How would you rank FFXI and all the expansions against other mmorpg s?

Short answer? Very highly. Long answer? Well, I'm not sure I have time for the entire thing...
FFXI was my first MMO, so that may be while I love it so much. But I've since played EQ, EQ2, CoH, CoV, DAoC and WoW. And each of those are also nice, but FFXI is top of the heap for me.
I do think FFXI's guild system could use some work (I'd love to see Guilds more like EQ2 instead of the highly casual LS system that we have), but that's a minor gripe, really.

I'm pretty much of the same opion as Aelathir. One thing I like about FFXI is the balance between casual play and long-term play. In other MMO's I always got bored because it always seemed like I "finished the game" within 6mo. I'm going on two years in FFXI and only now reaching end-game on my first job. Seems like there is just... more to do in FFXI than other MMOs, and I really, really, really like the job system.
Honestly, Jobs make the game worth it as much as anything else. If i just don't want to heal any more, I can grab an axe, an in a matter of minutes, I'm hacking something to bits without having to "Start over" on a new character.

I tend to group certain types of MMO's together and FFXI is together with a few other MMOs in the "better group" along with MMOs like EQ, CoH, WoW, DAoC, EVE, etc. If you want a comparison, then the next lower "tier" (I suppose you'd call it that) would be games like L2, Horizons, SWG (personal opinion), and whatnot. Followed then by games like RO, MS, yadayadayada...
