Yeah. I have a couple of RL friends in game who are high level fisherman.
Their primary source of gil is fishing, so they spend a lot of time doing it (they
seem to enjoy it also), and they get called fishing bots all the time, lol.

Yeah, I had a buddy of mine get a GM called on him. Guess who it was? [GM]Jcbluefucktard. We don't know who called a GM on him, but trust me, he's lucky we don't know who he is. He was fishing in Onzozo. He could easily rack in 10mil a week for fishing for 2-3 hours a day. He wasn't botting, but the GM that EVERYONE hates said he "Detected bots running on his system." (He was playing on PS2 for Christ Sakes.) And permanently banned his account. To this day I wonder who Jcblue is, and if I ever see him on the street, I'll be whuppin his ass. I'm seriously not joking, people being conspirists are pissing me off. "ZOMG, He's botting, she's botting, he's hacking, they're fleeing!!!" It's annoying.

I had some guy threatening to call a GM on a friend of mine, for flee hacking. He said everything in shout. The conversation was something like.

Dumbass: OMG <my friend> is running at Mazurka speed, I'm calling a GM!!!"
Me: LOL, OMG, you're an idiot.
Dumbass: What, don't you see him, he's running faster than normal.
My friend: Um....probaly because I'm a 75 BRD............
Dumbass: Um....prove it to me.
Me: Isn't the freaking SHA'IR GEAR ENOUGH PROOF? That and he has the song animations going? Or maybe if you would've /sea all........Or do I have to get a signed agreement from a GM that he's a bona-fide BRD?

Oh the irony. They don't even run checks on people's computer when some of them are clearly fish botters. Suddenly, they decide to actually enforce the law and punish an innocent.

I don't think that SE said anywhere in the ToS that they can run diagnostic checks on your PC to check for 3rd party software. If they are, that's (I belive, not a law student) a criminal offense unless they have it noted somewhere what they're doing when they're reviewing your programs. (I.E. Using a Trojan) And second off, it was IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM TO RUN A 3RD PARTY PROGRAM........... He was on a PS2. Basically, the only thing you can do on a PS2 is use a turbo fire (macro) controller for claiming NMs, and that doesn't work anymore.

Lastly, to icemage: I don't know why you have to stop our conversation as there was one pretty in depth on this thread about third party programs and the definition of one that lasted for quite a while uninterrupted. I can't speak for Feba, but I'm not trying to provoke any flame wars or anything. As for this conversation, it has continued to be quite civilized and calm. I don't see how any of this violates the forums policies.

I'm not accusing Feba of any violations, he has done so himself merely by posting screenshots and bluntly revealing that he uses such software. This has been nothing but a civilized debate which the last time I've checked, are the sole purposes of forums.

I understand that the exchange up to that point was civil, but it was derailing quickly and I could sense the defensiveness on both sides, hence my suggestion (note that both of you posted responses that were in transit while I made post). I did not want people suddenly deciding to take sides in what amounted to a private misunderstanding and having the thread escalate and eventually be closed.

In any case, thank you to both of you for remaining civilized in what appears to be a very touchy topic.

Speaking of this topic in general, I see nothing wrong with attempting to educate the public about what people might be using out there, especially with the notation that using such programs can and has gotten other players permanently banned from FFXI. If people consider that a worthwhile risk, then it's up to them to decide whether they want to violate the terms of service (as Feba has obviously done, good intentions notwithstanding).

I don't condone such practices, but as long as it does not affect my gaming experience in any way, I don't see any point in getting worked up or pointing fingers for people to do a bit of exploring, with the knowledge that they might be penalized for it. It's honestly none of my business, and I think it shouldn't be anyone else's other than S-E and the person violating ToS at that point.

It IS a violation of the rules. Just because it doesn't affect you it doesn't mean it should be done. People are starting to use POS hacks even in BC battles now, this is a not a good sign of what's going to happen. ALso, I've seen people accusing others of "botting" while they use the same hacks themselves, using your argument as a defense.
Frankly, it should be your business because the "not affecting my gaming experience" argument is rather weak. You can warp faster in a zone? YOu've gained an advantage EVEN if there are no other people in the zone.

I just told you that when you rep up/down someone, you should actually make sure you're having an effect on their rep, so you don't embarrass yourself.

They're getting the advantage, but the advantage doesn't effect the person who mate the comment. So it really doesn't affect them at all.

Actually he's referring to forum rep. I don't think the way he's going about it is particularly friendly or mature, but I'm not a mod, so it's not my job to correct him. Mod you can see this yourself. Someone care so much about this rep power thing until he can pm about it when i rate it down. So give me back my real rep power instead of that bugged 0 when i receive or get rated down but it keep staying at 0 showing here instead of the point i had in my setting. What I really don't get is why trying to justify a violation of something you sign up every time? THere are not "good moments" or "bad moments" to use a hack. It's the attitude that I don't like. If you say "I don't care as long as it doesn't affect me" then I don't think you should report someone else that wins a claim over you with botting....
