    Re: New Players and Lotting

Duoing at low levels, I just genocide every EP-DC in the area.

Little need to rest, and it adds up fast.

Duoing at low lvls has never given me good xp. It's more fun than soloing, but you aren't going to be able to kill toughs that much quicker. But I did meet my first friend in the game after it was released at lvl 9 in the highlands fighting sheep. Sadly, after I quit, he sent me an IM and I just said "I'm sorry, I can't play ffxi anymore" and blocked him.

Lotting was never an issue until recently 2 years ago. I dont do it anymore in certain PT situattions. I just state if i want something then lot it. As for duoing.
I duo with my pokemon .. she has an O-hat and every thing. dun need to worry about her dropping shes level 63 and lasts 1.5 hours hehe. I can and do duo with her into the mid 20's.

Case by case gauging of the persons actions regarding what their motives are is the only guide we have in these two cases I fear. In the pt I was in the person was trying to be the only lotter so he would get all the crystals. I base this opinion off his protesting when I advised everyone else to lot on the items in treasure which he had already lotted on and then disbanding when he found out other people would lot if he did.
He joined another pt in the dunes and we grabed another damage dealer.
The person 1st mentioned by the OP could have been tested by also lotting and seeing if he got upset (greedy) or contiued pting without comment (or didn't know he was expected to let items drop randomly). Sorry I was no help on shedding light on that one.

I leave the lot results visble so I know if anyone is starting to lay claim to items normally being distributed randomly to party. If I had lot results filtered I would've been left to ponder my poor luck on never getting a crystal drop until turning it back on to find out. In the case of /c I lose nothing if I miss seeing that someone checked me out while missing Player cast lot means I lose my 1/6th chance at obtaining an item I can craft with or sell later without even knowing it's being lotted.

I really hate it when people say "I need them for crafting" or even "I need them for money." Everybody needs money. The people that don't craft need the crystals to sell to the people who do craft. It's rude to just assume that your needs are more important than everyone else's.

I will also grant that in addition to the spam it's annoying to have to keep checking treasure to lot on everything. I will occasionally go into it to pass items I don't want, but rarely do I keep up with this while performing my pt duties (duties varry by job) unless the puller is very slow.

Thankyou for putting it far better than I could articulate /salute Taskmage

            Re: New Players and Lotting

I think that the practise of not lotting and letting the system automatically distribute is valuable training for parties in the later levels where you don't have time to lot because the monsters are coming too fast. Also think about people who are playing the role of puller, who rarely get time to check whether or not they've lotted on something. It isn't fair on them.

The proper system in my opinion is that people never lot, and those who don't want the item should pass so that others have a greater chance to receive.

              Re: New Players and Lotting

Pardon my ingnorance as I don't even play yet, but I was just sitting here thinking about this loot thing in this game.

How is it decided who can "lot" on what, if we all have the ability to be every job?

I mean, lets say, as an example, i've got decent levels in WHM, WAR, RNG, and NIN, alright?
-- we decide to group up to do a BCNM, but a WHM is needed, but I really want a drop off this guy for my RNG....

Is it decided before hand that *IF* the RNG item drops, I can "lot" on it as a WHM?

I might be way overthinking this, I'm just curious, as I do not want to make any overly noobish mistakes that could lead to enemies.

I'm not even aware of the different "loot distribution systems" so, if ihave futher invalidated my question, just ignore me. :D

                Re: New Players and Lotting

you'd decide and agree on things before hand. Quite often if all the gear is saleable you'd flog the lot and divide the procedes, this way your share can go for saving up towards buying the item. Another way to do it is you do a run for each person. Each person gets the drops for one run whether they can use it or not.

Some gear is exclusive meaning it can't be traded/sold with this gear it normally makes sence that someone who can use it gets to lot on it. Most linkshells who go for this sort of thing have rules that cover it. Some you declare a "main" job and get to lot on those items, some have points systems meaning even if you can use an item someone else ay get preference. Sometimes these systems are used even for non-exclusive gear.

For some gear you'll make a run expressly to get an item, you might hunt a NM for a specific armour peice, in this case you might well be doing it with friends in your link shell. Just discuss it. I'm might need help getting my mycophile gloves at some point. I'll take some buddies from my LS to help, then repay the favour later when they need help doing something.

Different situations will have different systems of dividing the loot. Just talk about it and make sure you are aware of the situation before the loot drops. If it doesn't sound fair find some others to do it with.

                  Re: New Players and Lotting

That is what I figured, but i'm still very lost (alot of websites have good but very sporadic information)...

Loot makes no sense to me, as I'm not playing, so I don't know names and such (i'm sure by the time i'm lvl 10 in what ever job, I'll have my "dream set" all picked out, as I overly research everything.)

Thanks for the information though! I'm like you i guess, I'd rather run it with a tight group, and help each other get our drops than leaving it all to chance. :D
