Aye, I've never gotten gil back from a misbid, and shouldn't expect to. It's not anyone's fault but mine that I messed up.

It's up to you what you do with the gil you got. Honestly I'd probably buy one or two items I'd been looking at saving up for then send the rest of it back(if there was any left!)

It's happened to me before. I searched for the person, sent a /tell, and offered to give it back. It was the right thing to do. He then sent me a /tell asking if I needed help in any quest, so I took him up on that, since none of my "friends" wanted to help.

I'd return it if I were you.

I hate this kind of thing... who determines what is right and what is not? I for one don't believe it is right or wrong to keep the money, or give it back. Where's the rule that says you should or should not? There is none, so it's up to you to decide. There is no right or wrong in this instance.

I never said it was a rule, nor do I tell him he SHOULD, I just said *I* would. It's right as far as common courtesy.

Not trying to be argumentative here or anything, but just how common is common courtesy? Of the few cases of people overbidding on stuff on my server(Bismarck) that I've seen/heard about, no one returned anything.

I understand what you're saying. But honestly if keep the gil, I bet they'll be more careful next time! Sorta doing them a favor!(Ok, yeah... that's a stretch)

Well, yes, but if a person asks for their gil back saying they made a mistake at the AH, and you don't give it back, it will make you look like a complete asshole. Now, this guy will probably tell his friends and LS of your greed, and your name will stick in the back of their minds. That could end up hindering your ability to find parties, or get help for /shout things, like artifact armor. Not only is it "common courtesy" but it's also beneficial to you if you care at all about your reputation.

Also, what determines what is right and wrong is determined by a person's morals, and conscience. In Psychology, there is the Id, the Ego, and the Super Ego. This is the basic definition of a person's "conscience". Your moral values are set by your Ego (Ego not meaning the self-pride bullshit. Ego meaning I in Latin.) The Id is very childish, and selfish. It is only out to provide for itself and get what it needs by any means necessary. Many people can also refer to the Id as "instinct". The Super Ego is the good guy. Always watching out for others. Wanting to make other people happy, and over-all doing the right thing. The Ego is the middle man. It's always being stretched one way or the other, and eventually, it has to make a decision for what's best between the two. This is how your morals are decided. So nobody decides what is right and wrong for you, you decide for yourself. The Id and Super Ego can be, and ARE pursuaded by societal views and opinions, but in the end, it's the Ego (Yourself) that decides what is right and wrong for you.

Well, you see... there are things here that don't quite add up. I do care about my repuatation as a good insertjobhere, but my reputation outside of that... don't really care about. I'm not really a mean person nor am I hard to get along with, but MAN, I'm a greedy mofo, and I don't care who knows it. If that somehow has an effect on my getting parties then people are even more illogical than I thought!

                    And that Psychology part... tl;dr

There's somebody on Ragnarok that has a reputation for being a greedy player. He's been stuck at 68 for a while now, because NOBODY will invite him to a party. And when I say NOBODY, I mean, not one person on the server likes this guy. He's scammed/ripped off a good number of people. He has good gear, but unfortunately, he'll probably never see his Hauberk +1 he has in his bazaar. Being a good <insertjobhere> doesn't mean dick when you've pissed off a lot of people.

                      And yes, I believe I should stop with the Psychology. Nobody on these forums seem to think that it's a real science. ; ;

Well see, I never scammed or ripped anyone off, what I mean by being greedy is if you give me something(not loan) you won't be seeing it again! And by overbidding, you just gave me your gil! I'm not quite as bad as that somebody you spoke of so I don't have those kinda problems. Worst I do is ask people for stuff, even then... I ask once, if they say no, that's it.(I may 'jokingly' suggest they hand it over a few times after that; It's worked before too!)

I do have some moral fiber, I'm not a crook or anything... I just see this as sorta like a bank error, when they screw up they don't expect you to give the money back and you also don't have to(at least I didn't :D)

I'm guessing you don't believe in Karma. :3

I'm a big believer in it. I try to be courteous to everyone I meet, and if somebody screws up, I don't penalize them for it (in cases like this.) And honestly, I haven't had too many bad things happen to me. Actually, everytime I've done a KSNM with a buddy of mine, I've gotten a Venomous Claw. So I do believe in Karma. And trust me, Karma can be a bitch. (Like when people try to MPK parties and end up getting ripped to shreds by the mobs they pulled.)

I'm still young, haven't seen much in my life that leads me to believe anything of the sort. I also don't have much 'faith' in anyone or anything other than myself. That's probably part of the reason I am who and what I am today. Who knows though, something might happen to change the way I feel about things, but as things are currently I just don't see a reason why anyone should feel obligated to give the gil back when another person makes a mistake.

if you dont want to pay the money back why do even make a post about it ?

if you are a greedy bitch (as it looks like atm) go with the money. if you are cool and proud of your own accomplishments then you give it back and maybe can add a new friend to your f-list that might help you with your o-hat ( insert any quest or fight you need ppl for)
