    Re: What the hell?

In my experience, the WoW community is in the sewers. I distinctly remember one time that I was trying to get help on a particular quest. After about three hours of getting nothing but "Do it yourself"s and "Don't have time"s, I logged off, and then into FFXI. I asked for help in FFXI for a quest. Took maybe five minutes?

Shortly after, I deactivated WoW, and went back to FFXI.

So, like someone said before, you have to decide between flashy colors and overstimulation, or a decent community and a worthwhile storyline.

YES I CANNOT AGREE MORE!!! once in WoW i was in duskwood, and some random kid was on his alt... he was on my mains guild, i didnt know at the time but still... and he was level 24ish and needed help in a place in world of warcraft called duskwood... and i hate it cauz he really never asked for HELP! he just asked where some skelital mages are in the graveyard... and he got replies like, "stfu noob and do it yourself!" and "f*%king noob i have no time for morons like you!"... so i just stood up for the poor kid and started talking back and saying stuff like "ya know if ya cant help the poor kid with what he asked why cant yall just STFU and play... he didnt ask for all the snooty ass backtalk..." now the thing that i did mention witch thy didnt like i have a horde main and alliance... i told them why horde was better, they did suck on this server but horde is better because they are 100% nicer... i think its too bad that WoW has turned out like this...

my first ever post here on ffxionline, was basic questions about ffxi and the very first thing i liked is someone said you NEED friends in this game to be successful! said their still are some assholes around but not too many. VERY NICE TO KNOW! i like a game where you need team work and not too many asses break you down. thats how i choose a game is the enviroment and the comunity! if a majority of the comunity are asses, im srry this game is fun but not what i want! my ffxi should be in the mail today i orderd it monday! should start ASAP if its here...

I must be weird. I actually enjoyed the early levels of the game.

Lol, nah, just have a better understanding of MMORPGs. The end game has lot of fun activities too but doesn't mean you should trash yourself on the journey. Enjoying the journey and making great times so when your at the end game fighting a mob that could rip you to shreds on a mistake, you can reflect back on the friends you've made and just think of the great times you had on the journey (Heh, just like the FMV intro to this game... Intresting huh?)

It's a rare part of the MMORPGs that lot of players overlook, it's definatly overlooked in WoW. In Everquest it's there a little bit but no were near as strong as FFXI, Lineage II if it was designed better could of been as great as FFXI but it's mostly just a bloodbath game (In the US version of it anyway, the Korean beta had a very close to FFXI-ish feel with the community). Everyone kills eachother in massive PK fights and when the smoke clears no one remembers what they originally were in the area for or what quest they were on.

              Re: What the hell?

I have played many mmorpg's - EQ, Asheron's Call, Earth and Beyond, Horizons (uck) and FFXI.
I found the game definately looked and felt different than all the others. The controls had me wondering if I would like FFXI or not, but as I started playing and getting into the party dynamics of this game - I can't imagine playing any other mmorpg at this time. From the storyline to the job abilites and the party set-up essentials - FFXI is so detailed and is pleasantly complicated and more enthralling than any other game of this genre out there.
Give it time - it grows on you like a forest funguar!
To die by the sword...hurts like hell!

From what I've seen, I can't say FFXI's community is too much better >.> (simply browse KI/BG forums or look at the HNM drama or drama in general), WoW has more people so you come across the random idiot more frequently.. but I would still say that the percentage remains the same between both games. You have people in their 40-60's shout asking a question and the replies are "How did you get to x level w/o knowing that you noob?" Nonetheless, the OP does seem like he would enjoy WoW a lot more than FFXI, but I wouldn't discourage him from trying out FFXI for himself as both MMO's are great in their own ways. To each his/her own.

                  Re: What the hell?

The character creation is lacking sure, but the graphics aren't horrible. You're on the xbox360 and I have no experience with that machine. I play on my PC and the graphics are extremely beautiful. As for weapons, there's teirs of when they're available to upgrade. Such as levels 7, 10, 11, 13, 16, 20, 30, and so on. Armor is similar. As for the 99,999,999 gil for a worthless item, they either don't want to toss it by mistake or they're showing it off because it was signed and it's not really for sale. Stick with the game, get to 20 or so, and try crafting or fishing too. Eitherway, don't cut the game short because you expected too much.

yep, ppl quit cuz they think the rest of the game is going to be like the early lvls, which kinda does get boring after a while. lvl up some game gets alot more fun,
WoW just makes my eyes hurt >< cant sit there lookin at a bowl of lucky charms all day.

                      Re: What the hell?

I really don't get how people can complain about the graphics, especially if you're comparing it to WoW. I've always considered ffxi graphics to be top notch, especially considering that you don't need a super-computer to run it.

I also find it funny that not being able to jump is a big issue for WoW people. I played WoW and great, I could jump. Whopee. I just looked like a total moron jumping around. It's not like you actually use it or anything (this isn't super mario brothers). I remember when I first started years ago I would walk up to a little ledge and think, "What, I can't get up onto that??? It's like 1 foot high!" But really, you get used to it and I much prefer the dignification of everyone walking than everyone hopping around like freaking frogs all the time like in WoW.

There is one instance in Ashenvale where you do have to jump from ledge to ledge to get farther inside. xD

But, yeah. To stay on the topic of graphics. Both WoW and FFXI have great graphics, but the style for both is different. My only grip with FFXI's graphics are with spells and such...when you get too close they look all grainy and weird. :S

I've always loved the FF graphics over WoW... they look more natural to the eyes. Plus most peope I've seen complain about FF graphics haven't tweaked their setting quite right making it look horrible, like having low res on a huge monitor.

FF does take a while to get used to but after you catch on it gets addictive like nothing else

I have multiple level 30 characters on WoW.. and yes, community CAN lack compared to Ffxi. But if you get far into the game, get a nice guild and stuff, things work out. You need to spend time on it. Imagine a new player on FFXI.. I don't think he has a full friends list after few hours of playing? I even notice this when I make a new character.. so boring and no help lol.

On a side note, i'd like to say that comparing FFXI, WoW and other similiar games is not really fair. Every game is different, and has good and bad sides. Some things you just can't compare to eachother. Like, you can't say WoW is too easy compared to Ffxi, and then crack it off with that. It's a different game, different style of MMORPG, and different gameplay. If you really want to know how it's like, you have to play it a bit to see what it's really about, and then you can measure how much you like Ffxi or WoW by looking at how much fun you have playing and exploring the game, after a few hours. In a few hours.. you can just ask for help with a level 6 quest. But, I know most quests you can do alone with a little effort. Also, imagine a new player, level 9 without sub and such, asking for help with Mission 1. Would you, with your level 75 character reply to him and help him? Or would people's second character? Other new players? I'm not sure. You can't say WoW is crap if you haven't gotten anywhere, and same about Ffxi. And still, comparing is very hard to do. You can't compare Pokemon and Dragonball, and say Pikachu is stronger than Goku.

I have never bothered with WoW at first, had a lot of prejudges and such about it, untill my friend started playing it, and let me play on a Guest Account. I got hooked! I still prefer Ffxi though, in the long run. In my opinion, WoW is also a very good game, just in a different way. What i'm trying to say with all this is, you got to play an MMORPG for yourself for a while, to see if you like it. Then you can say what you like more.
