Well, I decided to try the same thing as Feba... and it took me about 6 hours of google to find the programs and set them up and use them and all that. (OMIGOSH FEBA R MAKE ME HAX!)

I took one out, selected a Worm nearby in La Theine, and hit "Warp To". At that point a LARGE FUCKING GALKA proceeded to FLY THROUGH THE AIR at the mob, like twenty feet away.

Not exactly inconspicous.

It was freaking hilarious, but enough to convince me NEVER EVER to use it. I wish I had made a video of it. The capabilities that these botters have had for years is really frightening I have to agree. I had no honest idea of the capabilities that they have. I thought that they just got a small warning of when a mob was going to pop... erk, no.

On a related note I kept accusing a friend in my linkshell of "hax!" everythime he ran past me on flee. He is a 68DRK/34THF. He thought it was funny enough to keep doing it.

You got a good point here. but it seem that you left out those who are hanging in the middle of the fence. And quite a good numbers of people are in this phase.
Some people may have this kind of thinking that, WAO the hack rock and i can find it from goggle as mention by the thread starter or by visiting some pay online forum and since people are using it and even thread starter used it at least once so why cant i try it too to have a feel? and after that he may be addicted to it due to the fact it helps a lot and save a lot of time by warping to the place they want in sec instead of traveling 10mins or more at least by choco or walking.
This type of people will decide to find it or at least try to find it and it may change their mindset again.

This is just my perception of the situation, but I don't think there are probably that many people "on the fence" about hacking. People are either going to know and care about the negative effect it has on other players in the game, or they won't.

Now, it may be that some people just don't know that you can hack in the game, who would see Feba's post and suddenly realize they could go out and find such a program to cheat at the game. But .. I don't think that effort will get very far. These programs are not easy to find, especially with vague search terms like "cheat" or "hack." AngryUndead spent 6 hours googling for one such program. Someone who's too lazy or impatient to walk across a zone or sit and put materials in a crystal is likely going to get frustrated trying to find the programs with the inspecific search material given in this thread. That's why I asked Feba to remove all the program names.

Even knowing the program names its hard to find even the free ones. Like down a back alley behind a bordello, take a left at the crackhead hard.

Or maybe I fail at the interweb, but I doubt it.

No, I did the same thing as you. I was completely unaware of most of these hacks until I was helping some stranger with his drg quest and he was blatantly using a certain well known program to warp all over the place, even said "Thank you, <program name>" in public chat when he used it to get away from a mob that would've killed him. Needless to say he didn't make it to the end of the day without a ban.

After I logged off I tried to find out more about this program and what it could do, but even knowing the name I was searching through junk pages for over an hour before I gave it the finger and stopped stressing myself about it. So if the problem is failing at the internet, I fail too. Unless you know someone in-game who has the programs and can send them to you or give you a good link, it's very hard to find them or even just information about them.

Besides, if more people use this, that's almost a good thing. It forces SE to fix it.

If more people use the program SE will fix it? Do you know how long these programs have been around? The majority of these programs were created by the JP's and have been around for a long long time. It just took some time for them to be more widely known to the English speaking populace. I have a very old and good JP friend that used to show me his "fun" (as he would call it) when he would visit. This was long before the game was even released here. He used to show me videos that rl friends and lsmates had made doing stuff in game. Those funny WoW videos with the dancing and emotes remind me of the videos they did. They had the stuff set to music and it was well done and crazy! Like he said, "fun". So many of the JP's were using it and if SE had really wanted to they could have dealt with this long long ago. Which poses the age old question, why didn't they?

The thing about windower is that IMO, it's not really a cheat. The term Cheat is definied as "something that gives an unfair advantage". Now, bots, fleehacks, etc, they give you an unfair advantage, but being able to check your IMs or look at somepage while LFG...does that seem like an unfair advantage? Ok, now think about this. A friend of mine has a dual monitor set up which allows him to run FFXI on one monitor, and allows him to do other things on his other monitor, like check email, somepage, watch TV, etc. It's NOT against the ToS seeing as how he's not using a third party program to do this. But still it's technically like using the windower. But it's not against the ToS, and he'll never be banned legally for it. So does windower seem that bad? I know it gives players the ability to cheat, but if you really think about it, most people who use it are only using it to do other things like IM.

Due to how FFXI access DirectX you cannot sadly use a second monitor, FFXI find this behavior to loose screen and will promtly shut down FFXI for full screen lost.

The only way you can use a second monitor is if you use windower. Had a dual monitor setup on my game computer for a while and this just messed up FFXI beyond hell every time the mouse pointer went outside the game.

Now the second monitor is on my work computer instead to not mess up my FFXI gameplay, even though I personally detest any application that decide how I set up my hardware I do enjoy the game itself.

I just wanted to say, it took me 17 clicks to find the hacks. I would have found it faster if I hadn't deleted my bookmark of the main site *rofl*

EDIT: Yes I did download them, I guess some people are better than other at searching for things. Aww dun /emoslitwrist yourself over it.

I think there is a certain step between "finding teh hax" and actually "downloading teh hax". I found like 1,000,000 links to download them, but only like 1 in 10,000 links is "live".

Thats neither here nor there, persistance will get you what you want, be it a Bot or a better method of claiming with the terms of the game itself.

Still, I was really dumbfounded at all the stuff that could be done. I do wish I could get the Japanese -> English translator going. That would be really useful I think. Make me feel more comfortable in the odd situation where too much Japanese is flying around. Not everyone wants to use the auto-translate all the time.

I'm guessing this prevents S/E from being able to find them and crack down, as well. Drug dealers don't deal in broad daylight in front of the police station, or even just a few blocks away. They'll find the most hidden back alley that very few people - including the cops - will stumble upon.

Maybe a bad analogy but I know nothing of drug dealers. My point is, these programs are probably hard to find so that if S/E were to ever look around with the intention of busting these people, it would be much harder to do so.

Maybe I'm just stating the obvious here, though ...

So just because you realize how they work justifies the fact that you can use them for "educational" purposes? Look, most people have a general idea of how things like this work. In fact, I'm pretty sure you don't know how these things work more than any average person would and your knowledge on this topic is "general" at most.

No, most normal people don't go through all 8 pages on a single thread-- I went through the first and last page, which should be enough. Who cares if they didn't know these things exist. You probably got more people googling this stuff and actually using it than educating them on not using it.
