  • Fun in TAOU- what to do?

So, after I fail to get the claim on mysticmaker again for the umpteemph time in about 20 min or so, I've decided to spend the night in the expansion areas. I got a party invite for apparently really good xp at one of the staging points earlier when I was goofing around in Jeuno, and I had no idea how to get there so they weren't interested.

My question is, for those that are experienced in the new areas, what should I do? I'm planning on trying to get all the staging points in case a pt like that pops up again. But what else should I do? I'm not interested in the new jobs (at least until I get rdm to 75), so what else is there to do? I'm hoping a besiged happens but I think that's dependent on chance. Do you think I could participate in an assault or am I too low (69) for that?

I checked out the new areas once but just looked around and didn't get into it.

So, what do you recommend me doing? Any cool quests to try out?

    Thanks!

if you wish to defend the new areas from invasions called besieged, your best bet an smartest option is to do it mon-thurs, otherwise you will be in the worlds worst lag fest. im taking 900+ players, an 900+ mobs. atleast during the week days the players base drops, an frees up the lag,

Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.

Though you cant chose when to do besieged, you can tell when it will happen. If your server hasn't lost the Asteral Candesence yet, look at the Besieged Conquest Map and look at the power of the beastmen. They should attack at 150%.

Assault you can do at level 50, though it is easier to find parties for the 60 and 75 cap ones.(also 70 and 50 cap)

You'll need to do some exploring of FFXI-atlas to find the staging points, but you NEED to get them as well as 200 IS for the pass. EXP in the new areas is WILD - 8k-21k an hour(varies on level mostly 15k-21k for 73-75, ~8-9k for 65-71)

Phragz, you hijacked my thread! Although I guess it's ok because you're avatar is the same picture my Aunt has in her bathroom that always makes me laugh (although it's not as funny without the caption "Sitting duck")

Well, I checked out the new area and meant to do a staging point but ended up mining. Next on my list is get all the staging points, and then figure out how to get that xp bonus going and throw in a few besiged and assaults and I'll be happy.

Re: Fun in TAOU- what to do?

First thing i did when i had the chance to explore was...

1st: Make sure i can sneak and invis myself.
2nd: Exit from any of the zones in alzabi.
3rd: Explore. To the full extent of the meaning, run around finding paths leading to nowhere (or somewhere) zone into unknown areas, avoid monsters and conflict, explore and locate areas and look first-person-mode-peek-a-boo.

With this, by myself and with others i:

                1. Found out little almost spotless fleas can be deadly in a pinch; found out flying monkeys have true sight; found new species of monsters; tropical birds; spiders that blend in the scene; mamoths of great proportions; discusting looking ponds where blobs of flesh inhabit; bugs and monsters sleeping in the night; groups of monsters that link if provoked (making them pratically impossible to defeat without a group of players); potential camps for levels above 60; friendly (unless provoked) curious looking ant-eater-rat-like creatures roaming damp dark caves; a beastman stronghold under the watch of a murderous intimidating 3-headed giant canine; a well designed headquarters of yet another beastman race that resembles a huge tree-house with many passages and bridges, down under... lies a pit of doom, where even the strongest player would not live through if passing by without stealthy action, deeper inside deadly mazes crawling with creatures that will not tolerate the intrusion; a breathtaking ship graveyard where many a vessel finished their journey on, captains were surely drawn there by the cantics of the deceiving lamian creatures, who undoubtedly turned whole crews into mindless undead creatures who will obey only to their evil mistressses; cute yet deadly penguin-like creatures who hold a grudge on you if you engage and attack their friends, if youre planning on fighting these creatures, best idea would be to bring something to apeal their rage towards you, try bringing something they like to eat.

Thats what i found out with many hours of exploration, in groups and in solo ^^

Re: Fun in TAOU- what to do?

oops, sorry Hamlet Just thought this would be a good place to get answers and maybe help you with the answers to my questions...no hard feelings i hope

Anyway, i just experienced besieged for the first time (I thought i had to be level 50 to participate but i was wrong) and i have to say it was pretty dissapointing.

As far as i could tell, it was just a bunch of guys wailing on some uber mobs for minimal damage in a LAAAGGY zone. Maybe there was some strategy i missed out on but...it didnt look like much fun once i got past the novelty of mobs in a city :D
There didnt even appear to be any danger because i was killed once but i was able to HP and stay in the besieged with no exp loss.

Anyway, if anyone knows about this and sees what im missing, please say something because otherwise ill probobly never try it again.

I'm doing it again >.< sorry ham

Re: Fun in TAOU- what to do?

Don't sweat it, I was only kidding. I also just did my first besieged tonight. It is exactly as you described it, except I like it lol. I don't know, it's different and since there's nothing to lose of any great importance personally, it's just whacky fun. People dying all over the place. I just wish I could figure out how to do more damage with magic, it seemed the melees were the only ones doing any decent damage.

Nontheless, I got the max xp (700) for all the times I did it except for the last when I d/ced and only got 80. Hey, some xp, some whackiness, some imprerial standing? What's not to like?

Thats true, i guess i just built it up in my head to more than it actually was and was dissapointed.
Also i didnt realize i got imperial standing from them . Now i can get my pup upgrade all right!
