  • Re: What's your pet peeve in FFXI?

This Wednesday marks the 3rd consecutive time we cancelled a Dynamis run due to low attendence. The LS I'm in has competent leadership and we generally win when we're going for it, but we've had a SEVERE lack of attendence lately.

Those things happen. I still get points just for being there, so I don't really care. It's like getting points for doing nothing, and we save money in the LS bank. (I hate Northlands, by the way).

What pisses me off though is that ever since I started going to Dynamis as PLD, There's only been 2 other PLDs there. Yet, I checked the site to see who lotted PLD gear (to see who has what points and my competition on a specific piece of gear... Looks like I have a good chance of getting some Relic hands >_>) and there are a total of 8 active members who have lotted on the damn gear.

I understand that people with multiple jobs have to possibly get in where they fit in for that particular run, but I just think it's lame to be out-lotted by someone on BRD or something that has more points than me.

The good news is that just because they are an active member, doesn't mean they'll be at the specific run. :-D

We needed a bit more support as it was ~2:00am EST and most of my ls was asleep. He didn't ask directly anyway and just came out. Another one of our friends asked on his behalf.

So well over 75% of the time you're catering to the grunts while the jobs you need get nothing and start looking for shells that will place a degree of priority to mages/support/tanks and be fair about it.

Its also a tad early to fully integrate Zenis into any LS. Most tier I and IIs you can do on pick-ups with ease and "your pop, your drop" is the rule of the day. Tier III and IV need more organization than a pick up and hardly anyone has done Tier Vs yet. This is one to wait and see on. All I do know is any LS that dares to try to implement a point system on Zenis is playing with fire.

Finally, you're an officer - damned if you do, damned if you don't. All my leader/officer experiences boil down to this. At some point you have to make the hard decisions that make you look like an asshole or you'll be accused of something with no basis for it. Comes with the territory.
Yeah everyone and their mother wants to spam Omega and I constantly get spammed with 'When is next Omega??' and 'Why are we doing Temenos??', when I have no jobs that can use Homam, and as a shell we've done 12 Omegas vs. 2 Ultimas. After waiting months for the 2 Nashira pieces I'm in line for, I've developed what I call the 'BISS System'.

        It works like this:

Melee1: Hurrr why are we doing Temenos?? I want teh Homamz!!
Me: Because I said so. We have mages too. Shut up.

Melee2: Hurrr why are we doing Jeuno, that doesn't drop what I want!!
Me: Because I said so. People need clearance. Shut up.
Ok, so maybe I have yet to officially launch the BISS program. However, I have started not telling anyone what zone we're doing for Limbus ahead of time, I've found it helps with people skipping zones they don't want to do. And if we notice a melee skipping Temenos often, I'll say it's Temenos then we'll do a surprise Omega without them.

Mini-peeve of mine: Shells that cancel their runs b/c they're low on members. This shell that some of our members are in for Thursday runs cancels if they have like 20 or less. If we have more than 12 we always enter, and can clear pretty much every city with that, I think 14 is our record low for Glacier clearance, with 16 we cleared the full NM court and reached Animated shield.

Another shell accused us of 'stealing' a Bastok because we had members there first and they were waiting until they had 35+ to enter(their words literally). They said we were holding the zone b/c we entered with 12...we only brought 18 total that night and mopped the floor with the zone.

My point is that I don't doubt that your shell has competent leadership/players, so they should be more willing to take a zone on with less, especially if it's a run for clearance, and even if not we've had 10+ relics drop on a lowmanned zone before, it's worth at least giving it a shot.

Why should it matter what job they're on for that run? If they have the job leveled then they have the job leveled.

I can see where WM3K is coming from, actually. In my old LS I was 2nd in line for RDM hat for about 4-5 months, and once the LS leader quit the game I was the shell's main RDM for nearly a year. And by main RDM I mean I was responsible for practically every important RDM duty in Dynamis, I had to direct the pulls, keep the puller alive, and handle crowd control. All of a sudden several people leveled RDM to 75 who had more points than me, most of them had severely gimped RDM gear and never came RDM to any events...yet they all got placed ahead of me in line for the hat, I got bumped to 9th in line in a month's time. The main reason I wasn't higher in line was because a freaking 70 RDM made me spend 95% of my points for the body piece that they weren't even able to use yet.

If I had to lose out on a chance for the RDM hat, it'd be nice if it was to people who actually played RDM, not just people who wanted 1 single piece of RDM AF to look sweet on their mannequin.

