    Re: What's the rush?

I can fairly reasonably say I havn't "rushed to 75" perse (year and a half, only now reaching 70), but hot damn if the game isn't totally different once you reach 70+... I mean, I know what HNM and Sky and Dynamis are all about, sure, but actually -doing it- is an entirely different game altogether. I won't go so far to say that "the game starts at end-game" but it really, really, really, does change (Even for jobs that are just doing the same old thing, like WHM).

Honestly, I rush now. I want 75. I want to be done with XP parties and on to Merit parties. I want XP to be what I do when I don't have a buffer any more, cause frankly, the part of the game I -love- the most is the part that opens to you after 70+.

    Double Post Edited:
Though now that I think about it, I only feel the urge to "rush" if I'm in a "normal" XP party (tank, 2dd, rdm, whm, blm, chain #5, heal for MP, lather, rince, repeat). I don't really have that feeling with Bones, Manaburn, or TP Burn parties... They are face-paced and hectic enough that I don't feel bored (which is why I hurry up in normal parties).

I don't even accept invites to "normal" parties any more; there's enough demand for WHM that I can be selective and do what I most enjoy.

Oh, I don't disagree with this at all. But no one (save crazies) gets to 75 in a week or two. No sense in just ignorning all the stuff that comes before.

            Re: What's the rush?

There aren't many places I hate. I love Qufim even though I've had some dreadful parties there (including the one with the argument with a RDM about why WHMs should main heal and RDMs should enfeeble) and the dunes has some fantastic farming opportunities. The only place I loath with a passion is Crawlers' Nest.

I've never partied there, so it isn't because of that. The place is really creepy with all those webs and the egg sacs. And what's with the sparkly ceiling (/shudder)? Also, it should be the ideal place to get xp at my level. Unfortunately, that means having Sneak on constantly, having to deal with linking pets and prey, working around farmers (and thus not being able to keep track of what's about to pop, and where) and not being able to run for zone when things go wrong.

Also, I could be higher level than I am now quite easily. If I wasn't also levelling WHM, BLM, RDM and NIN just now, and if I wasn't saving up for an Apollo's Staff, and if I wasn't spending the money I'm saving on other things (like the 2 Morion Earrings I bought today), oh, and there's cooking too, and bonecrafting, and leathercrafting, and missions, and exporing and, well, you get the idea .
I have heard that those who celebrate life
walk safely amongst the wild animals.
When they go into battle, they remain unharmed,
the animals find no place to attack them
and weapons are unable to harm them.
Why? Because they find no place for death in them.

Probably saying "what's the rush" wasn't exactly the best way to word my question. I used to be in a static with five good friends, and we seriously tore through the exp. We got 30 in record time, unlocked Adv. Jobs, moved on to our static "mains" and were doing Limit Breaks and AF before many of our friends had reached 30. So, it's certainly possible. But we did that because we worked so well together, weren't afraid to take risks and exp in unusual locations, and just generally kicked ass. I'm all for parties like that.

I just can't stand it when people treat levels 1-74 as little more than an annoyance. Something that they just have to deal with until they can get to the level they actually want to be. Then they'll totally start being good players. Totally.

I Agree with you on many points. When FFXI was new the exploration was so great I truly enjoyed it so much. Took me 3 years to get a 70 job, 3.5 to get one to 75. I Enjoyed levelling at 24 in Battalia and Jugner So much space no one to bump into. I enjoyed levelling in Davoi, and Bedo at level 32+, Feiyin, Garliage, Even in rangeumont pass.

When I levelled BLM I would take PT's into ... No I would drag some PT's into Behemoths domain, Ranperre, The dungeon in LT, it escapes me now. Into Carpenters landing. theres SOOO manyplaces to go its insane. Carpenters is a chicken ride from jeuno 5-10 min tops.

I took my time quested, did missions and enjoyed levels 1-75. I wont say I enjoy endgame more, to me theres not more to do than at any other level at 75.
It seems people reach 75 and THINK theres more to do. To them cool, Me I just enjoyed all Levels.

My single greatest accomplishment was soloing rank5 at 32. Using the right oils, being patient, learning stealth techniques etc. I didnt even need a high level to hunt the Bedo items. I just took a PT there and we did the NM's as an alliance of 30-40's.
So great leading that expedition. Even now I try to take Mainly NA players to other areas. I ALWAYS ask if they plan to spend at least 2-3 hrs to PT. And by going to places out of the way the exp flies by, and you enjoy something different.

But thats just me, To this day my LS still does level capped things because we find them exhilirating.

                Re: What's the rush?

Hmm, tough topic. My opinion is there is a noticeable trend of rush towards 75, but not for level, just to get to "endgame". Or, like, people leveling the new jobs thinking about what to do at 75. I admit I'm a sort of exception over the majority, since I hate sky and HNMs completely (mostly due to the player-based ideas that have rooted since they were first introduced), however if you pick a job thinking about "rushing" and "what to do at 75" there's something that isn't working.
I was lucky sorta, I dodged most of PLs while taking up NIN, but there was really an inflation while I was leveling DRK. I don't really know the status at the moment.

                  Re: What's the rush?

People getting to endgame levels ASAP has no merit or value if they don't learn how to function in their jobs properly prior to 37. I see BRDs at 75 with gimp gear and one instrument (which is never the fully upgraded relic horn, but even if they did have it, they should be a two-instrument BRD) and they write it off as an inventory conflict. Kinda takes the fun out of all your hard work when someone is in endgame collecting endgame gear for your job and they don't even know how to put it to the best use.

