Re: So someone misbid on my leaping boots for 10mil

It's true that they are not obligated to return anything, however, if the roles were switched I'm sure you'd like to have your gil back and you'd think the other guy is a jerk for taking advantage of your (admittedly stupid) mistake.
I have had this role reversed on me twice, I've never expected my money back although I asked both people, one returned the money and that was nice but the other person did not and I never though him/her a jerk, the fault lies with the overbidder alone.

I wouldnt hold it against you if you kept it. I have been on both sides of it and whatever gets bid is pretty much final. Just remember... they had 10 million gil, chances are they had way more than that.

you can make 8mil in 1-3 days without screwing someone over who got a lag at bidding ....
i will always return money to ppl if they highly overbid because i would like ppl to do the same to me.
How? Please enlighten me, because I couldn't get 8 mil nearly that fast. I just got a mil from ks30 and it's the most I've seen for awhile.

I would like to hear this miracle moneymaking plan as well. ^^ Does it involve farming up 10 kindred seals a day and lucking out on a vclaw drop?

I've had over bids on M Creek Mitts (over bid by 5 million) and on a pair of Shell Earings+1 (over bid by 2 million). Both times I gave them back the money (less the going AH price of the item), I had the one person give me a 500k reward.

I mainly gave them the money back cause I felt bad for them, and I knew that if it happened to be I would have been pissed.

But its up to you. You don't always have to play nice.

You can rip someone off in a game, log out and forget about it, never facing your actions or feel responsible for the grief you caused someone. Anyhoot! Personally, I'd return the gil, even if it was a complete asshat that overbid and I had him blisted.
              Somewhat off-topic:

While true of FFXI, this isn't always true in the internet at large. I had a hand in one case a few years ago where I helped trace a troublemaker down, found out that he was misusing certain computer systems against the law, and was eventually investigated and reprimanded (perhaps more, but the Powers That Be in this case don't talk about their disciplinary actions - I personally suspect this person lost their job over the incident, and rightly so if it happened).

I respect those who earn their gil as it takes time and isn't the fun part of the game (except for BCNM and KSNM).

When I've over bid, I hope the person will offer to return the gil. I don't ask for it, but hope (s)he will contact me or mail it to me.

While you have every right to keep the gil. Think how hard it is to earn and ask yourself would you want someone to keep your gil, if you made a bidding mistake?

Honestly when someone obviously over bid, I look up the name and return part of the gil.

When doing teleports, I don't charge but accept donations as the person feel it is worth. Sometimes it ends up being free. Other time I'll give the gil (or part of the gil) back when I suspect the person really doesn't have a lot of gil.

I view Vana'diel as a world where we each of our own abilities and should help each other out. I'm not saying do stuff for free but we should do it based upon the situation and if that means for free, then it is FREE.

That email thing is a feature of POL Plus, which you have to buy a Content ID for, and it has an extra monthly fee. I don't know anyone that actually uses it. They just change their XXXX@pol.com email address to something easy to remember, which is free. The only POL+ feature I hear of being used by me or LS members is the email filter, because it's free.
