Yeah, if the blind invite is actually to what your looking for(only time this is ever true is dunes EXP partys, and then the party usually sucks) then their just annoying... otherwise... bleh.

Re: Blind Invites: Why are they so bad?

I find that people who flag JP only but do not speak the language at all to be extremely pretentious. If you don't sling the lingo, not only does it give you a bad reputation amongst Japanese players (who are going to assume you can understand them), but quite a lot of veteran players will downgrade their opinion of you as well (i.e. lies or otherwise misinforms other players to pursue goals).

Aside from that, I notice no difference in overall skill level now between English and Japanese players. Similar proportion of skilled vs. clueless (disregarding the current influx of Xbox360 players who are just getting into the game). There's quite a lot of good English speaking players out there now, and I really don't see the point in deliberately setting the wrong language flag.
I've been playing since jp ps2 release, and have my have had years of jp courses. Most english players are good, but when it comes to random PTs, Jps are better. Nowadays it doesent really matter with the new xpac and easily obtaining 6k or more an hour in pick up pts. but back in the day jp pick pts I found were much better. Their over all understanding of their job and communication between each other led to many successful pts.

edit: Hey just saw someone ask me this question above:

read this and it stunned me. I didn't realize that this even happened...
I suppose this could be a thread all of its own. Are you in a Japanese LS?
And Yea I am - Helplessrain (Social jp ls)

I've been playing since NA PS2 beta. You're correct in saying that for the past few years, JP pickup parties were much better...

...but that was then, and this is now.

I don't see any tangible difference between random JP players and random NA players anymore (and the EU players, who were largely not terribly skilled a year ago, have made great strides since). Game skill has much to do with experience, and NA players have had 2.5 years to perfect their skills (I'm personally 20 days from my 3rd anniversary in FFXI).

I don't see any significant differences between JP and NA skill levels now, across the board, with singular exceptions made for the new XBox360 players, and hence I find no compelling reason for anyone who doesn't speak Japanese to flag "J" or put "JP only" in their search comment - it's being unnecessarily racist (in an inverted sense).

I thought it meant what kind of party you were looking for, for the longest time. Finally found out that flagging 'JE' meant you could speak both, and haven't remembered to change it since. As far as the gap b/w the players, I haven't noticed it anymore either. Seems like pickup parties are either good or they're not, regardless of ethnicity.

I do still notice little differences between JP and other players in that they still tend to exp for a set amount of time, and then disband when someone has to go rather than replacing anyone. Depending on how I'm feeling that day, I'm either happy about that or not. (Generally depending on how close I am to level when they break).

Otherwise, I completely agree. There hasn't been a substantial difference in NA vs. JP party quality in quite some time.

Didn't FFXI players have this argument years and years ago? It *doesn't* mean you can speak both. It says right in the game what it means, "No particular language preference." (EU languages don't count, I guess.)

If anyone wants to play Humpty Dumpty and say it means whatever you want it to mean, you can go ahead, I guess. But SE already defined what THEY think it means and it seems to me that using it to mean something different from that is pointlessly confusing.

As for blind invites: they send the same message as underleveled subs or lizard armor in the jungles. "I just don't care enough to make the effort to make things a little better for my party." Gee, that's what I want to see in a pt leader.

well, what SE said is one thing. What the players actually think can be totally different however.
SE mentioned ninja isn't designed to tank, remember? They even went as far as saying BST wasn't designed to solo after many players complaint about the MPKing nerf.

Re: Blind Invites: Why are they so bad?

This happend this evening and I thought of this thread. Just thought I would share.

I usually am not picky about invites and I'll even accept blind invites on occasion. But this evening I was having a rough day and didn't want to deal with a badly set up party so I cancelled the blind invite. This is what happened next:

I just found it humorous that the person then said that to her other pt member (yes they went past me and she only had one other person with her). I did a search for her about 5 mins later and she wasn't online anymore.

Also, I don't know about anyone else but have you ever noticed that blind invites seem to only come from anyone that is Rank 5 or less? I've been watching lately with the 2 jobs I'm currently lvling with in the low areas. It might just be me but I thought I'd ask to see if anyone else noticed.

Re: Blind Invites: Why are they so bad?

I did notive it's everyone with rank 5 or less. But I noticed a rank 10 player blind inviting me. I don't usually accept blind invites, unless I know the person and they know me, so I know what I'm getting myself into.

I also just tend to ignore the invites that just say "/tell Omecle pt" or "party", sometimes they even use the auto-translator. But they never manage to fit in a question mark, and always seem to send the invite as soon as they /tell me.

You may think I'm being picky, but everytime I do actually decide to go and party with those people, it always turns out bad, and it just shows if they aren't going to make an effort to at least tell me what the party setup is, and politely ask me to join, then it just shows how much effort they're willing to put into the party as a leader, and making sure that the party is getting the best possible experience points they can at the level and place they are at.

It doesn't matter what rank you are, hell I even see rank 10's as WAR/NIN in the dunes... They can be really bad players and party leaders. And I'll accept any rank, as long as they are willing to put in the effort, because I know things will turn out alright. Any rank can be a good player.

Edit: Karinya explained what I meant in fewer words, above. But I guess I needed to get that explination out of my system.

I never implied that rank made you a good or a bad player. I commented that all of my blind invites came from Rank 5 or less people. Also I never said that all blind invites were horrible pts. As I stated before, I do accept them but this evening was just wasn't in the mood for one. I've had some decent pt's that were blind invites and some that were not.
