then, if you only have say 3 people who have lost HP and aren't in danger of being hit anytime soon you have three separate Regen spells to drop on those couple of party members that aren't currently in mortal danger.

A good RDM will see this and maybe drop a Curaga or Cure 1 if the regen spells won't quite bring everyone back up to full health.

A bad RDM will just ignore the fact that you are casting regens and just spam Cure IV everywhere.

A good RDM will let you main heal because the strength of the Stoneskin effect given to you by Solace is based on how much HP you have cured.

A bad RDM will just cockblock your cure stores and in the long run cause both of you to use more MP because the tank isn't getting the capped stoneskin effect from your cures.

A good RDM will see that you are /SCH and communicate with you to see if Refresh or Sublimation is the best option for your MP regen. (Hint: Sublimation saves the RDM lots of MP in parties that have lots of people who need refreshing)

A bad RDM will just refresh himself while staring at you blankly when you ask them to refresh the tank.

A good RDM will split hate cycles with the WHM. Tank, 3DDs, WHM and RDM means that the WHM and RDM are only ever hasting two people each.

A bad RDM will stand and stare then start overwriting the hastes you started to cast to keep the DDs happy.

    3. Why the hell you play WHM is beyond me.
    4. If you were my WHM, and didn't have Protectra V, I'd have you booted from any of my endgame shells.
    5. Its your job to have those merit abilities taken care of, just like its any good PLDs job to merit emnity, or a DDs job to merit STR, etc.

Seriously, if a RDM heals over your Regen, tough shit, deal with it, theyre the ones wasting MP anyways. FoV Regen is only 1 hp/tic, so you're telling me that person doesn't deserve a Cure 2+ when they are at less than 10% health and will pretty much get owned if the next melee attack from the mob connects? Glad you dont play on my server.
Did I strike a nerve or something because you are the only person to take offence to someone venting for the first time in months in a thread designed for venting .

    1) Aion is a good game, you should try playing it some time rather than saying it sucks without proving to me that you have even played it. Someone not liking a game doesn't mean it sucks. using your logic that must mean that every game I've played and not like must also instantly suck.

    2) Aksannyi rants on every other half post but you don't call her out on it so what really gives you the right for whine at me for venting when there are other people who you should really be calling out before me.

    3) I play it because I like the job. The quality of my party members have nothing to do with the job I play. it's also not my fault that I have to put up with a lot of crap when playing as a WHM. You should try playing it sometime. If you are as over-sensitive as you post implies then you won't last 15 minutes as a WHM.

If a tank dies due to his own stupidity it's your fault.
If a dd is too stupid to watch his hate and dies it's your fault.
If an unavoidable wipe happens in any sort of party it's your fault.
If you give someone an R1 instead of an R3 to save time and MP you instantly suck
If you don't poisona or blindna a low priority party member in an emergency you are instantly gimo.
If you don't instantly poisona or blindna a low priority party member instead of say, the tank you instantly suck.
If the alliance wipes because a Sleepga II got resisted it's your fault.
If you run low on MP because the puller won't let you rest it's your fault.
If the PLD runs out of MP and you don't have Devotion up you instantly suck for not meriting it instead of Cures, Regens or Barspells.
If you have to curebomb the tank (or risk losing the tank) and take hate it's your fault.
If you ever dare to flash the mob the rest of the party usually starts screaming at you for "trying to tank".
If you ask a RDM to stop curing over your regens in a non-emergency situation then "UR HAELING IT RONG!"
If you can't find a rep when you need to leave the party it's always your fault for the party disbanding even if you stayed up until 4am for this group.
If you don't heal random strangers outside your party in Besieged or Campaign you instantly suck even if they refuse to tell you where they are because hey all WHMs are omniscient right?
If the puller pulls masses of links it's your fault that the party wipes because you didn't sub BLM over SCH.

    4) If you ask me to waste a merit point so you can have that extra few points of defence I don't know if I would be able to stop laughing at you long enough to drop the pearl. Seriously if you want me to throw away merits and MP so you can have a whole 5-13 extra defence I would be seriously worried about the quality of your shell's tanks.

    5) Yes I'm sorry that I'm unable to get merits because my server's playerbase is too ignorant to invite a WHM to a merit party. I'm sorry that I have to settle for 5k/hour pick up groups or force myself through hours and hours of campaign. Wow I must really, really suck at this game if I chose a class that I like rather than a class that will get me party invites all over the place

I, for one, can't get enough of those parties where you insist you have to leave soon and suddenly nobody in the party understands English.

