LS chat is totally different than some stranger either hitting on you or, even worse, describing vulgar parts/acts.

My LS is pretty tight, and we all know each other either in RL or in other internet venues. We all know who we are talking to. There are some conversations that can become a bit risque, like humorous innuendo or having a bit of fun with the auto-translator, but it's all in good fun between people that are comfortable with each other.

It all comes down to respect. Whether it is someone who only sees a character as a sexual being, someone who goes into detail about "what they want to do to you," or someone who thinks it's funny to see someone else in peril. Some just don't undertstand the concept of mutual respect.

And, unfortunately for them, what goes around comes around.

In my old ls, which, when I came back after moving was (sadly) no more, we always had a lot of fun, but we all knew it wasn't anything serious. Right now, my husband and I have an LS that's just the two of us, basically because we got tired of typing /tell Name in game. We'd talk across the room, but our computers aren't in the same room atm. We plan on fixing that eventually ... but ... anyway...

I like to do one emote when I'm in public, but I've never gotten any negative reactions from it. It goes like:

Aksannyi examines your butt.
Aksannyi is not impressed.
/no motion

Now, I don't know if that would really offend anyone, but I use it when I'm in a party and we have some downtime, and usually I get laughs out of it. If anyone ever told me it bothered them, I'd stop.

Another funny (but kind of offensive) auto-translate:
{Silence} {woman}. {Raise} {Cooking} {skill} or receive a {Backhand Blow}!

If I use that, I always let people know that I'm kidding, and I'd never use it around uptight people, which there tend to be a lot these days. A lot of times, I find myself saying, "Well, I'm a woman and I found it to be hilarious," when someone tells me that's sexist. Of course, I'm one of those people who is very difficult to offend.

I had no problems with my LS, KnightsBrotherhood. I actually joined up on the 2nd weekend I've played the game. They're really great fellows, we don't get into immature chat or racist stuff. Not to mention I've played and run into some of their members, even when I didn't expect them to be there at all.

And a lot of us played football in high school, so most of the time you'll see, /em whips <t> with a towel. Our sexual conversations are usually very mild. If we want to get into detail, many of us have the common sense to take it in /tell. The mis-tells are hilarious though. Actually, a friend of mine and I will brag to eachother in /tell about our sexual conquests from time to time. It's a dude thing. >.>

Um, double-u, tee, eff? Sexual conquests? What the hell is that? I think more people need to learn what the word monogamy means.

Anyways! I primarily play female characters and it's insane how many crude comments are made in a single day. I usually respond to such comments like this.

I just started playing only last week and so far my Tarutaru character gets hit on more then my Hume or Mithra. -_-;;

As for my LS, its pretty awesome. Its social and they still do missions. I'm too low leveled to join but I'm usually leveling up when they go on missions. We joke around once in a while and we also make inuendos towards eachother. It has its share of major and minor drama which just means that everyone knows eachother and is used to them. My boyfriend is the leader and he's pretty fair with everyone.

All in all, I've not been hit on too terribly much. Most of it is innocent kidding from old LS friends who are just messing, and it's almost never even mildly risque. One of them actually has a cute lil crush on me and is willing to beat down anyone who *does* offend me.

Sadly, there is one member of my linkshell who bothers me very much, though I've yet to really bring it up with the leader, because I'm sure he'll say that this particular member is 'only kidding.' Even though I'm a sackholder and all.. I'm not willing to start overt trouble. And its only from time to time that he sets his vulgarity on me, so I try to just ignore it and let it slide. However, a few days ago, his mule ran past me in Jeuno and suddenly I see

Please bring this up with your LS leader. You've got to set some boundaries. Make it clear that his comments are unwanted and unwarranted. It doesn't matter if the LS leader thinks it is "just kidding". He's not you. It's only "kidding" if the recipient doesn't mind, otherwise it's harassment.

Ask your friends to also speak up, to back you up. As a sackholder you have partial responsibility for the membership of the LS. If this jerk doesn't shape up, he should be shipped out. (And he very well could be 12 and just claiming to be older.)

Why do people blame teenagers right off the bat. Im 15, I tend to be nice and I've been told I sound like I am... well various ages. Half probably almost all of my FL is teenagers. All of which are cool, good at what they do and are nice. Meanwhile most of the people who are pricks are probably adults and feel that they can do what they want. Sorry bro, but go play Xbox live. Who do you hear being racist? The kid that sounds like he's 13. Who is the one shouting boobies on it? The kid who's 13. The reason that many teenagers act out this way is because at that age, they're going through puberty. We're not grouping you into a cluster because we're calling you stupid, but you're going through huge changes that make you act out in ways you would never do if you weren't experiencing these changes. At that age there's a lot of sexual curiosity. That's why you always hear jokes about 13 year olds stealing their dad's porno mags. It's true, that's why it's so funny. Many teenagers are going through a changed and are giving into certain urges, and actually experimenting at an earlier age.

Also, I bet you 9/10 times, when you see somebody shout "BOOBIES!!!!" in Lower Jeuno, it's a young teenager. The reason many people stereotype this group is because they've seen this many times during their lives, and it tends to be true, for children your age. Now, while I'm sure you're a nice, respectable young man; you're also a teenage boy. There are some things that you probably do, that aren't your fault.

Sorry but I've had some age racism in my time playing. There is truth to that fact but, I don't ever see it happen on bismarck. Honestly I feel like people ar emaking it up since I've never seen it first hand. Honestly this isn't some halo game. Normally any racism age wise toward me is taken out because of friends or how I do my job. Im probably just alittle stressed from school at the moment.