Which is why I've started skewing to the jobs with greater expenses, because it discourages those kinds of players (well, most of them, there are still the gilbuyer noobs to deal with). I don't mean to diminish the roles of BLM, WHM, BRD, RDM and PLD - but even though they're some of the most affordable jobs over all, even then, people just don't play or gear them properly. They rush things and don't learn the nuances of their jobs.

As such, you get nukehappy BLMs that don't know what to burst on distortion (i've had BLMs in HNM shell ask me what the burst was on multiple occasions -_-) , RDMs that never dispel or refresh, WHMs oblivious to the perks of Regen, BRDs that don't use Elegy and are whipped on NIN tanks and PLDs that just spam Cure IV, Flash, never level staff skills and are scared to tank certain mobs.

Endgame is fun at points, but it is by no means the whole game. There is much to do, see and experiment with at most levels of the game and the tragedy of FFXI is that people tend to overlook most of those opportunites.

                    Re: What's the rush?

I just wanted to throw this in here, and I apologize because it may be a bit off
                    topic...

It seems several people talk about not liking the lower levels because of "newbs"
or whatever. This makes Melf sad when I hear it.

Yeah, the experience per hour can be bad, maybe they can don't do exactly what
they are supposed to do, but come on... they are learning the game.

We were all there before, so instead of getting mad/upset/emo/mean/etc, why
not help the new players out and have fun. I remember my first time in the
dunes as a warrior and I had no idea what I was doing. They had to tell me
to Provoke every 30 seconds. I was using a sword and shield so it would be ready
for when I started Paladin (damn you Brady Guide). So what. I am glad I had
some nice people to point me in the right direction, rather than call me "newb".

For every newb that will listen, there are four noobs that won't. I think that's largely why the low level EXP experience has such a bad stigma attached to it.

                        Re: What's the rush?

I hate rushing through levels. I was staticing my whm with a friend once and he was one of those people who do NOTHING but level because he wanted 75 really bad for whatever reason. He kept pushing me to level with him so much that I went from 37 to 53 in about a week or two's time. Doesn't really seem like much but it got old really, really fast. I never even got a chance to slow down and get my warp scrolls I was missing from the quests (yhoat, vazhl, and altep) because he was so concerned with leveling as quickly as he could. I told him I needed a break from the game (I had been online every day for at least 6 hours and that's abnormal for me) so he went on without me and I'm still only a 54 whm as my highest job while he got his thf to 70 something. I didn't enjoy rushing, so I can't understand why people want to rush to 75. It's more enjoyable if you slow down to actually enjoy the job you are leveling. Which would be why I'm only Pld 30 something, because I love that job to death and I don't want to ruin it by rushing.

                          Re: What's the rush?

I actually prefer having PLs at lower levels, but not to race to 75. Getting a new level can mean getting a new spell or ability to mess around with. A lot of people probably want a PL to race to get the next ability/spell, i'd guess.
Qufim is way too early to be thinking much about 75.

                          Hm.

                            Re: What's the rush?

I hate people who rush, rush, rush! When I was on Phoenix, everyone I knew were on their like 3rd/4th job to 75, and no one understood why I didn't have a job at 75. Just exping all the time is not fun at all. It gets boring and annoying. And it makes me want to /wrists^^. I mean, honestly, I play enough so I could be 75 if I really wanted (My 3 highest jobs are RDM 52 and BLM, WHM at 51 both)., but I prefer to just have fun and craft and play low-level jobs. That reason alone was one of the main reasons I left to go to Sylph server. Another one was so that I could try my hand at roleplaying in a LS that I read about on this board. And honestly, that was the best decision I've ever made in FFXI. This last week and a half, I have had more fun in FFXI than I have since I started to play in July of 2004. The people I've met while leveling in Windy were the nicest people I've met in along time. Just random people leveling new jobs and whatnot. Of course, I've had some bad parties in the dunes (one with 3 whms... one of which was /mnk! HAHAHA) But yanno, just deal with it or leave the pt. And not to mention Ethereal my LS, These people are great! THey have really made me feel at home there even though they hardly know me. (Seriously, if you like RP and are on Sylph... you should join! They are the best)

Anyways, sorry for rambling. Basically: Enjoy the ride ! (and I *hate* PL as WHM....

I've had time to write a book

                            I haven't got a paragraph.

                            Anyway, I love you.

                                Re: What's the rush?

Well personally i did rush, the reason? So i can help my LS more. There are things that piss you off, that you really cant do much about though. When a LS starts out when most were newbs at the time you want to have as many high level people possible, and it really hurts the LS if there is people that want to stay at level 30 or 40 and never progress far enough. Because once you get enough high level people, back then, you can move the LS into bigger and better things, and in the big picture, it will help everyone in that sense. However you cant force people to level, and its sorta why some higher level people would leave your LS becuase you cant fulfill their wants and needs anymore for various reasons(and one of them the lack of high end activity). So it goes full circle back to...we need more high lvls >_>; And the LS goes nowhere.

Anther reason is...one of my friends LOVE to grind. Sure i will say STOP AND GET ASPIR when he wanted to exp without it on his DRK, but he just loves to grind, he grinds on RO all day and finds it fun, so i wouldnt say some would love to rush more than some would like to grind instead. You want to spend the day with getting the Airship pass? "Nah lets level" @_@; wewt.