Spoken like someone who wants to be able to lot on a job they don't show up as.

[Edit: Cal Ninja'd my reply, but ty for understanding the postion. Reasons like that are why I'm not bothering with RDM Relic. So many people are RDM75 in the LS, and I NEVER see them on RDM even if I run by them in passing. All of a sudden, the LS Career MNK wants to dump 150 into RDM Hat, when they have 450 or something... It's jus not fucking right to the person that only has RDM and shows up twice a week to get beat on by mobs.

That's hypothetical tho. The PLD in my LS are awesome, and the mages never die.]

Priority should be given to the people who show up as a job. I don't expect to get RDM Relic any time this millenium. I've more or less given up on it.

In fact, it's completely feasible that if you get in a bid war with someone, and let them win, then they lose all their points and you have double or triple their amount. I'm hoping to do that with the PLD body >_> But we're never going to Xarc it seems.

The only drawback is that if two of the Relic drops (lololololololloololll) then your plan backfires.

And I'm going to suggest to the leader that he doesn't announce what Dynamis we're doing until the day of and to just start going in with 20.

I understand the incentive to play it safe, though. EVERYONE has to bring their A game. I actually trust my Dynamis shell to perform, though.

Honestly you just need 3 things to be consistent:

                1) A puller who knows the routes well.

                2) A crowd controller(RDM or BLM) who knows when to Sleep and when to let the puller kite.

                3) People who don't make silly mistakes like resting when the train is coming through.

These days it seems anything can be low-manned if people know what they're doing, hell even the new ZNMs people were shaving the #'s needed from 10 to 6 to 2 within 24 hours.

My old shell had a cap on the number of points you could take with you if you changed your mainlot. Seemed like a needless, punk rule at the time, if you've contributed more to the shell and recieved less that's all that should matter I thought, but I guess I can see the rationale now.

I come to dynamis as WHM all the time. Does that mean I can't lot DRG? I mean, I never play it because I don't use it at dynamis right?

It sounds like you have a crappy dynamis system more than anything.

Once when I did a Xarc, someone there had just leveled DRG to 75. It was one of the two jobs they picked for the run, and so they could have won it if it fell. It would have sucked to not win it, sure... but it wouldn't have really bothered me... because that is a system I chose to be a part of and I knew what the rules were going in.

Yeah, exceptions do need to be made for WHMs, BLMs, and BRDs, because many times in Dynamis they will be asked to go that even if it's not their main job. In my case it had been WARs who would never come RDM b/c they liked being able to engage and afk instead of needing to actually contribute to Dynamis. :/

Wouldn't this be solved by people declaring a main that they want to lot Relic gear for? I don't mean declaring it at the beginning of each run, but making a decision that the points they're accumulating are going towards gear for X job. This would allow people to get gear for their main while showing up as whatever job the LS needed. It also eliminates the need for having exceptions for some jobs.

It would indeed. The problems that come from that are the greedfucks with 7 jobs that want priority gear for all of them, at least in my experiences. Also the problems are dealing with people hopping over to a new 'main' when they level up a different job, but I suppose a point reduction could remedy that.

At any rate I've found that making a 100% fair points system(or any drop system for that matter) is pretty much impossible, mostly due to the rarity of Dynamis drops. All I know is in my current shell first hat is mine and not much else matters outside of that, lol. I just make every run, lead people to wins/relics, and hope it drops sooner than later.

No, it should be possible, the problem is that too many people think that fair is the same as 'I get what I want when I want it.'

In my ls, the last hat went to a guy that played rdm fairly often.....when he was on. You'd not see him for months and then he'd hear we were doing Xarc and there he was! (On Midgard getting Xarc in prime time is HORRENDOUS!) So he wasn't around for 3 months or so and boom there he was and then the hat dropped. He got the hat and immediately announced he was quitting rdm. Sure enough, he's on thf whenever he does come to events now. So that awesome hat that could be of benefit to the ls is siiting in his storage. YAY! F**KER Unfortunately our lotting system is the whim of the sacs and I was told "he's a long time member and passed it once for someone else so he deserves it". He deserves to put it in storage....ya that sure helps the ls!

Ya low man dynamis is great and all but only if you have COMPETENT PLAYERS. I find it questionable to do sometimes in my ls when we have low numbers. We recently had many long time member quit and got a whole slew of people who changed servers. I've not been very impressed. If you have good players (and this includes no afkers and people who watch the game not the tv), then I say go for it because its fun. Dynamis gets old after a while but low man just puts a little bit of the spark back into it.
