  • Am I wierd?

Ok I leveled up Cooking to about 60, and I think Bone is some where in the 40s... I had the intention of using these skills to make some gil...

However I find myself SO lazy, that I will buy something pre-made on the AH that I could have made myself. The only exception is I will make my own Juices when leveling in Kaz. Some times I will mess around and make a few stacks of things, but I will go out of my way to avoid recipies that use more than 3 ingrediants or non-stackable ingrediants. To the point where when I go to skill up I'd rather fail 99/100 times than get a 50/50 result on non-stackables.

Any one else like me? Or am I just screwy?

Nah. It also helps save space.

If you ever start feeling REALLY lazy, just tell yourself that you "didn't want to risk failing"

I got my cooking mule to 60, and then didn't cook anything for about three months, unless I happened to get most of the ingredients as drops. I just flat-out avoid non-stackable results. I think the only exception out of the entire time were drinks, because the ingredients are so cheap. I'm more stingy than lazy, but only just.

I do the same thing sometimes. It all depends on how difficult it is to obtain the ingredients. I also like to look at how much I'd actually be saving by making it myself. If I don't save much, I say screw it and buy it.

Other than that, it's pure laziness. "Oh, the crystals I need are on a mule. I'll just buy it."

            Re: Am I wierd?

Main reason I don't cook much for myself having 60 cooking is I can't stand all the recipes that require 50 million ingredients. I pretty much only use my cooking to make myself juices on the fly and the occasional low level food/jug. Eventually I'd like to get my mule to 100 (at 44) just to make myself my own jug pets, but at 60 it's not even worth trying to make Courier Carries or any other HQ jug that useable at level 70.

Marron Glace is a good profit, fast selling, non stackable product that uses a non stackable ingredient. It's many levels above the OP's level, but there are times where non stackables are good.

                Re: Am I wierd?

The only thing that's gotten me back into cooking is making my own Carbonara. It's "fun" because it takes eight ingredients to make. One of those ingredients is Spaghetti, which uses non-stackable flour, and which no one sells. Another of those ingredients is stone cheese, which no one sells (and by the time you can make Carbonara, you can HQ stone cheese into rock cheese, which is nearly completely useless and doesn't sell). Yet another of those ingredients is Buffalo Jerky, which no one sells because it would be a loss. One stack of buffalo meat makes two stacks of jerky, which make two stacks of Carbonara each.

So I'm getting back into cooking because of a recipe that has basically everything I hate about cooking all rolled up into one. Unstackable ingredients, ingredients bought all over the place and sent from mule to mule, multiple stacks to get multiple stacks, HQing ingredients that I can't just buy from somewhere... Yay!

                    Re: Am I wierd?

I have cooking to 65, and I still buy my food and drinks, even though Marron Glace and Pumpkin Pies are the only foods I use that I can't make myself.

I am too stingy to buy from AH, so I have to mule everything. Tracking down all the current regional vendors, switching out my inventory to make room, blah, blah, blah.

                    It's all such a hassle!

The only time I cook anymore is when I have time (and room) to really roll up my sleeves and get busy with it. I don't usually make just a dab of anything.

                      Re: Am I wierd?

You're not the only one, i've got 73 cooking, 52 Alchemy, 50 Woodworking and several other skills leveled and I hardly ever make anything for my own use.

Though, last night I did realize I could make potions in the field while I was leveling my ninja, helps with the downtime. Had one of them come out as a +2, blew my mind since i'm only 12 above cap on them.

I will even go out of my way and turn in some GP items to get a signing crystal to make my own signed Dhamel Mantle if I need it... Yeah, I am bad. I try to plan way ahead and make a couple of stacks of the food I will need. I can make every kind of food except some of those new key item pastries or spagetti (working on it) with a cooking 96 mule.

I do it all the time...

Though today I need a stun kukri, so went to the AH, none there, there was one cermet kukri at 150k on the last sales.

                          Materials were 40k.

                          That made that decision easy
