  • Old player, have a question

    hello everyone,

I used to play FFO a long time ago when it 1st came to the US, I was thinking about comming back but have hit a snag.

I saved all my passwords and all but they wont work, and when I try to sign up for a new registration account with my play online registration code that will not work eather.

I looked on the faq and found this:

"If you return to PlayOnline three months after unsubscribing, you must register a new PlayOnline account. This means you must purchase a new copy of the software to obtain a new set of registration codes"

Now please please please tell me I don't have to go out and buy another copy of Final Fantasy Online, to be able to play again?

    Thanks for any help guys

      Ha ha ha,

All I have to say is wow, I buy the game X many years ago for X amount of money and now square is telling me to go buy it again lol

      Thanks but no thanks

Why can't they be like all the other MMo's out there and make it so once you buy the game make an account you could be gone 10 years and still have your toon on the server, if you ever felt the need to play again.

well thanks anyway for the info, mabey down the line i'll grab it for ps2, or x360

Nightscar, contact POL via phone and explain the situation to them.

A little known secret (well widely known now with the Welcome Back campaign) is that your character data is stored for extensive periods. At the very least they can de-associate your gamecodes with the account so you can make a new POL account.

Ty I will try that, but still the thing I don't understand is why ...

why charge more to have more then one toon ...

why make it so if you don't re-register before 3 months you have to buy the game again ...

why when ever single mmo other then FFO lets you make more then one toon, lets your toon sit on the server for as long as the game is alive ect ...

          I just don't understand it.

Next time, delete your Content IDs without cancelling your POL account - the account itself is free, it's the Content IDs that bill you.

I quit for a year, logged right back in, re-activated my old IDs and picked up where I left off.

P.S. If you don't want to restart now, wait 'til the next "Come back to Vanadiel" promotion or whatever, they ressurrect old accounts for free and even give you another free month's play.

yea POL account itself is free and unless you cancel it yourself, it should be there forever. Content ID is what you pay for and cancelling content ID will not affect your POL account, they are 2 seperate things.

If you're been long gone, buying a new copy isn't bad tho. There's collection edition with the expansion bundles together in a single DVD. It saves a lot of install and patch time.

News flash... SE is not the only company that does this, all MMOs have a time period in where you MIGHT loose your charater info if you quit

Re: Old player, have a question

They charge for extra toons because every character can be any job.

On other games, you get 1 job. That's it.

So the multiple characters make up for that.

Re: Old player, have a question

You should of never never cancelled the account it self(even in the pol manual it is free, and you have 3 months to reactivate it)
All you had to do was cancel the content ids (inwhich you would have had twelve months before they were deletd)

1.Alot of mmos give you only a certain amount of characters (ex. EQ2 you can buy extra slots[you get 2])

                    2. You didn't have to (your fault here, should of read)

                    3. Actually most mmos have the same policy, although most are too lazy to do it (your fault here)

They charge to make extra characters so that people don't make extra characters frivilously. The only character traits set in stone are race and gender when you create them. Every character can do every quest and mission and can become every job, so there's little reason to have more than one character. Accounts are closed and characters are deleted after so long without being billed so that there is room for new characters. As the Xbox 360 beta showed, the FFXI servers have a maximum number of characters they can have registered to them, so instead of paying money to maintain more servers to store data that people aren't even paying for anymore and may never use, they delete it after a reasonable amount of time, because most people that quit are not likely to come back again.

Do they give you a warning when you delete your POL account that you can't reactivate it? If they don't, they should.
