  • Treasures of Aht Urhgan for Newbies?

    Hello All!

This is my first post. I have been playing FFXI for about a month and a half now and am loving every minute of it. I installed the Vana'diel collection so I have everything but Treasures of Aht Urghan. I plan to keep playing for along time.

So here is my question: Does the Aht Urghan expasion have anything to offer a lvl 25, Rank 3 newbie like myself? Should I get it now or wait until I have explored everything that Zilart and Promatia have to offer? I am very interested in everyones opinion.

    Thanks!

Not really. When you hit 30 you'll be able to unlock COR BLU and PUP, but the areas in Aht Urghan are mainly geared towards 60+.

It's really up to you. If you want one of the expansion jobs, then it would be in your best interests to buy the expansion. If not, you can probably put it off for a while.

Yeah, unfortunately, all you can really do is get the 3 jobs there at level 30. All of the exp areas, assault, besieged, etc., is geared toward level 60+.

Re: Treasures of Aht Urhgan for Newbies?

As Aelathir said, the new jobs are about the only low-level content for now. I don't know what Chocobo Breeding will be like in that respect.

Assault requires level 50, and Besieged is pretty much worthless unless you're 60+.

The expansion is geared towards high-level players primarily, so focus on getting up there, and then check out the expansion, unless you're considering playing on of the new jobs.

          Almost forgot....

Although I highly doubt it, if you ever take up BLM, don't participate in besieged unless you just want to level enfeebling magic. Moreover, the exp spots aren't blm friendly unless you manaburn, so yeah. ><

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like I should probabally wait, which is fine because I know I have alot of exploring left to do with the content that I have. I did want to dive alittle bit further into the issue of chocobo breeding though. Do you need Aht Urghan to do it?

Perhaps. We don't really know just yet. You may need it in order to obtain the items yourself, but it's possible that you won't need it to participate.

Then again, you may need it for the whole shebang, but none of us know for sure right now.

Well, all of the guilds are represented in Aht Urhgan, not to mention some interesting merchants. You might find a shopping or crafting trip there most interesting.

Re: Treasures of Aht Urhgan for Newbies?

Also, keep in mind that game stores don't usually keep expansions to games in stock for very long, as the demand for them is fairly niche compared to that of a brand new game. Game companies most likely also don't make as big of a production run of these expansions for the same reason.

So, what I'm trying to say is, yes, you can wait, since you've still got a ways to go. If the expansion interests you though, don't wait -too- long, or it might be difficult to find a copy of it.

Yes, however, I agree with everyone. Enjoy the areas you have, work on building your character up (and most importantly, have fun ^^). As you get closer to 50-60, you might wanna start thinking about it. The expansion's quite fun once your familiarity grows, and the fear-of-the-unknown wears off.

On Chocobo Raising: Like everyone else, I'm not certain whether it requires the expansion or not. However, there -is- a chocobo stable, guild, or racing track type building in Aht Urghan, whose NPC says that they're closed for an indeterminate amount of time. I'm kind of guessing this is where the magic takes place... or perhaps it's a stables of sorts that you can rent to store your own chocobo?

Anyway, I believe I heard an interview/announcement that said (paraphrasing)
'Right now you can't ride your chocobo everywhere, but if demand is high enough, we'd consider implementing it' ... if this is true, and I'm NOT remembering falsely (it happens, so if I'm wrong, someone please correct me), then raising your chocobo would be for the sole purpose of the Choco-Racetrack... so if that ends up in Al Zahbi, then yeah, you're probably going to need the expansion for that. Until they implement it though, we can't be certain.

Sorry for my great ramble there, but welcome to the game, and happy playing!

I have been playing for 4 months and my main blm is 57, while ToAU is a great expansion i have not done much there exept for besidged, unlocking pup, some random quests, and the ToAU story line (so far even a lvl 1 could solo the storyline, so its not much of an acomplishment till SE unlocks more). hopefuly when i get to a higher lvl i can do assault, xp in ToAU and do the rest of the ToAU storyline.

You are almost at the lvl where you can start xping in ToAU. In fact, you could probally start xping there right now.

Too bad lesser colibri seem to have incredibly high magic defense so people (me at least ) pick melees over blms at that level.

Some of my LS members have exp'd there as early as 55, so he really shouldn't have any trouble.

Ahrt Urhgan has more to offer high levels than anything else...however you can get the 3 unlockable jobs at lvl 30(be prepared to do lots of sneaking) and there are lots of guild shops to buy stuff in. Choboco rasing is still an unknown factor, but thanks to today's post on POL.com we now know that you'll be able to summon your Choboco to anywhere using a magic item similar to the "Signal Pearl" used to call the NPC buddy[I was hoping they'd do that].(questable at lvl 40 and rank 5)
