Leaving the game for a while and need a little help.

I'm gonna leave the game for a couple months, I seem to be burned out and just need something different.

So I have two questions.

First is when I cancel, I simply cancel the POL IDs for my characters, correct? I dont' delete them or cancel my POL subscription. Maybe there's a link somewhere that best explains this, I'm not at home and can't look into my manual.

Second is a matter of investment. I'm not looking forward to holding cash and then coming back to have lost money value due to inflation. I need something to invest in that will retain the equivalant value proportion for the economy if inflation occurs again, I'm not looking to try and really make money, just something to keep the same value. I was hoping to get a few opinions on what the most stable items might be, aside from fire crystals of course. I have about 5-6 million gil, so I can't hit anything high value, but anything too low would just clog up the inventory and be a pain to liquidate when I come back.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Astral Rings, Woodsman's, Snipers, and anything else that applies to main-line jobs. Stuff that can be used by 2-3 jobs usually holds the price better.

Nothing expensive from the new areas, as the price on that stuff will probably continue to fall.

Anything +1 or +2 seems to hold value really well.

Make sure you come back for Christmas Inflation to sell it all... and buy it all back in Feb/March to keep the value.

As for canceling an account, I really couldn't tell ya.

I can't tell you anything about the character restoration process, but I do know you definitely don't want to cancel your POL account. Just the Content IDs. Whether you want to delete the characters first, I don't know, but I would imagine not.

For items, if you have the room, maybe Shihei, Silent Oils, and Prism Powders. New gear gets introduced that screws with the prices on some gear (I hear a lot of melee are replacing haubs with some new ToAU armor). But I don't see them introducing something that'd replace those three items.

What you want to do, OP, is cancel the content IDs. Leave the characters and your POL ID in place. The content IDs are what cause you to get billed each month. When you're ready to come back, you just log in to POL, purchase new content IDs (one for your main, and one for each mule) and you'll be good to go. My husband did this when he quit playing, then after 6 months I decided I wanted to use his main as a cooking mule (since he had cooking up in the 80s). It was totally painless.

yes, just cancel your content Ids and it will stop billing you.

Crystals will usually reflect the economy, since every single monster in the game drops them, the amount they sell for varies based on how much money everyone has.

Items, on the other hand, are usually bad ideas. Some items positively skyrocketed in value during my year off - Erase more than doubled, Silent oil and prism powder are insane now, food (especially HQ food) prices are ludicrous.

Others fell through the floor because more methods to obtain them were introduced.

It's impossible to predict in advance how SE will patch the game in the future. You might buy a lot of items only to find out the economy has crashed, and you have 100k in items where you started with a million.

Just hang on to your gil. The economy (on my server) is totally bloated right now; farm some expensive items while you can. If it loses value, there are always ways to build up a lot by starting with a little, and if it gains value, then there you go.

Well, I'd just hang onto your money. People are busy with Aht Urghan, causing prices to go up, because suppliers are busy. I'd say we're at a high point in the market right now.

Edit: On the other hand, prices are low for newbie-items.

Grain Seeds. Invest in them. Stacks normally go for 50k on my server, now they're down to half that. They take a while to sell, but that's fine, right?
