Well I'll be honest, I don't use vent. I did in the past and could see the potential of it but there is also a downside. I prefer to use it for serious matters DURING EVENTS. But so many people want to chit chat or tell jokes or whatever while others are trying to communicate. And yes, I know you can have different rooms for different stuff but that doesn't last long. People feel like they are missing something or they are lonely or whatever and the pester you by coming in or (if its locked) paging you. And whats the point of separate rooms during an event anyways? The point is to effectively communicate how to do things in game and if you are in separate rooms thats not going to happen.
So I've sorta given up on vent because I prefer not to be distracted during events. I also don't like people talking nasty about others that aren't on vent (or are and drama ensues). And be a leader and put your foot down about what should be talked about on vent once too.......good way to get labeled a b***h and get on people's bad side.

I wish there was more vent/skype users at times.
Espically in battle field areas.
Or at least a SE made one... like with wow's build in voip, but better.

SoE put a built in Voice chat in EQII and its amazing. Wish FFXI had something like that. Everyone uses it =], and ppl know when to shut up in that game. Too bad same cant be said for FFXI.
Vent/Skype = "God no, please make it stop!" In my book.
Seriously, I would never be able to play using voice on games other than shooters (CoD etc.), and that's only because the headset communication is kinda part of the setting. }
Maybe in Japanese, but even then I seriously doubt I could do it.
PS > I realize I'm sooooo not end game material....

Tonight on the 10 O'clock news:
Five dead and several more seriously injured after crazed woman goes on a rampage. Details are sketchy but it would appear victims were apparently beaten with a large, heavy, blunt, paper based object, most probably a dictionary. Several of the victims also show signs of repeated exposure to an apostrophie.
We'll bring you more on this story as the information comes in.
Rail fares in the Uk are 50% higher than Europe. A new survey reveals........
I would just think that with vent, all the "POISONA NOW!" (or CURE ME! after sleepga) whining would be ten times as annoying.
And then there would be all the Manthras...
Never done FFXI endgame, but when I played WoW I was in the top raiding guild on my server and we had a rule about this and various other things on Vent.
If we were raiding and just clearing trash or fighting stuff that is basically on farm status then just general chit chat and whatever is fine.
If were fighting something for the first time or something that actually requires everyone to focus to win then there is to be nothing said on Vent that isn't relevant to the event.
If you're hit with a status effect/debuff you do not call it out on Vent unless it is something that's about to kill you (in which case someone should have noticed it anyway) or you are someone extremely important to the success of the encounter (main tank or the only fear ward priest, usually).
Manthras.. I don't see the issue with. Is it weird to hear a male voice on Vent and know he's playing a female character? If you already knew it was a man playing the character then what does it matter? I don't think I have rolled a male character since I was into EverQuest.
VoIP would be a great idea. I mean it would be just like XBox live! Then I would have to listen to:
People who whine when they die mid heal
The people who beg for poisona on a 1HP/tick poison
People bugging for a heal
People bugging for a PL
The SAMs crying for haste
Drama queen BRDs telling me how to play my job
People bugging to be woke up after a sleepga
People thinking that the voice chat is thier own karaoke machine
Melee jobs crying for a haste
People thinking that other people care about what music they have on
Kids that like to drop racial slurs in every sentence
People bugging to be woke up after a sleepga
People crying that they had to eat a R2 instead of an R3
Melee jobs crying for a haste
People bugging for a PL
People begging for sneak/invis at the start of every zone
People who beg for poisona on a 1HP/tick poison
Melee jobs crying for a haste
People telling me how to play my job
People whining about someone stealing their mob
People arguing with each other
People bugging for a heal
People attempting to hit on female players
That one idiot who thinks that yelling EPIC WINZ is still funny
People who can't be bothered to turn the mic off when they're eating
People who can't be bothered chew with their mouths closed and turn the mic off when they're eating
People who beg for poisona on a 1HP/tick poison
People bugging for a PL
Melee jobs crying for a haste
That one person who has the mic too close to their mouth so it sounds like I'm getting a very dirty phone call
The one person who doesn't know that their mic is broken so all you hear is static from them drowning out everyone else
Being yelled out of parties for not speaking in an American accent
That one kid who is always bragging about some absurd story
People who beg for poisona on a 1HP/tick poison
People who beg for a paralyna when the tank is going to die and I can only have the MP for one bloody spell
People bugging for a PL
People who whine when they die mid heal
The people who beg for poisona on a 1HP/tick poison
People bugging to be woke up after a sleepga
People thinking that the voice chat is thier own karaoke machine
Melee jobs crying for a haste
People thinking that other people care about what music they have on
Kids that like to drop racial slurs in every sentence (EDIT: Or swearing every other word so they can be one of the cool kids.)
People bugging to be woke up after a sleepga (EDIT: worth repeating)
People crying that they had to eat a R2 instead of an R3
Melee jobs crying for a haste (EDIT: another worth repeating)
People arguing with each other (EDIT: Whats a ls without drama..../sigh)
People attempting to hit on female players (EDIT: Or cross the line of good taste when talking suggestively.)
People who can't be bothered chew with their mouths closed and turn the mic off when they're eating (EDIT: and coughing when they have a cold or have some type of nervous tick that causes them to tap things or make mouth noises constantly)
That one person who has the mic too close to their mouth so it sounds like I'm getting a very dirty phone call
The one person who doesn't know that their mic is broken so all you hear is static from them drowning out everyone else
That one kid who is always bragging about some absurd story (EDIT: we have one of these in the ls right now....restraint is difficult at times)
People who beg for a paralyna when the tank is going to die and I can only have the MP for one bloody spell
I've endured all of the above (along with Edits ) repeatedly on vent. I'll add to it.....The people who don't know how to work a computer or vent very well and need to be talked through step by step how to fix something....
Also, we have rules but not everyone FOLLOWS THE RULES. And kicking them out isn't an option at important events AND that also creates drama which we don't need. B***hing at them is another way to start drama too and get people pissed off at you. I'll avoid vent as much as humanly possible but there are times I have to endure it and I usually end up with a nasty headache too.

My nyzul team uses Xbox Live chat during our events, and since we all tend to hang out, for most other stuff too and it has actually improved our performance =P
Another thing, how bad is it if me, as a NIN in Caedarva, asks for a Silena? Am I REQUIRED to carry stacks upon stacks of Echoes? I tend to carry a stack at least for emergencies, but just the other day, we had a SMN main healing who just seemed to refuse to silena me, and yet had the balls to bitch about me tanking in a hauby (is that also wrong? I personally dont think so), your thoughts?

No matter how far an ass travels he will never be a horse. Some people are just bad players and no amount of tools you give them will change that.

Unless your healer is retarded, you shouldn't have to tell them you have a negative status effect, unless it's something unfamiliar (like an NM your ls has never fought). If it's been there a while, you might wanna ask, but generally your healer knows.
If he knows and won't do it, he's an asshole. Kick him.

Also, i hate mages that get pissed or complain when they need to or are asked to cast: refresh, paralyna, (insert its a spell your job has access to and its suppose to be cast by you to help other s in your party so STFU AND CAST THE F'ING SPELL!)
