Well, if I were you, I would return the extra gil to the person, and I have in the past when people have misbid on items. Its easy to go to buy it, and get a lag spike and accidentally overbid if you aren't careful, which is why I always spend extra time making sure I bid correctly. However, it is not against the ToS to keep the gil as it technically is the other person's fault. So, if you keep it, no one can take in-game legal action for it.Calin - Ragnarok -

Whats the going price right now?
Any way I would try to contact the person that bought them, see if they want some of their money back? I'd add about 10% to what you should keep over the avg. price on the AH.
Or you could be a pecker-wood and just ignore their tells when they figure out what they did.

Personaly I'd figure out who over bid, but I would wait for them to send me a tell. If they want the nine or eight mil back, they'll try to contact you.Comment

I really depends. Usually, I would have returned the extra gil... But I'm running short of gil now, due to mistakes like that, only to have the things I overbid on laugh and taunt me when I ask for just half back >.> So now I think I'd keep it.... seems like it's what the rest of Midgardsormr is doing.

that happen to me getting pies some time for my mage, like 400k for pies that were 20k, the guy never wanted to gave me the money back

tough one that, personally ive only ever had 2mil gil myself so i would find it hard to return that amount of money, if i could see the person was stinking rich making HQ SH or soemthing i prolly wouldnt return the money :S.

Personally I'd wait for him to tell you.
If I were in your shoes and that happened to me, I'd give all the excess back.
But then again, I wouldn't listen to me, I tend to be little generous with my stuff in game (Eg: Giving away an Emperor's Hairpin to a friend who was getting frustrated camping Lizzie).

You're not "stopping to their level" by keeping the money. The money they bid on an item is all yours, it's their fault for being so careless with their money. With the checks the current AH system has, you have to be extremely careless to misbid.
If someone misbids, it's their own fault, you are not obligated or even morally obligated to give them the excess money back. If someone is that careless, this will teach them a much needed lesson. People learn the most via the hard way.★★☆☆Kyo☆☆★★

I'd save it until they tell you or make an effort to mail you (Which is easy, Charactername@server.ffxi.pol.com should always go to your POL mail)
For all you know, someone quit, and wanted to make someone happy.
if they do contact you, give them some of the excess back, going from the highest rate on the AH History. Like, if they're generally 2m, but there was a sale on AH for 4m, send them 6m.
if they're generally 4m, and the highest on AH is 4m, keep 5m or so. It's your own judgement, but you have a right to all of the gil, anything you give back is pure kindness.Comment

I agree with Feba. I've misbid a few times, and I didn't expect any of the gil back. It was my fault for rushing through and not paying attention to what I was bidding on.
So, if I were you, I'd give some of it back, but keep some to myself.Comment
