okokok let me break this down a bit... i have played one other MMO and thats as you can all guess is WoW. and i had like 5 friends playing befor i went in that i met over forums... helped me alot in beginning then befor i knew it i was 60 and godly! i thought it would be nice to maybe get a few experianced players to give me some helpfull tips how to make friends in this game; or would be willing to be friends in this game with me!? yes? no? just wonderin, lol. and i would if you can server info... like i dont want a hudge server but ya know... low population or a medium population server! i hate lagging and high latncey drives me crazy! . well thx if you can help, thanks anyways if you cant!

also one thing while im on the plz answer my questions topic! do you play one CD then download the other expansions, or do i download them all and just play through? iv read some places both ways and its confuseing the SH*T out of me!!!

im on remora, there's a few of us on here that are from remora also.

well heres the thing about ffxi. try not to apply wow terms and style to this game b/c they wont meet end to end. so here we go with some answers:

most the servers are pretty evenly populated. you cant tell which server has more population than others like with wow. typically speaking a server can have on avg 1800-3000 ppl on it at any given time. more or less depending on popularity. with regards to latency, you have to understand, with any game online and especially an mmo. lag is always going to be there. if you have a decent connection (dsl or cable) you should be fine in most places. no matter what, most people will see a certain extent of lag when traveling through some highly congested places like say lower jeuno for instance or al zhabi whitegate (one of the new expansion cities).

expansions dont need to be installed however, which ever content you are missing you will not be able to do any quests/missions for that expansion nor travel to any of the new areas released in that expansion. of course you can avoid those areas i suppose but i think that would cause you more trouble than its worth. for example: the typical and most easily xp'd area from 25-32 (in terms of mob difficulty, i know all you unique snowflakes out there will find something to nit pick about so stop right there :p) is the area known as elshimo. which comes with the 1st expansion pack. if pts dont go there, they usually goto altepa, which is also in the 1st expansion pack. you'll be missing out on a lot of xp and making thigns hard for you if you dont have the installed.
