  • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

One of my pet peeves came back to the another forum recently. He's one of those "crusader" types who thinks he can see behind your character and see the real person when he's not even close to right. People who may have honestly been trying to help him out, but no, they're still evil and plotting against him somehow and must be exposed. They'll tell people one thing and then go off-forum to post bullshit about others on thier little blog that no one reads.

Basically, the guy just makes everything about him. That's what makes him both annoying and hilarious. He's too cool for Odin now because when he visited the server twice and "no one helped" him.

Funny, he didn't help anyone, either. FFXI isn't a game where people just drop everything they're doing and come out to help. If people do drop everything and help, show them some appreciation, but don't expect people to do Missions with you at the drop of a hat or anything. Some of us are grown-ups with limited amounts of time and we have things we wish to accomplish as well.

I tried to make that point to him recently, but no, I'm one of those people on his "list" and he instantly requested a thread lock. Sound advice is clearly the new evil.

Well my pet peeve are players who like to act like jerks and are bitchy especially when they're the party leader.

I was in a party last night wanting to lvl my mule (who has no sub) to make her a lil more useful than a pack mule. I got a party invite and ended up in a dd party since there were no healers available. The leader had a PL with her so we thought it was alright also I had my bf there who was lvl 75 rdm (he likes to stalk me in game). The leader seemed quite a nice person at first but I turned out to be wrong. We were deciding what would be best to fight whilst she went around attacking everything in sight to see if we could take them. I suggested doing lizzies since i was lvl 11, but found my self being ignored. Since I got no reply I asked again to which the party leader replied "NO COS THEY'RE TOO WEAK FOR US", I said "ok then >.>" I mention this since it was after this she started to be abit hostile towards me. Her friend /slap me which she seemed to get a kick out of other things happened too.

Well we settled with killing crabs since we lvl synced to lvl 12. She was demanding that my bf give her haste and join in PL which got her annoyed since he said no. All was going good though in party till I got a random /tell off her to which the convo went like this:

PT Leader: I have someone coming to rep you
      Osanpo: wha? why?
      PT Leader: Friend
PT Leader: I dunno what your prob is you got apron and exp
Osanpo: I would like to get to lvl 18 to get my sub
PT Leader: Well that's not my problem

I was so furious I left the party >

An old friend who was in the party also left when he heard what happened and we duoed together and both lvled which cheered me up abit.

Also if she just did that just because I was subless then that's another pet peeve: people who can't be nice and help others. I've put up nasty people in the past but that's first time someones made me so angry.

      rant over >.>
Yeah he was a jerk lol. I'm not sure what level Haste actually starts to work, but I know at levels under 10 it only lasts about 10-20 seconds. I only know this because I had a friend power leveling my SAM back when it was level 4 and he casted it on me and it almost immediately wore off. Any idiot that just runs around attacking random mobs to see how strong they are (Isn't that what /check is for?) needs to have his leader liscence revoked forever.

      • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

Mine right now is mainly because I'm getting pretty jaded right now with the game. Ever since college started the only days I've realistically been able to play FFXi are Friday and Saturday nights. FFXI doesn't work on the college's ResNet along with just about anything else. The only things that are allowed are internet browsers, AIM and MSN. basically the only time I can play FFXI is when i got home to visit my family and get maybe a couple of hours of free time to play the game when I've got all of my assignments done and read up on the subject for the next lecture. Of course all of that relies on me being able to afford the train ticket home which is a completely different matter entirely.

So in the maybe couple of hours I have to play I'm pretty much forced to decide between pointlessly seeking for a party on WHM or farming.

Honestly I don't know what happened to WHM's invite rate but ever since I hit Lv50 the invite rate has been nonexistent. I had to do nothing but camapign for a week to get WHM up to 60 and even when I hit 60 I only ever got 2 invites and i could only accept one as I got one invite just as I was about to log off before work.

