Re: No more WHM's in the dunes?

Nice responses everyone. I've leveled WHM to 41 on my Taru and to 19 on my mithra and hume.. I don't mind the job of healing, as long as I've got the MP to do so.

Re: No more WHM's in the dunes?

That's one of the major reasons I quit my first time around (6 months ago)

I finally get to the Dunes at Lvl 19-21 and there are no white mages, thus the ensuing parties suck. I really want to be a warrior/ninja/dark knight...etc. and not a mage, but seeing as the shortage made me quit, maybe it's best to just take my lumps and be a WHM. At least then, I can level past 20.....

        Not harsh at all.

Want the ability to have Raise when you get KO'd? Invite a mage who can cast Raise.

No mages around who can do that? Set your homepoint nearby, or use a Reraise item.

Too impatient to wait for a WHM who can cast Raise II or III for your level 56+ party? Take the Raise I instead of making the other 5 party members wait (and not gain XP).

Seriously folks, at the speed you can earn XP these days (really good parties can generate 6-10K per hour), taking a Raise I is not the end of the world at any level, even 75.

The majority of players do not want to play white mage or any support job (RDM, BRD, WHM, SMN... and I suspect COR will also fall into this category soon once people realize it plays more like Bard than Ranger, though much more active and interesting in its own way).

I find it amusing that the people who complain most bitterly about there "not being enough mages" are the same ones who refuse to play mage jobs.

I'm a white mage and I was just in the dunes, you must have just missed me. I Started as a black mage but that did'nt go well, so I changed to a white mage. I like it a lot even though I'm not very good at it yet.

i am in dunes now, and from what i've experienced, WHM/no sub parties with no mages = death.
the only exp im getting now is from PL or parties with 3 mages, 3 melee all with subjob.

Re: No more WHM's in the dunes?

I play 65 whm on Asura, and I have no trouble finding parties at that level. I chose WHM as 2nd job after seeing that Monk was taking hrs to find a pt. I love WHM, but after reading this thread, I feel like I am gonna be useless at 70+. I am planning to level SMN, since it goes well with whm. I'm still gonna level monk too, I will just deal with the LFP thats with any melee job.

Re: No more WHM's in the dunes?

I've recently noticed in a lot of the pties im joining various lvls that either I, red mage, or smn, are playing the role of main healer, very few times have i been in one with a whm as the main healer. When there is a whm it seems like its just someone lvling it for a subjob and not doing as well of a job as they should putting a lot of preasure on the /whm to cover his or her slack. But then i assume like others once this new job rush passes you'll start seeing everyone go back to the other jobs. =))

Re: No more WHM's in the dunes?

There are not many people who can get in the right mind-set to play WHM effectively. WHM is by far the most passive-reactive job in the game. We rarely do anything offensively, and there isn't much we can do except prepare our party defenses, conserve our MP and wait for our party members to take damage.

This mentality is alien to most players; the tendency is to want to take direct action and see yourself making an immediate impact - which is partly why direct damage jobs are so popular despite the trouble they have with competition for party slots.

I don't have to pay attention to the mob buffing itself or enfeebles sticking. Only thing I really have to pay attention to is HP bars, my MP, and buffs. All of these are displayed on my screen (with the exception of Haste), so I don't have to scan the chat log much.

Is so laid back compared to my first job, Red Mage, in which I would have to pay attention to party's HP and MP, Buffs wearing off (Refresh/Haste mostly), Enfeebles sticking/wearing off, and the skillchain for Magic Bursting.
Huh? How can you not pay close attention to the chat log as WHM?

Do you not care if a pt member gets paralyzed, silenced or petrified (to name a few)?

Or do you simply wait for the pt member to tell you that they have a particular status ailment? (an unacceptable option for me)

I am a 75 WHM and i love the job. However, I do think to be really excellent at it, you have to pay close attention to the chat log.

That attitude doesn't end with just getting tele's.
So true..on Fairy this morning there were several players repeating shouts for Teleports 12 times a minute and one did say that the WHM's are too lazy to Teleport....so I shouted "fng walk"

For years there has always been a shortage of WHM's in the Dunes..usually the party ends up with a RDM who they think can keep up with cures.

Re: No more WHM's in the dunes?

You wouldn't believe the kind of trouble my 29 whm has been giving me.

Wonder why I'm gimped? Here's why.

Everytime I look for a party with my whm, I'll end up seeking for 2 hours at a time. I've been having the crappiest luck seeking, as well as finding just one tank to get a party started!!!

It just seems to me that in the wake of these new jobs, it's more and more difficult to find a party with my damn whm. I'll be surprised if I can get it to 30 within the next week.

Re: No more WHM's in the dunes?

It's just rotten luck. I go lfp on my WHM or BRD, and there's at least 2 or 3 other people in my level range lfp on the same job/sub-job combo (I remember one day being one of 6 lfp WHMs around Valkrum level 16-18, all with subs). Then I decide to level, say, WAR or NIN, and there's no healers available for love nor money. Whatever you need to finish off a party, you can pretty much bet they won't be available ^^

edit - and yes, it does make me feel gimp sometimes. I just console myself with the fact that no one's complained about my performance yet.

Well, the last time I went through the Dunes (As MNK and then BRD, about 3 months ago) there always seemed to be at least 1 WHM seeking. As was mentioned before it can only be worse now with the influx of new jobs and new 360 players.

With WHM as my main, I have only ever had one real glut of getting very few invites (from 30-34) but since then I have to stay /anon to avoid invites.

In my experience it has always been the case of whatever you need to fill out the PT.
