... you need to be good at it, or you're going to be locked out from joining up with the best players (speaking from personal experience, if you aren't with the best, you're with the rest, and the difference in quality of game experience between those two is extreme, to say the least).

Sorry Icemage, I don't think I can quite see eye to eye with you on this one, although I'm sure we have very different interpretations on what constitutes quality gameplay.

I've never been part of an HNMLS, Dynamis LS etc simply because I don't really have the time. I've been playing semi-casually with my social LS (who also are in the same boat as me) and we've progressed through Zilart, CoP and the main city missions without ever touching HNMs or anything that requires extreme amounts of concentration for up to six hours at a time, or anything that requires you to set time aside from your daily activities to be online at an appointed time at the whim of your LS.

Consequently we are seperated from the people I suppose you would term the 'best' - my name is not known amongst any of the NA on Gilgamesh, nor any of the JP (even though due to my location I play only in JP primetime), EU ... no one apart from my LS and maybe one or two other people. So I guess that puts me with 'the rest'. But my quality of gameplay is far from rubbish. Sure I don't have the best items in the game, and some of those good items are inaccessible to me unless I go kill Sky Gods, Three Kings, Wyrms etc, but I still have tons of fun with what I can do.

I know you probably weren't making a distinction that solid, because 99.9% of the time your posts are intelligent and take most things into consideration, but surely the fact that I'm not with 'the best' doesn't mean that the quality of my enjoyment in the game is crap?

About 2 weeks ago, my HNMLS denied a person who had BRD and WHM at 75. He has CoP and RoTZ complete, and is on Chapter 8 of ToAU. All we posted was, "Sorry, your reputation preceeds you, rejected."

He is known as being one of the most whiny, gimp, unskilled, and inconsiderate players on our server. I'm not going to name him, but pretty much anyone on Ragnarok knows who this is. I kind of feel bad for the guy, then he posts things on forums begging for forgiveness, then makes the same mistakes, without the promise of improving anything. :/

I bet i know who this person is... does the name start with Demon and end in matt?

I've partied with this person, hes not... horrible. But definitly needs to change his style and attitude if he wants anything to do with HNMLS.

That said, I think it's universally considered bad form to ask for money for a raise, but also courteous to offer a reward after the fact.

The fact that RMTs will usually raise your dead ass for free speaks volumes about legitimate players charging (or demanding gratuity) for a raise. If you're in the area, why not? It's not like someone is asking you to travel from Limbus all the way to Arrapago Reef to give them a raise...

As a whm, I stand at the back casting my spells and keeping quiet while the melees all whoop and holler about how much damage they are doing, especially if they can pull hate off the tank (because that really shows how skilled they are), compare their uber gear, and bitch and whine when a skillchain or something gets messed up. As far as I'm concerned, the less a party notice that I'm there the better a job I'm doing as generally you only really notice support mages when they do something wrong.
Most of the whms I've encountered while playing other jobs have been the quietest members of the party too.

I'm sorry if your friend is an ass, maybe you should choose them more carefully.

Not only that, but after they claim your NM with bots they'll D2 you if you ask nicely.

i never charge for raise. but then again, i don't always accept raise request.

charge or not isn't the factor for me. if im not in the middle of something, I'll always raise.

It's strange, but last year when I leveled WHM to 65, I didn't get any strange or unusual Raise or PL requests. I very rarely go anon, so I wonder what that's all about?

I think the strangest (and it's not even that strange) was being asked to raise another party's WHM in the jungles. Which I was happy to do once we finished our chain.

I've found by and large most people are basicly nice and courtious regarding pting and other activities regardless of their job, but there are a few that feel the game is all about them. I've played whm and thf and I work with the party regardless of the job. That said people treat others different depending on their job. It doesn't make me a better or worse player when I log one job vs another.

I've noticed I'm treated better by other players if I'm whm since it's higher demand, but I'm the same player for both jobs. The item that irritated me the most in a pt was in the dunes as thief. The level diference had reached 3 so I was asked to leave pt, but 3 others dropped and he asked me to stay. When we had 5 members I resumed pulling vt's while waiting for the final member to keep xp going. Midpull I got kicked a replacement for me was found while going through. That pt lead was a prick and he was running a fighter class rather than a mage.

Now that was just wrong..dead wrong..I hate party leaders like that.

Again just because a job is in higher demand doesnt mean that you have to give that person the red carpet..

thats what annoys me the most with some wht mages they think that they are the cream of the crop...when its funny to me anyway because I would rather take two redmages anyday..

I did speak to my buddy as a result of this post and he thought that I blasted him and put him out there even tho i didnt mention any names .. as a result he no longer wants to
static now.. I guess I am holding him back..

WELL if you read my post I never said that all whms are jackasses never once.. I did say that most of them are stuck on themselves including my friend.

I also said that I have encountered some who where kewl, so that is not going back and forth.
Its just stating how I see it. its my 2 gils.. you dont have to agree with me on it because maybe you have nevered encountered it.

This post isnt just about my friend , its about the truth that most white mages are stuck on themselves.. I said most I didnt say they all where..if that is a contradiction then so be it.

Maybe the back and forth is because when someone else post it makes me stop and think if I am being too hard on my buddy and other white mages.

So, you've met most of the white mages on your server, and are thus qualified to make a blanket statement about them?

There's really a very simple way to keep from offending people in this kind of situation. Instead of making a massive generalization based on your meager personal experiences, simply talk about those experiences. You don't know whether most white mages are stuck on themselves, because you don't know most white mages. But you do know whether most of the white mages you've met have seemed stuck on themselves (remember: text is a poor medium for conveying emotion). Just say that, and you won't be ruffling anyone's feathers. At least, not anyone reasonable.

Hmm... I think WHM should start sending tells to melee to kill stuff for them, you know, the same way melee do.


Intead of:
