I agree it's definitely a good thing for when you want em. And if I'm in a zone where the good stuff drops I use Elwynne's awesome opener-program to get the best chance of opening.

I don't want them in this certain case though. I love getting that D-wing when I'm duo'n out in the wilds and also have that random eye drop so I'm no longer blind; but, when I'm farming, I kill with one-shots... I'm going as quick as I can to reap a larger harvest. Low-lvl mobs with drops that sell fast. Before people chew me a new one, I do leave the area should people come to experience in it and find another place. I simply have not found the success in farming higher-lvl "anything" for bigger/better profit. Should you be there for the same reasons as me... oh, it's on!

If ever I decide to farm for the lil bit of good gear that is in those caskets this "pet-peeve" shall turn into a "thank god they made these caskets drop good, omg"... I wouldn't mind the caskets dropping if it didn't seem to me like it takes precedence over the mob's regular drops. And if SE didn't put in the damn things so many worthless items - chocobo feather, Yag. feather, pebble... I mean jeezus, are those supposed to be practical jokes? Every so often ya get a potion +1 to NPC for 100-200gil... whooohoo? I've just rarely ever gotten anything I felt was worth taking the time to open the thing... yet.

Like I said.. when I decide I want some of the few good items in those caskets, my perspective will change... but for now I'm on this side o' the fence.

Sigh, I remember when I was camping Diana Corona. A week in, I saw a BLU in Ro'Maeve who said he was just getting FoV tabs. He didn't even want the crown, but he had it. I asked when he found it, said almost verbatin "20 minutes ago on my second casket."

I even took a screenshot that I may always treasure that moment.

Whilst we're on the subject of those damn treasure caskets. Custodes drop from the chest in Qufim. I've been levelling mnk on my mithra so that I have the complete set of subs for dnc. These things dropped twice on me whilst I soloed my sam sub on my elvaan.

+2 freaking Magic Accuracy on an earring (with +1 STR and MND to boot)! I mean, I guess this doesn't technically qualify as a peeve, but that's like winning the lottery on your ear slot if you're a RDM . . .

. . . Also, the linkshell member marked "same guy" is not, in fact, the same guy as the JP player, I just did that to indicate that the messages were from the same person for some reason.

People who play with their children. Or rather, certain kinds of people who play with their children.

I get that you like to do things with your kids. Hell, letting your kid play on an account with you and duoing sounds nice. I bet it would be fun, really. Here's the thing: I dislike when said parents get bent out of shape that their child playing in a teen game is exposed to teen vocabulary. It will happen. Your child will hear curse words. They will hear talk about sex. They will hear talk about drugs, alcohol, blowjobs. If you don't like it, perhaps you shouldn't have your child on a game populated largely by teen-twenties players.

Despite what some idiot in a LS tried to claim once, the 13+ to use POL or its services is still part of the TOS to FFXI. So if SE felt so inclined, they could shut your account down when they found out a child under 13 was using it. It says right on the damn box, you don't even have to READ the entire TOS. Fine print on the box that children under 13 are not permitted to play. Dur.

You as a parent should accept the responsibility for what the child hears when you stick it in this environment. You should not, however, expect us all to become psychics and know when your child is lurking about, and clean up appropriately. By rights they shouldn't even be there, and while it's nice of people to be respectful of the child, in truth they are not obligated to. They are on a teen game talking about teen things, and there's plenty of disclaimers about Online Interactions not being rated by the ESRB, etc. So you walked into it with your eyes wide open.

While I do not like people who rattle on about sex and their drug habits, or curse every other breath, it is going to happen. And you should know this having played the game. So if you put your child in it, either turn off the LS and never party, or accept that your child is going to hear these things. It's not like they don't hear it in school anyway, you just put your head in the sand and pretend they don't.

I've actually dropped pearls over this nonsense. I don't have problems with kids in my games. Kids are pretty funny. And I'm not one who curses that much in game unless I get truly annoyed, so its not as if it really 'affects' me directly. It's more the self-importance of these people who expect an entire Linkshell to conform around their bringing a child into it, and then expecting all the people in it to adjust to their rules for what little Timmy can and cannot hear that annoys me.

God, too true. I had someone get pissed off at me the other day for saying (exact quote), "GDI!!!" I didn't even say "God damn it," but just the abbreviation, and I got bitched at.

