  • botter apathy? ;o;

    i have become very disturbed today while playing ffxi ... i have found a player (i'm not sure if i should name him) defaming another player, and requesting a source to download a bot program. that was all through /shout. i've gotten into a /tell conversation with him, and his reasoning is that this second player has been botting for at least three days strait at this particular NM spawn point. the first player's reasoning for getting a bot program is to "level the playing field" so he can camp the NM with a bot and get what he wants. i couldn't get what the NM was or the items it dropped. the player was too glad to name and defame the second player, though.

    some time later, i found the same first player spamming the air waves in Windurst. still defaming the second player, and requesting (more like demanding, at this point) a source for a bot program. then i bore witness to a /shout conversation between a few other players, about GM's ignoring calls about botters and gillsellers, but recently spending the time to ban a player for using a windower. i've /telled the second player, asking about the whole situation with him and the first player, and all responses i could get to any of my questions was "i'm sorry, idk, i'm verry sorry." i felt rather discouraged about it all, and logged off.

    i really wish i was able to screen shot all of these conversations for record. i don't have any external screenshot programs like fraps or whatever, and i can't rightly figure out FFXI's screenshot system.

    but anyways ... is it really true that FFXI's lawforce is doing little to nothing for controlling botters and gillsellers, when it's breaking MMO's most wanted laws? what can be done to set this strait?

    Bots are in every MMORPG tho. There's no real way to get rid of all of them. FFXI GMs don't just let botters get away. They can't detect every single bots, but in this case, if the person admits they bot, whether in tell, PT, LS whatever, you can tell the GM to review chat log. And that should put an end to that particular botter.

    You will see quite a lot of horrible stories about GM in FFXI banning innocent players on other forums. But use your own judgement, if those players are really innocent. Your call.

      G.M's are just like local law enforcment. somedays their very strict, while other days they could care less. ive reported players warp hacking, G.Ms see them warp hacking. an they disappear for 10 mins an are back to warp hacking soon after,.

      really the way ive always said it is like this. why would S.E get strict? players still pay every month, the botters pay them to play. gil sellers pay them to play. so why would S.E jepordize that revenue. why wont S.E take care of known gil sellers. because they lose the profit from RMT. why wont s.E ban accounts being sold on ebay? they post the name of the char, an the name of the server.

        Sadly I too sometimes question whether the GM's are taking their jobs seriously... sometimes

        But of course that doesn't apply to every GM though (I LOVE YOU DAVE !!!), some GM's do take their jobs very seriously and don't waste time banning ppl for no reason...

        The problem for the GM's is that they can't FIND the gil-buyers/bots because it's simply not that... simple...

        I wouldn't worry about it though, so long as you play by the rules and are respectful of other players, there is no reason to fear!

          sure they can catch botters, when one mob pops by first entrance to the boyada tree an the guy kills it, then the guy is able to kill the goobdue at the other entrance to the tree all the meanwhile out running my ninja boots an my /thf flee with his 70mnk/35war. yeah its not hard to spot. epsecially when the gm is watching it go down..

            Oh... well then I guess they may not care after all... lol

            If that's true then I guess there's very little we can do to stop it, other than hope that they get caught by GM's who oppose botters...