Why have I not yet exploded: "BITCHES, I have to leave soon and am having trouble finding a replacement all while bashing macros to Haste you and keep you healed and watch your HP! Stop pulling mobs, goddamnit!"

Leveling a subjob to level a subjob to level a subjob.

I want to level a dragoon for those times when I want some time off from being a mage. To do this I need to level a subjob, probably warrior. To level warrior I need to go level another subjob, possibly ninja. To level ninja I need to level a subjob, probably warrior. To level warrior I need to level a subjob, possibly monk. To level monk I need to level a subjob, probably warrior.

That's a lot of trouble to go through just to get a sub ready for a job I want to level as a side project.

Solo something (say nin) with a whm sub to 18. If you are a mage already, I'm sure you have that to at least 9, right? then use that SJ (again, the example of nin, you can do something else) for war to 37. Then grab drg and run with it.

You could also do WAR/WHM (solo) to 18, then SAM/WAR to 37, as SAM is a pretty hot sub for DRG. With the FoV soloing anything with a whm sub is easy enough.

And remember, DRG/mage is very viable too. When the hubby and I go out in merpo we can out cure the whm that way, and make a game of it . Only with ls parties though, anything outside that and they freak.

I'm thinking about this too. I want my first advanced job to be BST. But I'd like to sub /WHM for my first 10-15 levels since I plan on solo'ing. But to level WHM I'd need to level BLM as a sub. So I'd be going back and forth with WHM and BLM until WHM is in the teens, then finally do some BST leveling. For me, we're talking several months of effort to get all that done.

Maybe I'll just sub /WAR since I already have that at 18.

Yeah, the subs thing is no fun. I've got DRG and RDM at 75, WAR, WHM, BLM and DRK at 37-42 (so full sj, and most teleports ) and the rest are all between 10 and 25. I need to get several of them to full sj status and I also want to do another full job, which would (I'm sure) need something I didn't all ready have at 37, or that I wasn't already planning to take there.

I love being able to change jobs, and wouldn't play without being able to do so. The pain in the assness that is leveling sj's is a price I'm willing to pay.

It would take me 20 years to level that many jobs!

I just want one, or at most, two adv. jobs to mess with and level all the way up (and by that, I mean 30-35, which is the highest I'll ever take a job).

Maybe someday I'll add my job levels to my sig like a lot of people around here do. In a few months I'll be like,
                  THF-30, WAR-18, BST-12, RNG-10 ...oh yeah, baby.

Only your first job sucks to level. It took me like 4 years of playing this game to finally reach a job to 75, and a lot of this was back when getting xp was a lot harder to get until TAoU came out, and even then thats only for 55+. After that it gets super simple, I'll have a 2nd 75 when I get off my lazy ass and finish my 74RDM, and have 2 jobs pretty close.

My first job took three years.

                      Second, six months after that.

                      Third, four(ish) months after that.

                      Fourth, a month after that.

                      Definitely gets easier.

Having to level Rdm as the /job I wish to have for my Sch "eventually"
Parties seem to show me no love I'm 27 and decently geared. spells up to date also and the best I have had is a 4 man fov team running about qufim island and an offer for the dunes which I politely declined. My skills are capped and it would be the 3rd healing/support mage I've played on Galen but I hold a strong belief that I shouldnt go to exp and sync in areas I should have moved on from. So I do a search while in kazham for people my level thinking I wouls construct a party myself and guess where everyone is? You got it the dunes and qufim.
                        Some people have no shame.

Comparatively, though, the xp/hr is much better in those places (well not the Dunes, but Qufim, at least) than in the jungles. All I remember of the jungle is that the xp is painfully slow without an xp band.

I just suspect I won't enjoy the game as much in the higher levels. I like the simplicity of the game in the 10-30 range. And I'll be high enough at 30 to do the rank 1, and 2 missions in San'doria.

So, when my THF hits 30 I'll unlock BST, RNG, DRK... when BST hits 30 I'll play with RNG...

Heh, and before that happens I'll probably drift away, deactivate my content ID, and get Champions Online.
Anyone played Champions yet? What do you think?

Easy way: Take WHM to 9. Congratulations! You can now easily solo any job to 18 without using any other sub, which lets it work as a sub for any other job up to 37.

Consider the broader /job picture if you will.

                                NON-mage/NIN or WAR

                                Mage/NIN or Mage

                                Either way, you'll need NIN.
DD: THF/WHM->18 (you'll thank me for this later), WAR/THF->37, NIN/WAR->37. Then maybe THF/NIN->37 and your subs are done unless you take DRK WAR or DRG to 75, in which case you'll need /SAM. So, SAM/WAR or SAM/THF or SAM/NIN->37. What worked? Good night...
