Is there any way I can just buy a CD-key and download the game online? Like Guild Wars.

you *can* get in online:

first you find ffxi or expansion you need on internet (probably via torrent but im not telling you any sites or how)

then you go to ebay or something of the sorts and purchase a key OR the actual game and email the person saying you only want the key.

A lot of people have many spare keys because they already had the pc version or ps2 and they moved to 360 therefore having to purchase new keys, so you have a big shot at finding one if you really work into it with your friends, contacts etc...
