Re: Which system is the best to play ffxi on?
It's your own preference. Do you own all three?
The PlayStation 2 version of the game is the original. It was released in May of 2002. Naturally, because it is both the oldest and made for the least capable platform, the visual quality is noticeably lower. The PS2 is not a high-definition gaming system, so playing the game in standard 640x480 can be a little harsh if you're a graphics-buff.
The PC version was released in November of 2002, and is the most widely used in the United States. I would say that this version is the most convenient if you have a capable gaming PC, mainly because most every MMO, with the exception of FFXI, has been originally made for the PC. With graphics-tweaks and a powerful PC, it can also be the best looking of the three.
The Xbox 360 version of the game was released just last this April, and requires a Hard Disk Drive attachment for your 360. As it runs on a much more powerful console than the PS2, it is much better looking, rivaling the PC version in many aspects. It also runs in 720p resolution, so the high-definition visuals are much easier on the eyes. And just so you know, the Xbox 360 version of the game is cheapest, costing only $39.99-$49.99 for the original game and all three expansions.
In the end, it's really all about your personal preference like I originally said. If you own all three platforms, however, I'd highly suggest PC.PSN ID - PaiPai Gamertag - PaiPaiMaster Steam ID: Pai Pai Master

Originally posted by Telal$39.99-$49.99 for the game, but how much for the HDD?
for $19.99 you get the game and 2 expansion, for the pc release.
For the PS2 the HDD if very hard to find unless you look online, and that costs about $99.99
If you have a computer that meets the requirements i would say stick with the PC.....I fire up the grill.

For 360? If you didn't get the premium package I think its like 100 dollars. But I can't recall actually seeing the individual HDD for sale ever, so can't say for sure. For ps2 you're going to have to have one of the old model ps2's, and then find an HDD somehwere. And didn't they only have the HDD and game bundled together? No other way to get it? That will probably also cause some problems with getting valid keys and everything. I think your best bet there is Ebay.I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2

Re: Which system is the best to play ffxi on?
Ok, if you have a good computer go for the PC version! With the graphical tweaks you cna run it at crazy settings. My Background res is 2048x2048 and my normal res is 1600x1200! Then I have my draw distance on 6 which is as high as i can have it. Plus for PC there are also many mods and such like .Dat files to customize your game! But if you dont have a great computer, and i dont mean 1500$ uber pc, just a good prossesor a gig of ram and a newer graphics card you will be able to run it great! Only think you may have to change is the ingame settings for shadows and weather, it lags me in town or around many people with what ever settings. So just do what you like to play on, but i say pc ftw!

As you can see your PC is FAR superior to my setup, so I am sure you will be happy with the results.

I actually own 2 copies (one for me and one for my wife), we just haven't installed yet because we are in the process of buying a house, and want to be able to fully enjoy our first 30 days

Re: Which system is the best to play ffxi on?
if you scroed 4k on the benchmark, and by those specs I would go with PC version, PS2 version is hard to deal with now if you are just trying to get into it, and I could not buy a 360 just to play FFXI, since you would need to get the $400 360 with the HDD in it :p-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Which system is the best to play ffxi on?
PC is can achieve the highest graphical results, but you will never have an FPS steadier than on the 360.
FFXI must've been ported to PC in a really shitty manner, because it lags on my $1300 PC. (in Dynamis, FPS as low as 3.)
Also, even if I have it on lowest settings possible, to the point where it looks so bad anything on the screen is barely recognizable, I still get the same FPS.

Re: Which system is the best to play ffxi on?
I think you should go for a PC version, mainly because you use the PC for so many more things than just to play the game, like checking out quests, etc.
I got the Vana'Diel Collection, and I love it with a big L. Cheap and awesome!!
