This site rocks ever since I joined I havent been to any other forums. PING FOR PRESIDENT!
Same. This has been the only site I've ever visited for FFXI stuff since 2002. <___<;;;
Edit: Nevermind. Forgot I was helping Warcry out with WHM stuff back when NA ver. was released. But I still don't like Alla. Especially because one of their ads was stealing WoW account data a little bit ago...naughty naughty.
I, too, moved here after the recent happenings at Alla, and this forum seems to be a lot better - less traffic, it seems, but better quality posts. I'm betting that has something to do with the repuatation system - because the karma system at Alla just encouraged random trolls to rate-down in stealth mode. I'm a member of another forum with a similar format to this one (not FFXI related) so I already kind of know the ins and outs.
I am looking forward to spending some of my downtime and non-play time discussing one of my loves (FFXI) with all of you. ^.^
Now, to open Photoshop so I can make a signature, since it appears I can have an image in my sig! Yay!
If anyone is up for wiki challege.. it's over at: http://wiki.ffxionline.com , other than that, right now, some of the moderators are working to get articles up... it's really hard trying to catch up after 3 years of absence. but we'll try
We need a menu structure on it, so rather than the basic navigation options we have things like:
Missions
Quests
Abilities
Spells
Guild Recipes
Then within those areas we can have sub sections (ie: Windurst under Missions).
Then we can add articles in the right place.
I'll be happy to get working on it if you can do something like that so we have an idea of where to put things
While I understand that this site is more a forum and repository for links, I agree with Djonma in respects to an all-inclusive location for information.
I am still looking around and adjusting to the new environment, so many of the features seen on this site will take a while for me to digest. Notably: the article system.
Ultimately, I think what many (whether posting the sentiment or not) might be pining for one username/password for all their FFXI Knowledge Base needs. As well, one browser window open rather than 3-4 whenever you want to look up specific information.
With all that said, however, FFXIO's forum (and system) is much better than Alla's. The posts are more inciteful, more informative and certainly more civil. If adding some form of all-inclusive atmosphere would take away from that then I would be opposed to its implementation.
well, I share Rolk's sentiments. There is really no need in duplicating the wonderful info FFXIclopedia has already. If we revive the wikki, I think we should take it in a slightly different direction, something like this: http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/brp...ers.bible.html
(a promising project which that slacker BRP has basically neglected).
Well, I don't want to take away from this site. I am a Administrator over at FFXIclopedia (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org)
I used to spend a lot of time at Alla and at the wiki. We recently added http://forums.ffxiclopedia.org to the wiki in an attempt to bypass Alla. With the hopeful death of Alla, I'm happy that FFXIOnline will pick up some slack. I would not want to see the wiki and FFXIOnline compete.
But I would like all those who are looking for database concerns to check out the wiki, add to the wiki and expand the wiki. It is completely player driven, so there are no admins adding the data for you. It can only get better with more player input.
But that said, even with the forums over there, I will now frequent this site like I used to frequent Alla. I hope I am welcomed here as well.
Well the good thing is that FFXIonline was the first site to really speak on ffxi, an dhas a large importer base and then a large NA base joined int, follwed by euro and other region players.
So I dont think we'll be competing per say but I do think we should cooperate and add as much as possible to each other. with two forums and a large informative database on your site it'll help tons.
Oh cool! They quoted me on my Bigmouth Billy exerpt from Allakhazam
If you guys would let me, I'd be happy to run your Notorious monsters section Seeing as how thats all I do in FFXI anymore.... just hunting NMs. Heck, I dont even do it for the money anymore--just because its exciting to hunt them

I don't slack! ;o I just... you know... don't... did... do that... this time. More people need to be interested, anyway.
Mysterytour pretty much supplants Alla for a lot of the information provided, as it's much neater in presentation.
The only thing Mystertour lacks is community interaction for Job Discussions, Quest/Mission discussions and General Discussions, which is something FFXionline can provide.
I previously didn't use sites like KI or Somepage due to their IGE banners, and now won't use Alla for it's association with IGE. But there are still plenty of sites that together offer a lot of info. (I still use Shadow-Dragons for their color coded skill-rank lists) and FFXIonline can act as a brokering point for discussion.

Somepage really isn't at fault for their ads. They use Google ads, and Google picks what to put up there; which in this case is gil selling ads. So, Somepage really isn't at fault...but I do see where you're coming from. =x
Edit: Nevermind. -.-;;; I was thinking of MysteryTour..not Somepage @__@
And I have NEVER seen ads on this site since I've come here. Welcome, I'm glad you guys are willing to fit in. Posts on this forum use proper punctuation, something that is a foreign concept on alla, so get used to it: It's ok to show us that you passed the 5th grade ^.^
Ha, I jest. Regardless, I've never known how to do wiki's, so I've left them alone. I'm sure that a few people can make an honest effort to create comprehensive guides tho.
I, for one, am able to do a RDM guide, and I'm sure of at least 15+ other RDMs on this forum that will assist.
If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?

As hard as it may be, don't take this game or your characters too seriously. I promise you - the guys that really own your account don't.
