  • Besieged and Melee types

Ok so i have done like...3 or 4 besieged events now all as brd. And admitidly in the first one i tried to actually attack a mob (figured what they hell). Now the first one was before the thing where they limited the number of people so that was kinda boring (all i saw was xxxx casts firaga III xxxx cast firaga III..you get the idea) and then it was over. By the time i actually drew my sword the mob was dead. Now i have done a couple after the fix, still as brd, but this time only singing, and for brds out there, for me at least, to get the 700 points you need to cast a few offensive spells.

Anyway, i am still having issues with lag and i cant imagine doing this event as a melee type, i mean i have all the filters on and all the effects off and yet i still dont always see the mobs, so how do you guys target or even hit them?

    Re: Besieged and Melee types

Sometimes some of your smarter melee types will /shout an /assist macro for you to use, allowing you to target thier mob. From there, you simply attack and hope for the best. Another method is to run around, hitting F8, and latching onto the first mob that you pick up. More than likely, there's quite a few people on it whacking away, you just won't (or in this case, can't) see them.

Going melee in Besieged is much like the classic TV, movie, and literature examples of large scale battles: when you draw your weapon and attack, you and your target are all that exists in the world; everything else fades away and you lose yourself in the battlefield.

At least, it seems that way to me.

Hehe, his is the most romantiziced description of lag I've ever seen. Although you forgot to mention how at times everything freezes (dramatic pause) just to blurr into a fast forward action secuence all Matrix-like.

Seriously though, I don't like the fact that even though Besieged is so much like Dynamis most people (including Dynamis veterans) fight it like it's an xp camp, everyone is attacking every mob and parties don't even bother to alliance to make the defense more efective.

And IF you mention /assist most people will just ignore it and keep trying to solo a mob since there's no xp penalty.

I was under the impression that level 50's could participate in besieged.

        Yea, uh, no.

Miss, Miss, Miss, 0, Miss... ad infinitum. This was at level 59, eating food, with +27 ACC on. Totally hurt my self-esteem.

It's even like that at Lv75 sometimes. I've cast Banish III with capped Divine Magic skill, an extra 35 MND or so for 3 points of damage very frequently.

Acording to POL the invading army's strength depends on the forces they have, what I don't know is if this also affects their lvl. Aparently the best way to reduce their forces is doing lots of Assault missions.

But I wonder how many missions/beastman killed you need to really have an impact...

An invading force's strength is also impacted by the number of archaic mirrors they have in their base, which people on Lakshmi don't bother killing sometimes.

I Joined my first besieged the other day And as a Summoner I must say Ramuh rocks for this . His AOE thunder/para BP will hit MANY baddies in the area and actually paralyze em. Casting raise2 and diaga also helps alot I found. I enjoyed it it was lagy but actually quite fun to.

A friend got like 375 xp/IS from being mid 50s thf abusing SA to land hits. I think at the end he didn't even end up with enough TP for a weaponskill. Not sure how besiged assigns xp... Another friend goes as mid 50s Sam/Thf for the same thing, meditate, and sneak attack.

I think that the more times the beastman army loses, the stronger they come the next time. When less people start turning up to Besieged you'll see the difficulty go down with it (I think).

This is true. Once a server loses the Asteral Candysence, the enemy who took it remains at 150%, untill uoi get it back. Then they drop down to 0%, not 75%, and besieged starts happeneing at 100% again, 110%, 120%, up untill it's capped again.

Brilliant! I'll try it out. The mobs mainly ignore me too.

                          Re: Besieged and Melee types

I go as BRD every time for my guaranteed 700 ISP. Hymnus / Ballad II, then Elegy, Requiem, Finale all day long. I could do this by myself, but our LS has a nice system to these. We start by picking a designated meeting area (I prefer the Bastion, south side stairs), and we have one member choose the targets (generally the PLD). I know this can be difficult when there are 8 Scout Puks, and horrible lag, but with enough communication it can be done. Since we started organizing better, we all get over 600 and most get 700, even the melee.

I was afk the other day and came back to find I was in them middle of the Besieged as
                            a 50 ninja instead of 75 pld.

I couldn't really hit anything, but I was able to use elemental ninjitsu for 1-2 damage
and on the rare occasion 11 damage. I assumed I wouldn't get much experience
because I wasn't able to impact the battle much, but strangely enough I still got 700.

It really wasn't fun at that level, and I will make sure I am 75 Paladin for future events.
Still can't hit the mobs well, but at least I can tank and not go down in 1 or 2 shots
(read: feel like I helped, lol)

done besieged in the past as WHM but the lag is horrible. Usually get 300+ IP when I do just by curing. I usually get more when the undead come to town, and less on the trolls. at the start i always use protect iv/shell iv on the nearest serpent general, fully buff myself, and wait for the fireworks. the target of mine is always on the serpent general.
