Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?
Nope, my point was to just give the mage the benefit of the doubt, at least until the PT gets rolling and everything falls into a routine.
I think it should be said, however, that if a job needs to cast spells as part of their job, then they should always carry a stack of echo drops (read: NIN or /NIN, especially in the mire). This doesn't mean that you should spam your echo drops the moment you get silenced, but if, for some reason, the mage can't get to you right away, you've got a way to help yourself.
As a healer, I establish an order for removing silence/para/etc from the PT. Sometimes a player chooses to use their drops instead of waiting for me to silena them, since they may be number 3 or 4 on my list (or, I, myself am silenced, and so my silena-routine is delayed by a few seconds while I use echo drops on myself). I'll let them know that they don't need to use their drops; that I'll get to them ASAP. Most of the time that is enough to put them at ease; let them know that as a healer, I recognize that they have a need to cast. It also makes me feel more confident that I have a competent player who isn't afraid to spend a little bit of gil to take care of themselves.