There is of course campaign but have you ever tried to play campaign at any time that isn't US primetime? When the JP players are out nobody tanks so if I TRY to do my job I end up spending the rest of the battle as a corpse. UK/EU primetime tends to be mixed since only about 12 people in the UK play FFXI anymore. Then when I finally got to US primetime it's either way too late to stay on or i have to put up with WARS getting 2k a battle from just bashing an NM for 5 mins while I struggle to pass 800 exp an hour because of those annoying WHM NPCs stealing cure exp off me.

Then I could farm. Soloing on anything other than a pet job or BLM is pretty much guaranteed to put me to sleep purely because of how long it takes to kill things. most people spend all day farming but since I can only spend a couple of hours farming the profits are nothing compared to something like spamming HQ Bug Broth Synths and NPCing them. If I do farm I have to put up with high level players who one shot everything in sight instead of going to another zone and leaving some mobs for the people who can't outparse AV. Then there are the RMTs who don't even deserve a rant, then there is always that one SAM/WAR that stalks you and vokes any mob you are about to Flash/Dia pull. Apparently the GMs think this is fine but I got a warning pretty much instantly for MPKing FISHBOTS on the ferry. Then of course there is always that one moronic DRG/WHM who Dia's just about everything in sight then one shots the lot and calls a GM on you if you even thing about taking any of the mobs.

There are teleports but there are so many bots on WG it's ridiculous. Send a shout for a teleport in WG or Jeuno on Kujata and you will get a /tell before your shout appears on your screen.

Then of course there is seeing everyone in your LS accomplishing everything they want to do in the game while you're still trying to borrow, beg, lie. cheat and steal to get your prommy runs done. It just seems that nobody wants a WHM for CoPs anymore. I can name you 3 RDMs and 2 SCHs who were instantly accepted into a CoP perma with only one subjob levelled. It's crap like this that is making me seriously consider quitting WHM and levelling RDM just so I can get into a party for once. it's also why I'm quite possibally the biggest advocate of melee RDM and nuker SCH you will find purely so I can have my job back. I am paying to play a multiplayer FF game. if i wanted to play a single player FF games I would just chose from any of the other 11 in the main series.

It seems most of the time I've just been helping various LS members and various ingame friends with things like AF or BLU spells, heck I've done the RDM and PLD AF3 quests so many times I have specialised macro palettes for each NM fight and I've done the BLU AF3 NM fight so often I could probably solo it. I've spent so much time with BLUs I know exactly which mob will teach me which spell and what level I can learn it despite me still only being a BLU1.

It's not that I don't like helping people. I wouldn't have been a WHM if I didn't genuinely like helping people (That and Clerics/White Mages/Healers in general interesting to roleplay as). it's just I'm getting pretty frustrated seeing myself falling so far behind everyone else ingame especially when it seems to take seemingly no effort for anyone else to say get into a party or a perma for missions. Part of it is making me consider just seriously giving up this game. When it takes about 2 hours in the game to get anything done and I maybe have 4? 5? 6 hours if I'm lucky to play this game per week without it beginning to effect work and college and you see all of your ingame friends pretty much flying so far ahead it's impossible to talk to them most of the time it just makes me feel pretty demoralised and just makes me think "What's the point?"

Sorry about the extended rant, it's not as if I'm expecting anyone to read past the first paragraph. Just feeling pretty jaded with the game and was wondering if it's really worth continuing to play.

            And on that note:

            1) People who will attack you for giving etiquette advice or having any objection to their behavior in inviting/asking you to do something (or even just declining)

            2) Limited range of emotes. Okay, we do get a decent sampling, but it still seems like we get very little opportunity for characters to interact with each other. Cutscenes seem to get a pretty rich variety, and not even in stuff limited to unique characters, but even fairly reasonably generic poses don't make their way back into emote commands. And it's extremely difficult to manage the positioning for something as simple as having two characters sitting next to each other be able to look towards each other...

My bf caste haste on me to see how long it stuck, lasted longer than he thought it would but not long enough to be of any use. Probably lasted about 30-40 secs i think, he told her this and she still made a big fuss about it.

Lol she nearly got us killed at one point, thought I'd expect more from someone who has rank 10 and prolly one or more lvl 75 jobs (I dunno much about later missions and whats needed for them since my highest lvl is 57 pld, rank6).

