*note to the mods* Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I know that there are specific threads for these questions. I just thought it would be less time consuming to post it all in one thread. If you move it, no worries.

Well instead of buying the game on the 21st, Im getting it this Thursday (11th), and I just have a few questions. I am looking for a good LS, doesnt matter what server. One with a range of lower levels and higher levels, or just higher levels. I just dont want to get stuck with newbs, or even worse, n00bs. I played a little after the NA release and a little after the CoP release, so I do know the basics (I hope) And a WP to go with the LS, I wont have much to offer when I first start in terms of game content. As soon as I can I will be glad to help anyone in need. ATM I will be playing quite often, but I will be getting a part-time job in a month or so. But will still make time for the LS and all that great FFXI content. I look forward to this great adventure, and wish good luck to all of you!

Edit: Lmao, I forgot my other questions.... I want to purchase a guide, I had the Brady one before. I hear its kinda meh... So is there another? Also, whoever decides to be so kind as to offer me an LS/WP, could you check the name "Chimera" and see if its available. Thanks again to anyone with any positive posts

To my knowledge, the only printed guide is the Brady guide, and as Balfree said the resources you'll find online are far superior. The above two sites are what I used most frequently, along with ffxi-atlas.com

      But it's just ffxi.somepage.com not www.ffxi.somepage.com

I think as far as player distribution, you'll find most servers to be pretty much the same. If not, you'll have a hard time discovering the difference. It's hard to know how many newbie players vs veteran players there are on your own server; to compare that infomation to another server you're not on is nigh impossible.

I'd invite you to Lakshmi and help you myself, but I'm not on a whole lot anymore and might not always be around. I'll say this about my server though, I run into a lot more nice, helpful people than rude ones. That used to be much more true in the good old days, but I still like Lakshmi. As far as checking the name, I don't know how to do that other than to buy a new content ID and try creating the character, and I don't have a buck to spare on that this month.

No worries about the thread. You're in the right place.

Well, there is also the Atlas book that was released. It's just a compilation of maps around Vana'Diel, and some lil info on each one, mobs, and ups and downs on camping there for xp. Not terribly bad but, it's there.

I bought the map book hoping for some good arts inside was quite disappointing honestly. The map quality aren't even that good.

on a side note. If you want good book for collecting, get the Vanadiel world concept ^^b

            >.< guess I didnt make the low level, high level clear. I meant for a decent mix of levels in an LS, sorry for the confusion. As far as the guide, I was hoping for something to look at as I played. I would use windower if it was cool with the TOS, sadly it isnt. But I will deffently use those online "guides" though, thanks^^

Edit: I see the fault in this but could you /sea all Chimera.<----Taskmage

I got the 1st edition Strategy guide when FFXI launched in NA. Even back at U.S. launch the guide had a lot of outdated material. But its great bathroom book

                  FFXI Wiki - Everything

Koolaid Linkshell - Good NPC info

Sometimes I find good stuff over at Killing Ifrit, too.

If you'd like some printable goodness, here are some crafting recipe PDFs. They're updated fairly regularly as far as I know, though obviously not as up-to-date as some of the online databases.

There is no rush. If you're not willing to take your time, don't be surprised when no one wants to give you much of theirs.

QFT. Having the Brady guide as an offline reference isn't a bad idea, but honestly the information in it is largely inaccurate, incomplete, and outdated. If you were going to spend 30 bucks on the guide and atlas, I think you'd be better off spending that money on a cheap printer and making hard copies of the resources above that are relevant to you.

/sea all Chimera might work, but only if that person is online at the same time as me.

fyi, quick way to see if a name is taken on a certain world is to try and send 1 gil to the name through the delivery person. if it is not taken, it should bounce you right back to the name field and no gil will be deposited.

                          Thanks Yyg!

I bought the original Brady Guide for 52 cents.

                            Canadian.

And I still feel ripped off.
