    Re: Ffxi Pc, 360

yes you can make an account with the JP version of the game and still access your account on an english install, but if you start an account on JP version, you can only upgrade your account with JP versions of expansions, now.... your best bet owuld be to just choose one system to play on, since you ahve a 360 I would go with thtat since it is easyer to move around then a PC (most of the time)

P.S. if you install JP version, all NPCs and story and menus will be in JP as well, but you can type in both english and Japanese to other players.

When you rent something, usually there is an up-front cost. I don't know how old you are, but when you rent, say, an apartment, you typically pay 1-3 months rent up-front plus a security deposit which is another month. To rent a $900 apartment can cost $3000+ up front.

As for buying multiple copies of the game, it's the way the game is licensed. When you buy the PC version, you pay for the development of the PC version. When you buy the X360 version, you pay for the development of the X360 version. The monthly fees cover the recurring costs of providing the bandwidth, servers (which apparently get upgraded alot), the facility the servers are stored in, and the people who maintain them, along with the developers who continue to design new content and introduce chocobo raising and fellowship NPC's and skimpy swimsuits for the female elvaans (rrawr). The cost of buying the game pays for the initial development, the programmers, the design team that created the models for sexy female elvaans (rrawr) and all of the other "already done" stuff. The game ships playable and reliable out of the box, and your buying the game pays the people that made that happen.

At least FFXI when it was released in the US was pretty much a nailed down tweaked and non-glitchy product. How many MMO's have I tried that basically shipped unplayable and they STILL made you pay.. World War II Online anyone?

mmm think you forgot to mention the sexy female elvaans :p

anyway, yeah downloading FFXI is against the law, only time you can download games like that, is if the company itself allows it. 60$ for the game and all expansions in really not aloot, and nor is 13$ a month for a very nce game.

You're not buying full rights to the software. You are buying a license to use the software on that platform. Technically, if you want to play on a different platform or in another language, you need to buy another license to use that other version of the software. They can also make your software useless to you by revoking your license for the software and deleting the account.

Of course, only Xbox 360 requires the disc in the system to play, so for PS2 (since I have a JP PS2 account and I always buy PS2 expansions from Japan since I use Japanese for sommunication and have plenty of friends in the US that play on PC and PS2) I buy the Japanese discs, borrow the US discs from friends to install to my US PS2, and borrow US PC discs from friends and make disk images and copies of the discs and then return them to my friends. It's technically undetectable that I'm not buying all of that software, but they have no real copy protection on the PC discs, and no requirement to provide the original disc on PS2, so I can get away with it.
