My first FFXI "run in"

I got FFXI on Friday...For the 360...

After a few long, tedious hours of downloading and updating...
I was FINALLY able to play.

Being fairly new...And this being my 1 month trial...
I decided to go with being a Hume Warrior...
A male, I might add...as this pertains to the story I'm about to tell...

San d'Oria was the City I chose as my home...
And, after roaming around the city for a little while...
I decided to go out and start fighting...

Someone came along...Seeing the "?" above my head...
And, he told my how to rid of the New Adventurer Status...

We talked for a little while...About different aspects of the game...
Basically, stuff that I felt I needed to know...Being a newcomer, and all...

Now. When I talk...
I use alot of emoticons...Not the FFXI emotes, though...
Things like "xD" and ">.<" and "o.0"...
I dunno why...It just helps the person you're talking to to understand your tone of voice...Being as it is fairly difficult to tell how exactly words are spoken(or in this case...typed).

He handed me one of those communication crystal-thingies(sorry...don't remember the name of them >.<)...And told me that if I needed help...to use it.

So...He ran off...and quite quickly...
I came to find out that the crystal he gave me didn't work...
And, someone ELSE(I'm assuming one of his friends) told me that the reason it didn't work was because he made it not work for me.

The 2nd person told me that the guy who gave me the crystal...

Thought I was a girl...So he ran off.

My sentiments "What a deusche."

Anyway...I find this hilarious...
My first time getting onto FFXI...
And I was almost E-Raped...without even knowing it!

E-Raped? o.o Because he gave you a linkpearl and some advice?

Are you absolutely certain you were using it correctly? Was it "Broken", or were you just trying to equip it wrong? A new pearl can't be broken unless you have it equipped (unless he gave you an already broken pearl, I can't remember if you can do that), so maybe the person that told you that was mistaken.

I've never had any trouble with that on a male character, but I remember on my mithra that occasionally someone would just randomly /tell me and try to chat me up. I set them straight pretty quickly, but it was still creepy/annoying.

You don't equip it under the Equipment menu you do it under the Linkshell menu, just in case you were doing it wrong. BTW What server are you on?

To use one of those "crystals" also known as a link pearl; open your main menu, go to linkshell, and you should see it listed there. Clcik on it, and choose equip.

Yeah, just ignore them. I mean, I've had some seriously creepy /tells from time to time, but for the most part, people realize that folks make a mithra for the stats, so it could be a guy or a girl behind the character. Also, randomly asking someone in game to cyber is pretty juvenile and creepy.

Although...

One time I didn't correct someone right away so that he would PL me through a rather difficult level on my SAM. But after I dinged, I just /blisted him and logged.

edit: I'd like to point out that I /blisted him because he was being creepy/predatory, not because I don't appreciate a random PL.

Just keep in mind, a lot of people playing this game are probably testosterone driven teen boys. Anyway, the worst I've seen, is a guy sending pictures of his package...naked...to girls' email addys in the LS.

Good plan, but don't be surprised if these self-same idiots who were trying to get it on with some random person online then starts calling you names for playing a female character. They aren't the smartest lot, really.

I just used the phrase "E-Rape" just to emphasize the creepiness of the situation...
And because the only reason he was helping is because he thought I was a girl...

I admit...Using a bunch of text emotes makes people think like that...
But, I'd rather someone ask me if I'm male or female...
Rather than hitting on me...

The person who told me the guy ran off because he thought I was a guy told me how to use it correctly.

It's easy to ignore them, but they can always be added to your blacklist, which will make it so you cant see text they write, /emotes or other things by typing /blacklist add Playername (this is correct right? i never have to use my blacklist lol), you can remove them by typing /blacklist then selecting their name and removing them from the menu that pops up.
