Hey I'm about to go buy FFXI Online, but what else do I need to buy for it? Whats a good Begining server for FFXI noobies (if one) whats a nice noob race and class or w/e to help get me started. Please say anything to help me out when I get my acc started =] thank you

There really is no 'best'

I'd level WAR or MNK as your first job, fairly cheap, will give you a good view of the game, and be useful as a sub later on.

As far as race, it's really a non-issue, pick whichever one looks best to you.

There's a lot more to say, but you should dig around some, use the search function.

But just so you don't miss it, the two tips you'll always see in a thread like this:

Advice on race. Pick something you don't mind staring at for hours and hours on end. And Race doesn't have anything to do with Jobs. Pick whatever you want. And Warrior and Monk are good starting jobs and is cheaper.

As for the server, it doesnt matter which one your in (they're all basically the same), so you can pick whichever sounds best to you
Another piece of advice, never through away drops (items that you get from enemies) or sell them to NPCs! Instead, sell them at the AH, that way you get the chance to make some easy gil (you can get alot depending on the drop being sold)

Race does have something to do with jobs. Whether that something is important to you or not is the question.

Certain races are better fit for certain jobs naturally. It's just the way things go. That's not to say you can't choose whatever race you'd like, as everyone else has suggested. Just keep in mind, as you're coming into the game, that if you, for example, choose to be a Tarutaru but want to play as a Warrior like me, you're going to be naturally lacking some of the strength and vitality that can be useful to a Warrior.

If the natural stats of the five races interest you at all, make sure you play around with different combinations while creating your character and look at how the various attributes change. Otherwise, no one will ever criticize you as a player for choosing whatever race/job combination you want. If they do, then they obviously aren't worth listening to.