Okay first of all if you are easily offended, you might wanna GTFO the internet. It's not the place for you. You will find plenty of things that hurt your sensitive soul. Second of all, how in the hell is anyone offended by an abbreviation? Okay, okay, I get that you and I both understand that it means a term which is taking the lord's name in vain. Okay. I understand how that is kind of offensive. Again, this is the internet. Not only that, but this is the universe. It's cruel, unkind, crass, rude, crude, and whatever else. You might wanna get used to it. Also, I certainly don't mean any personal offense to you or your religion. Hell, I believe in God, too. I also believe in this thing called forgiveness, so when I fuck up, I just kinda go, "Uh ... sorry," and things are cool. God and I are chill. He doesn't stay mad for long. But that's another story entirely.

As far as kids hearing cuss words ... let them. Seriously, it's not hurting anything. Their brains are not going to lose IQ points from hearing me utter a MOTHERFUCKER when I get ganked in WoW (lol) or a FUCKING SHITBALLS when I die to something really stupid while soloing on BLM.

I swear I'm the only parent who thinks this way anymore. I don't try to shield my kids from swear words. I know they're going to hear it. I'd rather tell them what things mean and explain why it's not considered appropriate to use it than have one of them just yell out "FUCK!!!" at the top of their lungs in Wal-Mart because they thought they could be funny/cute whilst embarrassing the shit out of me.

I don't understand why people get so offended at a lot of things, but I also realize that they do. And my honest and best advice to them is seriously, don't spend your time in the fiery pits of /b/ or BG or Something Awful or whatever the hell else, because you will find things that bother you. And these are the people who make an account, post "OMG YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES" and really, this is the internet, we're just gonna laugh at you. You're not changing anything. You're annoying, GTFO.

I'm not altering my way of talking for anyone. If they don't like it, there's /blist in FFXI, ignore functions on forums, and the ability to walk away in RL. So they can, quite seriously, suck my dick. (I am aware that I don't have one. I enjoy saying that because of the way it just rolls off the tongue, "lick my cunt" or something just doesn't have quite the same ring to it.)

How is that people can decide what elements of a job are valuable and what are not? Was on BST yesterday duoing with a DNC in Cape Terrigan's FoV Page 5 and suddenly the discussion of WSs came up, mostly comparing Primal Rend with Pyrrhic Kleos. Death Blossom came up and I mentioned that it opens both Light and Darkness skillchains. He felt this was a waste of a WS, going to a RDM because RDM should backline in any situation that mattered anyway. And that all this new low man content SE has been adding lately do not count.

It's kind of like how some MNKs (only the ones prone to QQ though) ranted about how PUP should not have gotten Stringing Pummel because PUP could not use it to its full potential.

What made this situation irritating though was, not an hour later, he was asking in LS if anybody would help him unlock Leaden Salute on his COR. When I asked what would make a level 3 skillchain, 3 people almost simultaneously said "Death Blossom > Detonator". Yeah, not useful at all. But when it came time to need it, he was sure content to exploit the fact RDM was one of the best people to duo things with as well as their wasted WS.

Separate peeve: After about 25 WSs, he finally realized he hadn't even started "Unlocking a Myth (Corsair)" yet...

Idiot RDM's that dont pay attention -.-

I was pting yesterday in Caedarva on BLU and i tell the RDM in tell to not haste me since I can cover that myself, to just please refresh me, now mind you, he only has me, a whm, and him/herself to refresh at this point. Throughout the entire party he only remembers to refresh me twice, however is CONSTANTLY hasting me, which overwrites MY haste making it a waste of MP. So switch out spells (since obviously i dont need Refueling anymore) and guess what? HE STOPS HASTING ME! Ugh I swear i had to waste TP resting (switchin out for my Dark Staff) because I kept running out of MP every three fights or so.

If I had to take a guess it's the fact that you're almost at the threshold for Aht Urhgan. As I understand it people start on Colibri at 54.

I never had invite problems but I don't think I'm on the same server as you and that was also like two years ago as well so your mileage may vary =/

Xbox Live is down today. I just realized my ps2 with XI on it is packed away in storage for my move in august, and for the life of me cannot find my install disc for my PC. In game peeve: Joining a ls, telling them from day one, you gave me the pearl without an application, i will come to events if im able to. Not when i log in, for 10 minutes checking AH, you sending me a tell to come camp some HNM and logging because i have to be up at 4am for work.
Now i know your thinking, why join a egls if you cant go? well, i was asking a friend for a social when i came back to Unicorn, and in turn his LS was in Pjeuno doing limbus and i got a egls out of the deal. (which is awesome) but wasnt expecting it.

As Armando said, you can expect things to pick up again @54 ... I dinged 54 on SAM recently, and the only problem I had after that is how far behind my polearm skill was lagging. The low 50s are a bit tricky for good spots, and being the tank, they couldn't take you to ToAU areas early. Just slog it out with FoV and try not to let skills lag behind...
