Um...it's the same game played on the same servers as the PS2 and PC. And yeah...I think just about everyone here will tell you to play FFXI because, well, their obviously FFXI fans.

I'll give you my opinion though, considering I'm mostly against the ropes with MMOs right now, pretty much bored of what the market has to offer and am considering coming back to FFXI.

FFXI is an interesting game, but the in-game progression is very slow and the fact that a lot of equipment is bought and can be expensive always gives the game a sort of a "I wish I could be better but it's either have fun or farm." IMO, the biggest draw back isn't waiting for parties, which can be a problem, especially if you have a busy schedule, but it's having to farm. Money doesn't come easy in FFXI and it can constantly feel like a burden. That and combined with the fact that you can spend many hours in FFXI trying to obtain something yet gain nothing, perhaps even lose a bit, can really leave a frustrating taste in your mouth.

Regardless, FFXI has one of the best MMO worlds I've seen. It feels fluid, life-like, and mesmerizing. It's a shame the game is made with consoles in mind, meaning we do not have a seamless world and graphics (especially for the PC) are not as optimal as they could be this day an age.

However, when FFXI is good, it's good. Missions are very cool if you can get a good group of people with you. Partying is a relaxing change of pace from other MMOs, despite idiot groups.

My one big disappointment with FFXI is that Square just seems to be reluctant to change things. Class balancing take forever and are usually minute changes that don't really seem to affect the game a whole lot. The interface could use some major changes but there has yet to be much change to it.

My advice: If you cannot frequently sit down and play at least 2-4 hours at a time, then FFXI may not be a great choice for you. However, if you've seen what MMOs have to offer and are looking for a group oriented game, you may want to look here. Otherwise, FFXI can be a so-so starting MMO. It's not horrible as a starter (it was mine) but I can't really say it's the most representative MMO out there as FFXI is mostly a PvE game with some minor PvP thrown in.

If you've already played FFXI, then sorry...yeah, the 360 version is the same thing.

While I do love this game, I'll agree that the pacing is terrible. Its basically a ratio of 5 hours farming+ 10 hours exp grinding for 3 hours of fun.

Well the entire nature of the majority of MMORPG's are that it takes time......a lot of time. It was only until recently that some MMORPG's broke the mold to a point. When you hit endgame in WoW, you'll run into where it takes chunks of time to do certain things. (Never fails trying to get groups of people together is maddening. Some people just don't listen!) But in the end you'll always have grind and a large time investment into a MMO. They really are for a certain group of people. Its like trying to get someone that loves racing games to play The Sims. You just have to like the genre in order to enjoy it fully.

Just like any other MMORPG, this game is no different: it's a grind fest. However, when you get into the higher levels, you have access to more stuff to do, besides grind, and once you reach level 75, the game REALLY begins to pick up with Z missions, CoP, you name it!

hahaha you got it right on the nose :p

if I where to look at FFXI as a PS2 game (what it was designed for)

Gameplay: 4/5 (could have been over all faster but its still good)
Graphics: 4/5 (very good and best for a MMO)
Story: 5/5 (counting all stories for all expansions)
Sound 5/5 (got to love Nobuo Uematsu)
