    What Aks said.

I mean in all fairness the first couple of times are going to be awkward no matter what, as the people are still getting used to Nyzul altogether, the response times of the lamps and all that. But after a point it should be like clockwork.

If'n you're going to get started in Nyzul, I highly recommend this:

Gaea's Nyzul Isle Guide - FFXIclopedia, the Final Fantasy XI wiki - Characters, items, jobs, and more

I may disagree with a point or two, but overall it's a very good and comprehensive guide to starting Nyzul.

Lamp floors are, in theory, so fucking easy, it's amazing that people manage to fuck it up. And yet I've witnessed that very thing happening in person on multiple occasions.

      I don't fucking get it.
Oh, did I forget to mention that there were no mobs on this floor either?

      >.>

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I personally felt Poof's guide was terrible when I read it but that's opinion, I'm sure there's some decent information in there. Ignore what they say about not taking in BRDs if that part is still in there.

I prefer Aksannyi's Nyzul guide, obv

People still think you "need" BRD for Nyzul Isle? When we climbed, our static was: WAR (or DRK, whatever he felt like being), WAR, SAM, BLU, SCH, and picked up a mage from the LS who wanted to help. We didn't fail a single floor all the way to 100. And we never had a BRD.

Peeve: The utter insidiousness of FFXI...

Been on a break a month now. It did me some good. Took the GRE 2 days ago and got a high score and a so-so score on the verbal section (which is kind of lame since I actually studied more for the verbal section), don't know the essay section score yet. But I feel going on break hasn't helped me with my job hunt any.

And now I'm getting bored again and there are times lately where I just say, "Damn, FFXI would've actually been fun to do right about now." Too bad I can't just reactivate a Content ID at the end of the month or I just waste a whole month's fee to pay for just a few days.

When I did Nyzul in a static, we did RDM WHM BLU PUP and a couple of other DD. It worked well because we had a prearranged split if the floor called for it, and if needed one mage could pull easily enough (especially since I was WHM/SMN and could manage some downright impossible pulls if need be that way).

As for ordered lamps, turning them on as you find them actually makes sense so long as you stay at your lamp. Once you have all the lamps, you'll know because they light up. If you're sure of the order you just used, you can use it as a starting point, and if not, at least you know you're good to start trying.

And Poof/Gaea's guide is all right. It's not horrible, but I disagree with Callisto about disagreeing about bringing BRDs. I personally hate them in Nyzul because they seem to slow everything down.

I wasn't saying anyone needs a BRD, Nyzul is incredibly flexible, what I was saying is the author of the guide they posted took a DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TAKE A BRD INTO NYZUL stance, which is just as stupid as saying that a BRD is critical for success.

Well there is the variable of whether or not they're bad at it, lol. Light-based sleep and dispel go far there, typically we used them more for the pulling than the buffs.

If I want light based sleep I can do that myself. If I'm finding myself in a group where more than one is needed at a time, that means the group is idiots and doesn't know how to pull/not link shit.

Light based sleep from whm is fine and dandy, but light based dispel is something only BRD can pull off (unless you have a BLU, and even then only if you can keep the mob facing the BLU for Blank Gaze). BRD is especially great for upper bosses (fl 60+) like Hydra and Cerberus (fuckin Magma Hoplon/Physical Shield). No its not a critical job for success, but it does have its uses agains flayers and the like.

I'd much rather have a BLU than a BRD. BLUs didn't seem to have much problems dispeling Soulflayer's Ice Spikes. And Soulflayers suck. Hard. They're one of the hardest sucking things in the known universe. Obviously BLU also has the benefits of being able to heal the party in those annoying no White Magic floors, and they won't die from not having Utsusemi if a no Ninjutsu floor happens. Plus being able to do both melee and magic damage, spike damage, and crowd control.

Agreed, BLU is increadibly flexible in all of these situations, but its difficult to rely on Blank Gaze cuz people tend to forget to keep the mob facing the BLU. Optimal setup for Nyzul to me is at least 2 BLUs (which is what my static does) with the usual DD spells set, except for the last few remaining points where we can set different buff or crowd controls spells (Yawn, Sheep Song, Blank Gaze, etc). Flayers in Nyzul aint hard, a decently equipped/skilled BLU can solo one without problems LOL.

Damn flayers, they resist Geist Wall far too much for my liking and I can never get the DD to keep the Soulflayer facing one way long enough for me to get Blank Gaze off >.<

Having a BRD is helpful, yeah. But it'd be tough to think of anywhere in the game where they are not. People still operate under the mistaken impression that a BRD will fix a broken party though. And in a case like Nyzul, only one person needs to be...inept...to break the whole party.

Nothing beats a BLU when you get one of the those confounded "No weaponskills" floors.

Myself and my BLU mentor Caelumira can both solo a Nyzul flayer, they're only DC in there dude =P again, you have to be skilled and geared right for it tho. now the flayers out in Caedarva and Arrapago are a different story