I'm sorry to say that WHM is considered strictly a second-rate healer at high levels for the lack of refresh. People would much rather have the energizer bunny known as RDM ... their cures tend to be enough, and they have a much easier time with MP management. I'm WHM75, and do a variety of things on that job. I don't get many invites, though I'm almost never /anon...

By the way, they'll love you in various endgame roles, but don't expect too much in the way of help getting there.

The WHM MP management situation is a lot better with WHM/SCH now, at least. Pteryx has had some luck with this. Of course, she also refuses to LFG on RDM anymore because of the extreme dominance of meleeburn (and the outright hostility she receives from those she turns down on the basis of not wanting meleeburn parties).

Actually, frankly, I think there probably is no bigger pet peeve to bring up than this: the HUGE xp/hr disparity between traditional and meleeburn party methods. Meleeburn already has a lot going for it just in terms of the disproportionate popularity of the DD role, and a lot of people who hate the playstyle with a passion (whether or not they participate anyway for the massive xp) would find it a lot less egregious and less of an imposition on them if it wasn't the only source of 'reasonable' (or hell, non-ridiculous at this point) xp returns on time invested.

I don't know if eliminating the disparity would be enough to bring trad parties back, given the particularly dysfunctional way the community operates now, but it'd be the single biggest thing that could be done to help that become possible. I think the fact that so many meleeburn-capable jobs turn to campaign for their xp/merits is at least in some ways a sign of discontent with the meripo status quo and not just pro-solo/anti-party sentiment.

I was in besieged today and managed to capture a hilarious /shout match. Basically me and our party's RDM got tired of people randomly shouting for stuff like Cursna or Paralyna without even giving a location. This is what happened when we finally snapped:

Sorry about the large file size in advance. I linked to the thumbnail to keep things dial-up friendly.

The person at the top who did the shout was perfectly fine. They gave a simple shout and stated their location so people with raise know where the corpse is. The others were just well stupid to put it bluntly and having to sit through about half an hour of random shouts took it's toll on our party.

Things like that are usually why I filter out shouts when in ToaU areas XD

So yeah, thought I'd get some exp on Blu, got into a level sync party that just really blows.

2x whm, 2x nin, thf, blu.

I'm not expecting awesome exp, but I thought it could be fun and why not?

Well, the two ninjas are running around like chickens with their heads cut off, one of them is constantly going afk. Oh yeah, and one of them is a DD Ninja!

Awesome I think! It's about time I saw some Shuriken spammage again! Except he doesn't use any, doesn't use anything beyond Utsu: Ichi, and so like, yeah... WTF is the point in a DD Ninja at lvl 32 if he doesn't use those?

Our Thf is good, our 2x whm are good, the ninjas suck and make it almost impossible to land SA+Spell or SATA+Viper Bite.

Oh, and to top it off. Our Thf pulls a bat. One of our ninjas (our first Provoker no less) is afk for about 20 seconds of the fight, and we had moved forward a bit in order to fight. It's obvious he's gone afk without letting us know. I get tired of waiting and get behind the bat so that I can use SA+Claw Cyclone, the nin finally comes back from being afk, and starts going after me for standing between him and the bat, right after he came running up behind me.

                                Yeesh.
                                ______________________________
Oh, and after I gave them my needing to leave in 15 minutes, one of the Ninjas and Whms DC'd immediately. Methinks he was playing both characters.

Of course this was mid fight, and he timed it so that he'd either leave us high and dry, or we'd finish off the last 1/5 hp of the bat's health before he logged. The only reason we did was because the Thf was able to SATA+VB it.

Still though, shitty thing to do leaving your party like that just because one person has to go. If you are going to lead a party grow some (probably not mod friendly). Don't try to camp on top of other people, and look at what spots are open before leaving town. This guy not only wanted to camp on top of another party in the weapon camp, but ignored the fact that the Citadel was empty.

                                /sigh

It might be time for me to build my own parties again. I can't stand idiots normally, but I simply cannot abide having an idiot in charge.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.
