Kraken Club Weird thingy

This was a LONG time ago.

I was in Carpenter's Landing, and I got on that barge(forget the name).

There was a RDM with a Kraken club, he was getting the 8 hits every single time I noticed. I checked him and his kraken club had a bunch of weird symbols and ASCII characters for the help text.


I so thought he was teh hax.

Anyone run into something like t his?

Yeah, I've seen ScreenShots of it. What happens is person A sets up a weird kind of fishbot I know nothing about, and it lets them fish up anything they want, from Excalibur to Little Worms(However they lose rod/bait every time, not big loss though) Anyway, what they probably did was use a combinaion of 5 programs I won't list to make a custom Kraken Club.

I think a while ago, the club was glitchy I believe. I honestly don't remember the full details. Don't quote me on this either, it was a while back.

one question i must ask... HOW!? and even better, why??

Where;s the sense of achievement if you just hack the best weapon in the game to your character. And damn, that must be REALLY easy to detect server side.

Wow, seems like they'd just be begging for a character deletion if its that obvious.
Wouldn't even need [GM]Dave to fetch Jormy, any old regular GM would do.

And now I wonder what is possible now. To be able to reproduce weapons you do not own, to be able to fish up just about anything. We'll start to see 1 hit deaths and 9,999 exp per kills so that RMT peeps can sell a massive amount of 75 characters (Characters with Maat Caps even!)

I think he was exagerrating a little bit when he said fishing up excaliburs and stuff. For all we know, the kraken club could be legit. I know a while back, kraken clubs had some jumbled up characters on the bottom of the description, and that was just a glitch and didn't mean anything significant.

I have heard of people fishing up a variety of items due to a glitch that doesn't exist anymore to my knowledge, but never an excalibur or kraken club.

First, let me preface this by saying this hack no longer exists due to the alteration in the fishing programming. And second, I neither promote this hack, performed this hack, nor have access to this hack. And if any mod takes offence at this, just wipe it from the board. But more or less, let me explain how this worked:

This is far from new news, but I first learned of it from the Alla forums when a fairly rich hacker finally revealed how he made all his gils. One day, he was out to fish for actual stuff when he discovered a glitch. This glitch allowed him to fish anywhere, not just water areas, with no bait and randomly catch just about any item in the game.

The basic premise of how this worked was that when you fished, there were three basic DB tables accessed more or less: Bait, Region and Item caught. Now, with Bait as a nul value, it royally screwed up the Item caught, with the region as a modifier. How it normally works is that Bait gives you access to the item table appropriate to it. Nul is not a value, so this should create an error and not work (Bring up the error about not having bait). However, SE in their infinite wisdom left a crack in the code that did not set Bait initial to true nul, and instead left it with a random value being crammed in. Normally that initial value was set equal to the bait ID once you tried to fish, but this exploit squeeked through the crack.

Because of the random coding error, it basically could access any DB in the game. I suppose with a little work, some DAT mining, you could figure out what item would be equal to allow you access to a DB of items containing what EQ you wanted, then fudge with the client side and send that value over.

The club in question is most likely some unlinked test club the programmers used to verify that it could reach 8 hits max. And instead of removing the DAT for it, they just cut all links to it, a la the Hot Coffee-stye lock down on the AO GTA scenes.

Fortunately, as stated, with the new fishing code, that wouldn't work. The items now all have to have a strength meter, so unless SE ^%&ed up again, I'd think they'd have closed that loophole.

Also please note that I am generalizing and oversimplifying a LOT in this post. (IE using the term DB[database] instead of DAT simply because I am used to thinking in webdev terms...)

Eh, doesn't seem to be anything worse then explinations I've thrown around. Though really I can understand an data error many premade database like object by default tends to automatically set an ID like field to 0, null-string, or a true null. It's very easy to mess up because of that and forget what you've set the database to default to (or forget to set it) and you end up with a bug that isn't caught like it's suppose to.

So for example if bait isn't in inventory say it's suppose to set the value to Null, but the glitch allowed it's default which say it was 0. So then a 0 ID Bait with null in all the other fields any query set to remove items based on values now would break because there is no value to base on so nothing is removed from the possible item list.

That sounds very much like a glitch that has often haunted me when creating databases. It's such a pain in the butt, especially when you switch from one database type to another.

Well it was more like when you forget to place a value in a C variable. It seems it pulled random garbage out of RAM to value the Bait modifier. As it randomly accessed thousands of different items. This guy in particular found he could fish beds up. But he got a lot of placeholders as well (The "." item is a 0-value placeholder I believe). So basically, if you manipulate the RAM to some degree, have the Bait variable instantiate with the proper value to access the DAT you want to "fish", you could literally fish up any item in the game...

Or could have. Doesn't work anymore to my knowledge. I believe he tested it just weeks after the patch and could not get a damn thing. Good enough for me really. I hate hackers' screwing with the economy.

Yeah, Pawke just basicly told you, and it dosn't exist anymore. I chose not to list the programs though, because they can still be used to hack in other ways >.> And you would have been able to fish up Excalibur if the relics where added before fishing patch... But not anymore. And it would be very easy to tell if it was a fished Excalibur, because the botter wouldn't have complete the quest to get it, but they would have it.

This was a LONG time ago.

The help text on Kraken Club was glitched after a version update once. SE fixed it.


Fishing up a K.Club wouldn't give it glitchy help text...

Fishing up an excalibur would make sense though... didn't it come from the Lady of
