    Did I mention that the main reason I brought those people in the first place was because they're both in my linkshell? ><;

      Intentional "Chat Speak" is beginning to get on my nerves a lot. My LS does it incessantly. I stick around because they are nice people. And for a social LS, they happen to get a lot of stuff done like Limbus, Salvage, and the occasional Dynamis or Sky run. That and a good number of them are avid Ballista players. But sometimes I don't know why I don't run from the room screaming.

      Here is a potential "conversation" at any given moment:
      <Dude> :O
      <Dude> U LOOTWHORE LOL
      <Homey> NO U. {Byakko's Haidate} {mine}
      <Homey> NEEDZ MOAR GEAR
      <Dude> NOWAI
      <Douchebag> HEY GAIZ, RETS GO CAMP CHARBY FOR MAI JOYTOY
      <Homey> D:

      I wish I could say that's an exaggeration, but it's actually pretty representative. Worse, it doesn't make sense to me. People say "Oh, I type like that because it's nice shorthand and saves time"...

      ...Typing "My" as "Mai" does not save time, in fact, you just added a whole keystroke to it. And "More" and "Moar" are the same number of letters.

        No, people type like that because it's somewhat funny and entertaining, especially if you read it the way it's typed (loudly and pronounced improperly). Here and there, it's really funny. All the time I suppose it could get annoying. My ls used to only do it here and there, and it would be pretty funny when it was used.

          It was funny at first. But I swear it must be about half of the type of talking the LS does. And it only takes one person who happens to do it a lot to get the entire LS going.

            Dude, you remember the massive jerk Paladin I mentioned on the last page who needed Utsusemi: Ni and Phalanx?

            He says "juno," and is the only person I know who does so.

            Granted, as some background, most of my LS types in less than proper English, anyway, but at least they keep it at reasonable/understandable levels. Heck, there have been jokes at how I and usually only one other person, ever, types using the lost art of "capitalization" and "punctuation," but for the love of all things good there is an "E" in JEUNO!!!

            Just, please, quit tripping off my chat filters with the combined powers of your improper English and freaking "juno." "Juno" was a Roman goddess of who-know-what, JEUNO is that bridgey-place.

              • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

                Mages, BLUs and ranged attackers are overpowered in PvP in general. To be honest it's only really PLDs that stand much of a chance against them. It sucks though I must admit, taking down SAMs, DRGs and DRKs as a "puny" little WHM/BLM is very satisfying and a lot of fun, especially in uncapped. It might have something to do with Holy doing insane amounts of damage in PvP especially when coupled with MAB or bind sticking often while you hit someone with the full plethora of enfeebs but it's very satisfying especially when people think WHMs are completely helpless in PvP.

                Though if you want to be a jerk in Ballista you'll go Mage/BLM or BLM/RDM and Bind+DoT someone to death.
                As I'm sure people know, Siren still has a somewhat active Ballista scene. Just the other night, there was a 60 cap match with 45 people. An uncapped match I was in last night made me think back to this.

                Before it fell out of favor with the greater player base, people used to go to Ballista in basically whatever they wore in parties and mages were viewed as extremely vulnerable. And the idea was generally to kill them because they were the most powerful units if they were left alone.

                It's interesting that, today, people who still play tend to gear themselves specifically for PvP, with new focus on HP, DEF, -Damage% taken, Movement speed, and Resist Gravity/Bind/Silence/Sleep gear. In addition, people are leveling subjobs expressly for the purpose of PvP (some of the most popular uncap subjobs are /PLD, /RDM, and /BLU, specifically for the defenses they provide) and now, good mages are recognized as among the most difficult units to take down.

                SO....

                There has been an interesting shift in plans, especially given the new WHM update. Apparently, the plan now is to completely ignore the mages (to the extent that people specifically tell the team not to attack them). Now the new flavor plan of the year is to attack everybody but the mage, and eventually run them out of MP. If they return to their camp after getting killed, their MP is fully restored. People left uncapped for a long time because BLU was viewed as an overpowered Ballista job. But it's almost comical how fast a BLU becomes a melee BLM if you expressly tell your own mages to focus on nothing but Aspiring them dry.

                Just yesterday, I had a blast on the following teams:
                BST (me) COR MNK THF RNG vs SAM WHM MNK THF RNG

                One would think our team would lose because it was less balanced than the other team. But we basically won over the other team by ignoring the WHM and letting him live long enough to use up all his MP. He eventually had to even start resorting to using Martyr to heal people. It didn't help that, as I said, people gear themselves in Defense and Damage% taken now. But between Primal Rend, Leaden Salute, and Trueflight, we effectively manaburned the other team (...manaburned as a function of melee!)

                  And then sleep/bind him and just leave him as not worth killing >.>

                      I agree with you there, lol this past tuesday I decided to do some ODS runs with some LS peeps, and one of them was a WHM (couldnt find a BLM to sleepga the scorps). So we explain to him what his job is (his first time doing ODS) and go into the the KSNM. We tell him to ES Sleepga the scorps from atop the little hill before going into the ring...............but instead of doing that he runs UP TO the scorps and tries to cast needless to say we died (managed to kill all but two) and the DRG who had gone first (not an LS member) force DCs once we zone out and leaves us to find a 6th. Anyways, 3 runs later, the WHM finally got the hang of it, but on the 4th run, the idiot hits STONEGA instead of sleepga but somehow we manage to get the scorps off of him and we survive to win. Needless to say we sent him packing and brought a BLM in to help with the last run........../sigh

                        I have run into my share of people that do that. Never in linkshell (And its a linkshell I've been with since I started the game again about 2 years ago. Except for one person who types "End" for "And", but thats because english isn't his main language.) Once in a while my ls will do it when we are bored, but we never do it to where its a constant thing. Its only about every 4 days we do something like that, and thats it.

                        But back to the party thing. I have had a few NA players with me and a few japanse. The puller's macro was <call3> when ever he pulled. I kept asking him to lower it, and he wouldn't. He would say... "No WaY yO!11" Or some shit like that. It caused a few of the Japanese players to leave, and I just kicked the guy, and got the players back into the party.

                        Another party was 4/6 japanese players. I was the leader (Like most of teh parties), and one of the Japanese players caused a wipe of the party (Got aggro from a betle in garlaige Citidel, and My sleep kepts getting resisted). I had RR up so I revived my self, and raised teh party. All the while, the other NA player was sitting there bashing the one that got aggro, and his english was so fucking horrible! But the one he was bashing knew english, so he sent me a tell asking me to kick him, or he would leave. So, I raised everyone (Including the ass, but he was puller.) I told the tank not to voke the monster off him when he pulled, he died, and he started bashing the tank now, but I just kicked him, and had anothe thf coming.

                                Haha I dind't think about that. XD Some people just have to learn though. I've dome worse to a few people who have done the same. If some one bashes a friend of mine, or anyone in my Ls, I offer to "help" them, then I let them get killed a few times before I Warp out. I don't take lightly to peopel who speak bad of people who I personally know, or have known for a long time. I lived with that for a long time. I was the "outcast" of teh school basically furing High school. I hated it, and if I see something going on like that, I do something about it now.

                                But as another Pet Peeve...

                                The time sinks in the game. Rdm AF 2. Gotta wait until JST Midnight, which is 11:Am Esp, and its only 30 mins to 9 Pm here atm.
