  • The FFXI Abbreviation Definitions thread!

I'm a new player, picked up the 360 version of the game a couple of weeks back now. It's been pretty awesome coming on forums and such, discussing the in game topics, and getting help and what not - but the main problem i'm having on forums, is that there seems to be such a vast quantity of abbreviations to deal with. Many it is easy to guess, but some i can't even begin to comprehend.

So, please, would you be able to post some replies giving definitions of the abbreviations that you can think of, or are on the top of your head at the moment - just to give me, and anyone else who has the same problem a little help. Thanks in advance.

Edit: one i have just come across now - RSE. Would anyone be able to shed any light on what this stands for?

Re: The FFXI Abbreviation Definitions thread!

          Also:

TP = Tactical(?) Point, you get it when you (1) hit a mob or (2) being hit by a mob (either melee or spell that damage your hit points right away). Once it reach 100%, you can use weaponskill.

WS = Weapon Skill. Special move you can use once your TP get to 100% or more. What you can use depends on (1) the type of weapon you are using, (2) your main job, and (3) your skill in that weapon.

SC = Skillchain. When you and your teammates use certain weaponskills in certain order, this will occur. It deal some (elemental?) damage to the mob. Note that a SC is tied with 1-4 elements, which the mob you are fighting might be strong to, or weak to.

Burst = Usually mean Magic Burst. It happens when you land a spell matching to the SC that is happening. The spell will land for extra damage.

Not to be mean or anything, but isn't there a "Glossary/Terms" section that people could post this info and others would have the liberty of looking up?

Actually TP is for Technique Point the idea is taken after a character in FFVI. Were he charged up his TP gauge to deal different special technique attacks.

RoZ - Rise of Zilart (Expansion)
CoP - Chains of Promethia (Expansion)

Strange my manual says Technique Points.

Either case both terms work for it...

That's weird, I remember for sure it said Tactical Point, the only reason I could think of it being different is them changing it. Dunno.

The CoP/ToAU was the first thing I posted in my post.

Lol, no it wasn't last I saw on the original before you edited it, it stopped after the COR - Corsair spot. Nothing else after that you added it in as an edit with a recent thread, and why are trying to pick a fight on something so tiny as this? So it's repeat info that you did put in after an edit, seriously.
