Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?
Not quite. Their statistics aren't any different than any other generic WAR mob (which is most things really.) Which means that Crawlers are squishier by being just about the only mob family I know of with a sub-standard Def rating (E instead of C), any mob with a piercing weakness is squishier by virtue of having a type weakness, and most non-WAR/PLD/THF mobs (especially mages, RNGs, and BRDs) are squishier by virtue of having lower HP and worse evasion ratings than WARs. Oh yeah, and Mandragoras (although those fall under the "piercing weak mob" category.)
Basically anything that's not a crab or beetle (PLDs) or a THF (certain Goblins) is just as squishy - or squishier - than spiders. If you think they're squishier it may just be that you're not overhunting on them (which would be a natural decision considering how dangerous their Sickle Slash can be) combined with good party setups. Or you may be comparing them to crabs. Or it may be a placebo. I don't know. But from my old days of tracking down mob stats and reverse-engineering their job/sub combination, I can say with certainty they're nothing more than generic WAR mobs from a stat point of view.
Spiders are super squishy, even more so than scorpions.
