Never done FFXI endgame, but when I played WoW I was in the top raiding guild on my server and we had a rule about this and various other things on Vent.

If we were raiding and just clearing trash or fighting stuff that is basically on farm status then just general chit chat and whatever is fine.

If were fighting something for the first time or something that actually requires everyone to focus to win then there is to be nothing said on Vent that isn't relevant to the event.

If you're hit with a status effect/debuff you do not call it out on Vent unless it is something that's about to kill you (in which case someone should have noticed it anyway) or you are someone extremely important to the success of the encounter (main tank or the only fear ward priest, usually).

Manthras.. I don't see the issue with. Is it weird to hear a male voice on Vent and know he's playing a female character? If you already knew it was a man playing the character then what does it matter? I don't think I have rolled a male character since I was into EverQuest.

That is all I am asking for, ppl act like it cant be done. I have been in ls's that use Teamspeak / Vent for EG and they went very well. Being over dramatic about it, is most surely going in the wrong direction. Use vent for the benefit it brings to others. Dont be so selfish, if you get ppl who wont follow the rules in your ls then you are grouping with the wrong bunch of individuals.

Unless your healer is retarded, you shouldn't have to tell them you have a negative status effect, unless it's something unfamiliar (like an NM your ls has never fought). If it's been there a while, you might wanna ask, but generally your healer knows.

If he knows and won't do it, he's an asshole. Kick him.

Ill go with retarded and spiteful, cuz after I mentioned that I had run out of echoes (because he kept failing to silena me when my shadows were down) he starts DDing! Dont get me wrong, I'm all for SMNs DDing and such, but not when you were invited as a main healer! So I think the leader (RNG) finally tells him something, so the SMN brings his other character (a WHM) as an outside healer and status remover and yet, still manages to fail at his fucking job. Slowest PT I've ever had at the higher levels

Two points. It's not selfish to choose not to use vent/ts/whatever. A person plays the game to have fun and enjoy themselves. If being on vent makes it not as enjoyable then why should they do it? To make someone else's gaming more enjoyable? Now thats selfish.

Second point, when you have 30+ people on vent or even in ls communicating with one another there are bound to be people with clashing personalities. Thats just plain old human nature. These conflicting personalities are what leads people to not following rules, conflicting discussions, irritating habits, and so on which can make being on vent annoying and unproductive. I've been using vent/ts for most of the years I've been playing and only recently decided to save myself money on aspirin by not participating. Best decision ever, imo.

i hate mages that get pissed or complain when they need to or are asked to cast: refresh, paralyna, (insert its a spell your job has access to and its suppose to be cast by you to help other s in your party so STFU AND CAST THE F'ING SPELL!)

Don't forget that there might be a very good reason why the mage hasn't removed that negative status effect, or cast that spell yet. And it doesn't do any good to spam the log that your haste/refresh/whatever dropped. Give the mage a spell or two, and if they still haven't removed it, then mention that you've got something on ya that is effecting your performance. If it is the first few pulls of a PT, give him/her a chance to get used to the mobs, their TP moves, and the effects of those moves. A good mage knows what the PT needs and will prioritize accordingly. Harassing your mages doesn't do anything good for the PT.

The ones who think think the way they do it is the only way its possible. So I asked him to help (Cause I didn't think it would work at all.)

I can understand that, but if you talk enough with ppl over vent. You come to know everyone and what they are like. Making it a very friendly environment. I use Vent / Voice chat in EQII (Everquest II) with Guildies and even group members for instances. It is a very popular choice and I never seem to have the issues you stated above. Of course there is always that one person that no one likes but they are easily muted. Spending enough time with ppl will bring you closer to them allowing you to get along with them, know them, and even perform wonders over voice / vent chat in raids (alliances) / groups that you could not accomplish before. It makes it so much easier imo. Like with dynamis some ppl cant help but get lag and its not b/c their computer is not great but the amount of support the game actually has in some cases (like Vista and Nvidia Graphics cards). That talking over vent cure's those annoying lag moments where you cannot even get a word in edge wise b/c you cant even type. If you used vent you would be able to easily communicate your situation saving potentially a lot of lives.

I know that is a big rant, but if everyone took the time to know each other and use vent to its full potential (if they have the equip for it). You could really benefit as a linkshell from just that simple change. I have seen it done and am in the process of helping my Linkshell to benefit from it. It really does save a lot of time.

Yep this. I've seen it work on rare occasions and its awesome when it does. But when it doesn't work, and that happens often in my experience, its just not worth the headaches. Besides, I have a lot of leadership responsibilities irl and online and thats a lot of stress so I choose to avoid it when I can.

The gates/rusty levers in Movalpolos. I got an Oldton key to drop and went looking for the treasure chest. Yep, it was up by one of the two upper rusty levers. After a bit of googling (because 'pedia doesn't tell you how the rusty levers work) I figured out that basically someone left the gates in the "wrong" position after doing the BC or some other NM.

Fortunately I'm WHM75/BLM33, and had Escape, and I had a firesand and a bunch of sulfur in my MH. So I made a bunch more firesands, and used one of them to change the gate. All the baddies were looking the wrong way, and nothing saw me before I Escaped out of there.

I guess someone thought the Garlaige gates weren't annoying enough.

I got locked inside of Gusgen once because I logged out right behind the open door, that was closed when I logged in the next day. I swear somebody must've been running around closing all the doors so I couldn't get out. Eventually a LS buddy came and let me out.

I half agree with you. If it's a mob that spams a certain status ailment AoE, then there's virtually no point in continuously harassing the mage for the corresponding -na spell.

However, the only status ailment that I almost always need taken off is paralyze. Everything else, I could give a damn about. I never complain when I have poison on me, blind on me, etc.. Unless the poison is about to kill me, I'll usually just keep my mouth shut and let the mage do what he wants.
